A New Chapter By Emma Marion, Division: 39S On May 7th, Legacy’s Key Club had the privilege to attend an end of the year social with other schools within the district. We were invited by the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield, and enjoyed great food and conversation at Mansfield City Hall. Along with this, we were able to hear some words of wisdom from previous officers and got to say a few words of our own. All of our new officers for the upcoming school year were able to attend, making it the first big event that marked the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a new. Getting to listen to an abundance of speeches given by dedicated past officers and highly active schools within our district was really inspiring, and kept our club motivated for the upcoming year. One speech in particular was given that I felt was truly moving. The topic was how to handle college, but it wasn’t a typical broadly motivational speech. Instead, it pinpointed helpful tips like join clubs and find a good study spot. What was really inspirational was how Key Club connected to it all, and how it will essentially prepare you for your future, whatever it may look like. By putting yourself in seemingly uncomfortable situations and interacting with all types of people, you are setting yourself up for success by improving yourself as a person. Key Club, being a service organization, gives ample opportunity to grow and develop with others, and teaches you the importance of servitude. As you move on from high school, these acquired skills will stick with you wherever you may go, and will continuously work in your favor. This past year for Legacy’s Key Club was challenging, we lost some members and unfortunately had limited service opportunities. When we were invited to speak on our club’s behalf, our main goal was to explain our plans for next year, and how we look forward to rebuilding the club. The biggest thing was recruiting, and our first step towards that would be reaching out to freshmen at our upcoming fish camp. We then discussed our excitement for LEDCON, and different fundraisers we planned on having throughout the year. Listing our goals and hearing the goals of others brought a realistic approach to the things we want to achieve, while also reiterating our main purpose to serve other people. Having the opportunity to attend the social was a great experience, and seeing just how influential Key Club and Kiwanis is across the board gave our club the motivation to reach more people. We look forward to this new year, and are thankful to our mentors and peers for their guidance and support.

LEDCON By: Eva Gurung, Division 39S, Mansfield Legacy High School After being absent from LEDCON for almost 2 years, Legacy High School is anticipating its return for LEDCON 2023. With ongoing planning and elevated desire from officers and members of Legacy’s Key Club, we are all thrilled to finally feel a sense of normality after the club’s stagnant stage from the COVID-19 pandemic. When I first joined Key Club, I was a virtual freshman student. As a new student to the district itself, I was completely oblivious to the variety of clubs offered at Legacy. However, when I discovered Key Club, I instantly knew that I had to put myself in the organization. I admired the work Key Club has done for communities around the world, and I too wanted to be part of it. When I joined Legacy’s virtual Key Club meeting, I noticed the emphasis towards “LEDCON”, something that I wasn’t knowledgeable of at the time. With more research and questions, I discovered that it is a convention where Key Clubs around the world come together to celebrate and share the year’s experience. I took advantage of my time being virtual and surfed social media to find posts regarding LEDCON memories from MISD. I was extremely excited to see the activities and ceremonies LEDCON hosted, and the birth of my goal to attend the convention surfaced. Back then as a member, I was saddened to find out how Legacy wasn’t participating in LEDCON due to COVID-19. However, with COVID rates decreasing and now holding the position of Co-President, I am determined to work with my fellow officers to bring Legacy back to LEDCON 2023. The stories of LEDCON greatly inspired me to become more involved with Key Club, and I hope that with our presence in 2023, Legacy as a whole will continue to dedicate themselves to helping the community around.
