Patricia Field

Patricia Field born on February 12, 1941 (age 73) in Manhattan, New York. Since opening her eponymous Greenwich Village boutique more than 40 years ago, she has taken the world by storm. In an interview featuring Patricia she describes her style as “utilitarian, modern and imaginative, with a storytelling and rocker edge.” which is not hard to discover with her own fabulous outfits she puts together. In addition to this she lets us in on her inspirations… “I’m inspired by the young, creative energy that constantly surrounds me. I’m inspired by whatever my eyes see and my brain retains as memory data. My inspiration includes, but is not limited to, fashion.” With her inspirations not being limited it just shows her talent is incredible.

Patricia Field is a well known stylist however she is best known as the costume designer and stylist on set for ‘sex and the city’. She's a fashion visionary who has changed the way women wear clothes ever since helming the style on Sex and the City. Alongside ‘sex and the city’ she has also styled many films such as ‘The devil wears Prada’ and ‘Ugly betty’ , Field used clashing textures and patterns to explain each character’s mind-set and status on screen. Personally, out of all the films that she has styled, I adore the outfits she has created for Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker). Her outfits are for a typical “uptown girl” in New York yet Carrie’s nameplate necklace is a reference to the types of jewellery that Field saw Black and Latina girls wearing around town in the 1990s, so we can see Patricia’s work is very cultural as well. My all time favourite outfit what Patricia styled was Carrie’s blue ruffle dress as shown in the picture below. The reason for this being is that the dress is very over the top and dramatic yet simplistic and girly.

Katie Grand was born April 1971 in Leeds. Katie however grew up in Selly Oak, Birmingham. At the age of 12 she discovered her love for fashion, thanks to her step-mum who she found very “chic at the time. At secondary school she stated her strongest subjects were Maths, History and English. On deciding her career, she wanted to go into the art or fashion industry, so she began taking night classes at the local college in sculpture, life drawing , jewellery making and pottery to improve her design skills. After completing sixth form, Grand began a foundation course at Birmingham's Bourneville college of art. In January 2014 the annual Debretts 500 list announced Katie as one of the most influential names in the UK, and in December 2013, she was included in Business Of Fashion's 'BoF 500' as one of the people shaping the global fashion industry.

Katie Grand

Katie Grand is the founding editor-in-chief of Love magazine. But before Love magazine she was studying at London’s Central Saint Martins, where she found it hard to settle on a single subject and she was co-editor of Eat Me, a student magazine, where she worked alongside the photographer Rankin.

Grand has Collaborated with Marc Jacobs and has worked with for the past 11 years. She is the creative director of the womenswear, menswear and beauty campaigns for Marc Jacobs. In addition, among her many other projects and roles, she is the creative director of the Marc by Marc Jacobs womenswear campaign and the art director and stylist of Balmain's men's and women's campaign. My favourite shoot what she has styled has to be the Balmain Paris Ad, as she has a great understanding of what models suit the specific clothing item.

Edward Enninful Edward Enninful was born in Ghana but moved to London at a very young age. His mother worked as a seamstress, and inspired him with the vividly patterned colours and fabrics she used while creating clothing for her British-Ghanaian friends. Edward was scouted by a model agency and approached by Simon Foxton. After Simon spotting him, Edward was on set with him weeks later shooting at Simons house. At the age of 18 he was presented a opportunity to become the fashion director at ID Magazine. Seven years later he was contributing editor to Italian Vogue.

Enninful is one of the most influential stylists in the industry, and is currently the fashion and style director of W magazine. However Edward would have not gotten where he is today if he didn’t cement his place at the heart of the fashion establishment as a contributing editor to American Vogue for six years from 2005. In short order, W began showing signs of life. The magazine’s ad pages are up 16.7 percent this year through May, with 453 pages compared to 388 pages for the same period last year, according to Media Industry Newsletter. It was the biggest year-over-year gain among fashion titles. (thanks to Edward).

Mel Ottenberg

Mel Ottenberg born in the United states of America. He is the Stylist and fashion editor, at Purple magazine. In 2013, named 032C 's fashion director. Mr. Ottenberg has spent the last decade or so as a stylist working primarily in magazines and on the runway. He styled the fashion week shows of the workmanlike men’s wear designer Adam Kimmel and contributed to magazines at a distance from the mainstream, like Purple and i-D.

Mel is the man responsible for Rihanna’s latest looks and trends as he is her personal wardrobe stylist. Ottenberg began working with Rihanna for the “Loud” tour in 2011, for which he commissioned his boyfriend, the designer Adam Selman, and the designer Jeremy Scott to create the costumes. Mel is probably one of my favourite stylist of all time purely because he has created the whole Rihanna signature look. One of my favourite looks Mel pulled out the bag was; the black lace dress with the Chanel pearl sunglasses & the pearl chocker. The dress by itself is very playful and risky which describes Rihanna's whole personality and stage act but the pearls sophisticate the whole look which shows Rihanna has got a different side to her.

