Breve Historia / Brief History

En 1969 un grupo de inversionistas norteamericanos compraron unos terrenos en la zona de tierra salvaje a la que sólo se podía acceder por mar o aire con un gran potencial turístico por su belleza. Los norteamericanos planeaban talar el bosque para exportar madera, pensando después en exportar arena blanda a Puerto Rico para usarla en la construcción. Frank Rainieri, considerado como el Padre del Turismo en República Dominicana, los convenció para comprar un tractor y abrir un camino para poder llegar al lugar via tierra y así lo hicieron, así también construyeron una pequeña pista de tierra para poder aterrizar en avioneta. Ya 1970, Rainieri cambió el nombre original del lugar, Yauya o Punta Borrachos, al no ser un nombre atractivo para fines turísticos y comerciales, por Punta Cana, uno mucho más llamativo. En 1978 el Club Mediterraneé París se unió al proyecto del Grupo Puntacana S.A., al construir dentro del mismo, un hotel de 350 habitaciones.

In 1969 a group of American investors bought some land in an area of wild land that could only be accessed by sea or air with a great tourist potential because of its natural beauty. The Americans planned to cut down the forest to export wood, later thinking of exporting soft sand to Puerto Rico to use in construction. Frank Rainieri, considered the Father of Tourism in the Dominican Republic, convinced them to buy a tractor and open a road to access by land and doing just that, so they also built a small dirt track to land by plane. By 1970, Rainieri changed the original name of the place, Yauya or Punta Borrachos, not being an attractive name for tourist and commercial purposes, for Punta Cana, a much more striking one. In 1978 the Club Mediterraneé Paris joined the project of Grupo Puntacana S.A., by building within it, a hotel with 350 rooms.

Inicia al norte con la Playa de Arena Gorda, siguiendo después con las famosas playas de Bávaro, Uvero Alto, Macao y El Cortecito. Cuando se inicia la vuelta de la punta se encuentran las playas de Cabeza de Toro, Cabo Engaño, Punta Cana y Juanillo. El litoral de la zona de Punta Cana se extiende 50 kilómetros, considerado como Tesoro Nacional por el gobierno dominicano y por la UNESCO como de las mejores playas del mundo, por la riqueza de su flora y fauna, y por las bellezas naturales que allí se aprecian. Posee el aeropuerto internacional de llegadas aéreas más importante del país, ya que llegan alrededor del 68% de los turistas internacionales que nos visitan. Punta Cana posee una inalcanzable vida nocturna, lujosos hoteles, desarrollos inmobiliarios, comunidades residenciales privadas, centros comerciales, gift shops, campos de golf de clase mundial, actividades deportivas, exquisita y variada oferta gastronómica, así como espacios de entretenimiento cultural

It begins in the north at Arena Gorda Beach, followed by the famous beaches of Bavaro, Uvero Alto, Macao and El Cortecito. Further out you will find the beaches of Cabeza de Toro, Cabo Engaño, Punta Cana and Juanillo. The coastline of Punta Cana extends 50 kilometers. The most extensive part of the beach is Bavaro, considered a national treasure by the dominican government and “the best in the world” by UNESCO, due to its rich flora and fauna, and for its natural beauty. It posses on of the most important points of arrival in the country, the Punta Cana International Airport where 68% of all tourist who come visit the Dominican Republic arrive thru. Punta Cana has a vast nightlife, luxurious hotels, real estate development, private residences, malls, gift shops, world class golf courses, sport activities, exquisite and varied gastronomic offer, as well as cultural entertainment.
