Star of Bethlehem 28 November - 25 January

Throughout December and January Ely Cathedral invite you to come and experience an eye catching light display inspired by the Star of Bethlehem. The actual design is made up of a transparent screen which projects an abstract image and using latest technology and laser beams, creates the impression of a magnificent Star hovering above the Nave of the Cathedral. Visitors will be able to engage with the installation by controlling the shape and colour of the Star via an iPad at ground level. The modern day work of art was created by artist Jayson Haebich and will be in situ at Ely Cathedral from 28 November for eight weeks. This is only the second time this unique installation has been on public display in the UK. (This installation was kindly sponsored by The Friends of Ely Cathedral)

Ely Cathedral Gift Shops

Our festive themed gift shops are brimming with seasonal merchandise including cards, wrapping paper, decorations and baubles. Both our shops, located inside the Cathedral and on the High Street, provide a unique Christmas shopping experience offering an exceptional selection of jewellery, books, accessories and homeware.

The Refectory Café is located inside the Cathedral and is an idea place for lunch and light refreshments including home-made scones and mince pies. This cosy, friendly café is a perfect ‘pit stop’ after a busy day shopping with an opportunity to admire the Cathedral’s magnificent 30ft high Christmas tree.

The Almonry Restaurant

In an enviable position overlooking the Cathedral, The Almonry boasts a13th century vaulted undercroft where you can enjoy locally sourced, home cooked food throughout the festive season. A popular place to meet for lunch or afternoon tea, The Almonry is also open every Friday and Saturday night for evening dining and can be booked as a private hire venue for your Christmas celebrations.