Principles of styling

Women who have apple body shapes tend to have fuller breasts, fuller stomach and wide shoulders (not appealing for most) However women like Kate Winslet have no fear as they embrace there body shape by wearing the correct clothing! Kate has avoided detail around the stomach and hip are by keeping the dress plain and simple, which is a key fact for other apple bodies, the detail on the dress in above the bust line and below the hip line. This does not draw attention to the middle part of her body and the detail puts her body in the right proportion. Other guide lines which Kate and similar body shapes follow are; Try to avoid wearing chunky boots or over the knee, leggings and skinny jeans this does not then minimalize your legs. In addition to this if you would like to emphasize your bust go for a V-neck top or some plunging necklines this tricks the eye to make your body appear longer and draws great attention to the bust!

P E A R Pear Body shape’s tend to have larger hips than busts along with an unbelievable defined waist, which many people nowadays are extremely jealous of as celebrity's flaunt off their pear figure. For example Jlo, The queen of pop Beyone and former actress in Gossip Girl Leighton Meester. when Pear shape girls are picking out an outfit they should remember to attract the eye to the upper part of their body whilst de emphasising the lower half of their body. By doing this they should wear bold/bright prints making the shoulder/chest area seem bigger than what it actually is. When planning an outfit it is also important to include accessories, the accessories which flatter this particular body shape the most is big statement necklaces and large drooped earrings. Both of these draw attention to the top half of the body which then distracts the lower half.

Hourglass 8.4% of women have a hourglass figure, it’s the figure we all die for! One of the Most popular celebrities who we are certainly familiar with there hourglass body shape is Kim Kardashian. Kim looks good in absolutely everything as she knows what suits her an what doesn’t. Here are some tips to embrace the hourglass figure… Stay away from heavily beaded or over embellished dresses, they tend to make you appear larger than you actually are and can leave you looking unbalanced. Dress in clothes that follow the curves (Kim’s dress on the right) of their body shape rather than hide it. Jeans are a great example, mid or high rise with a wide waist band are perfect. Last but not least some materials to look out for whilst buying clothes; very fine cotton or cotton mixed with polyester, fine knits and fine silk. These materials will help attract attention in all the right places.

Boyish The classic ‘boyish’ body shape, also known as rectangle, consists of having Small busts, a undefined waist and narrow hips. Many people crave of having this look as the majority of catwalk models have this type of body. But even so those models wish they was a bit more curvier! The secret to create these curves on such a straight figure like this is to wear clothes that produce an illusion of curves, such as, tops with ruffles and frills, fuller sleeves and floaty fabrics. Clothes like this make the body to appear more fuller therefore giving the appearance of having a large bust and having more feminine features. Not only tops give off this illusion too, structured dresses (or architectural) also gives the appearance of curves.

Top Heavy Top heavy women like to refer themselves to an ‘inverted triangle’ being more broad and heavier on the top half of their body but usually being blessed with slender legs as well. A well known fact for top heavy girls is that the more you cover up the bust area the more bigger it’s going to look. With having a large bust you can either go two ways when coming to try on an outfit and getting it to suit you, flatter the bust area by creating a hourglass shape with specific clothing or emphasize the bust area making it appropriate by wearing V-neck tops. When choosing clothes you should consider going dark on top and lighter on the bottom. Having a darker upper half makes people glance over the dark area and not give much attention to it, so having a lighter bottom half or even patterns and prints draws attention to the right place, thin legs.

Several rings at a time can suddenly not only make a statement but add a Indie feel within the outfit…

Accessories

Big, bold, chunky necklaces makes anybody's plain outfit look unbelievable. The necklace draws attention to the whole outfit.

Statement bags doesn’t necessarily mean ‘big’. You can still complete a outfit with a petite bag. BAGS ARE ESSENTIAL!

Accessories such as earrings, headbands and hats attract attention to the upper half of your outfit and especially your face.

Mixing Textures. Tips: • Mix & match prints according to colours and textures, not the prints themselves, the chances are If the colours look good together, the prints will look good together too. • Stripes look amazing with… polka dots, florals, tropicals and animal print because stripes are very simplistic they are super versatile against any other print. • Animal print goes well with… other animal prints, stripes, checks and florals. • Break up the look with solids if the variety is too much for you.

Colour Theory Having a great knowledge and understanding of the colour wheel can help dramatically when coming to styling an outfit.

Warm • Red • Orange • Yellow • pink

Cold • Blue • Green • Blue tones of purple.

