The hotel developer is interested in creating a 5-star,waterfront boutique hotel in Lisbon. The architect, interior design team and the developer will work closely together to achieve the developer’s goal. The developer will then propose the design to the city as well as its neighbors.

Includes all actions and areas that guests will be exposed to during their stay. Efficient and thoughtful space planning will allow this team to run smoothly, and create a good first impression on guests.

These hardworking professionals are crucial to creating hospitality and running a well-oiled machine. Making sure they have sufficient space and efficient circulation will add value to guests’ overall experience.

THE DIGITAL NOMADS

THE VACATIONERS

THE BUSINESS PERSONS

Lisbon is one of the main digital hubs in Europe and the scene is only growing. The hotel should include a place to work, with relatively cheap food, good coffee and Wi-Fi in order to attract this group and potentially become a meetup location.

Vacationers come to Lisbon because it is one of the cheapest and attractive cities in Europe. These clients come here for food, wine, surfing, beaches, music and more. Being located nearby to each of these attractions is key.

These are not the largest group of tourists in Lisbon, but they are important to take care of. Therefore, the site will be 20 minutes away from the airport and the hotel’s cafe will offer quick eats and good coffee. The restaurant will have tables that seat 6 or more for potential meetings.

Saudade

THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

S au d a d e Saudade is a Portu Portuguese word untranslatable in English. It is heard in the soundtrack of Portugal; Fado. It can be seen on the It is a culture of melancholy. Saudade people’s somber expressions. expres is a deep emotional state; stat a yearning or existential craving for what is no longer there. It is an aappreciation for the beauty in sadness and an acknowledgment the past and the present. Saudade is a “delicious k l d t off th cocktail for a heart that longs to feel what it means to be human.” The ratio of tourists to residents in Lisbon is 9:1. Their streets are full of foreign travelers who are unaccustomed to this irrevocable component of their culture. Amid a crisis of overtourism, there is a barrier between the Lisboans and its visitors, and Hotel Saudade aims to bridge it. The design bridges the past and the present; old worn textures and traditional Portuguese architectural elements, paired with contemporary furnishings and smooth, luxurious materials; modern technology that enhances the experiences of both guests and staff, with personally curated amenities and encounters with distinctly Lisboa customs. Situated port-side, visitors are immediately introduced to one of Lisbon’s greatest loves and the epitome of the feeling saudade, the ocean. In its vastness and beauty, we are joyfully reminded not only how small we are but also how much there is to explore. This notion will drive the juxtaposition of proportion with high ceilings contrasted with low furniture. The constantly changing impression of the color of the ocean will drive the palette of the hotel, blues, teals and sea foams that will be playfully applied throughout to give each space a subtle difference in mood. Blues, the color we most associate with sadness, will be paired with whites, greys, and browns, to convey a whimsical sense of melancholy and a rich limited color palette.