Warm Neutral • Cream • Beige • Tan • Brown

Analogous Colours Analogous colours are groups of three colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel, with one being the dominant colour, which tends to be a primary or secondary colour, and one on either side of the colour. When wanting to create a (analogous colour) outfit just pick any one colour on the colour wheel, then choose the colour to the right or the left of the original, there is your guide to then go onto creating a perfect outfit.

Monochromatic colours are all the colours (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. monochromatic outfits consists off wearing separates of one colour that have different textures and/or similar shades of that colour for an overall tonal look. When you keep your overall outfit within the same colour hue, the outcome can be just as striking as wearing a bold pattern or vivid colour.

Look number 2 is very universal. It is wearable to go on a night out with friends however it is still elegant to be worn in the day time if going for a meal.

These make-up products create a look which is multi-wearable. Many of the products suit different skin tones but these specific products will look great on this clients complexion. This day time look will really compliment this client as the statement belt will make her waist smaller than what it actually is. All the accessories give it a glam feel.

Evaluation The future trend I have chosen for my photo-shoot is iridescent AW 16/17. Iridescent is all things shiny and pearlescent when it comes to clothing and even makeup, this trend is very similar to the holographic trend in AW 15/16. I believe I have promoted my specific trend through the use of clothing and makeup. For my outfit I chosen a very pale green dress which gives off the look of a blouse with a collar and a shirt, on the bottom half of the dress there is a faint iridescent fabric which lays like a skirt on-top of the dress. In addition to this my make-up was very detailed as I wanted my make-up to stand out the most to get the iridescent vibe within the look. My make-up consists of different coloured glitter under the eye area, I chosen this because the reflection of the glitter will look good when coming to take the photographs. Also I highlighted the obvious points of my face(cheekbone, brow bone, tear duct, rim of nose, cupids bow and forehead) to give me a glowing/shiny look which relates back to my trend. My targeted consumer groups was originally going to be Student. However once my photo-shoot was completed I realised the consumer group was a mix of students and innovators. This is because I was a model within the photo-shoot so with me being 17 and a student myself, it fitted well. However once I edited my photographs tremendously to fit into my chosen trend, all of my photographs are heavily edited so I knew I had a theme to go with once editing more pictures. My editing techniques were overlaying of iridescent photographs onto my own photographs and high ring the saturation to make them bold and bright which gives off a more conceptual look what covers the innovator side. My magazine I have chosen is V magazine. V magazine is a high end fashion magazine with the latest trends and gossip. I decided this because every front cover of V is very close-up of people and celebrities which relates to my pictures, in addition to this the editing on many of their pictures was similar in the way I have edited mine. I mainly chosen V magazine as I realised many of the front covers were young adults who are currently a student or was not so long ago, so it fitted perfectly with my consumer group. In V magazine the way they styled the models in the front cover, covers the innovators in the consumer group.

For my photo-shoot I had to plan tremendously to get a final idea completed. To do this I made mood boards consisting of pictures/ideas for; Hair & makeup, location/scene, Model/poses and garment/accessories. This helped me a lot as it was easy to see and choose which asset out of each group I preferred the most and could then fit it all together to suit my photo-shoot. I also prepared myself before the photo-shoot by buying bubbles (which in the end I did not use as my final photographs) and iridescent party stripes as props. The props helped a lot when coming to think of the poses the model could do, which made it overall easier to shoot. Beforehand I experimented with different makeup ideas on templates of a face, mainly using glitter. I completed 5 different makeup looks on the templates before I finally decided which one to go with and use by re-creating it. Overall I think that the photo-shoot went really well considering my ideas did not go to plan. I planned to use my friend, Helen, as the main model in the photoshoot as she is very bold and young which fitted well with my consumer group. However the day I hoped to shoot the look my friend went on holiday last minute and was not able to model. Unfortunately on this day I could not find another model to cover so I had to improvise and model myself. By modelling myself I was not able to take the photographs which was a disadvantage since I had specific looks in mind. Despite this, My sister studied art in college and university and she had to cover the topic of photography. This was a big benefit to the photo-shoot in general as she agreed to photograph. I informed her on the trend I was going for and showed her all my mood boards so she had an idea of the completed look I was hoping for. Me and my sister worked great together as we was both on the same page about the overall look, and she gave opinions to make the photos even better. Before the photo-shoot I already knew I had a dress related to my trend which was a major advantage because I did not have to buy more garments. Yet I had difficulty finding iridescent props apart from bubbles (which I already had) as I spent 2 full days looking in shops. Finally I found Iridescent party stripes which was unusual as I was hoping for iridescent fabric, but the stripes fitted in better than the fabric as I shot the photographs in a bath tub. If I could do my photo-shoot differently I would defiantly have more garments to shoot/model in, also I would make sure I have a model prepared who can defiantly make the photo-shoot. Apart from that I would not change anything about my photo-shoot as I am really pleased with the outcome.
