What will the ATM operational concept and system architecture in the timeframe 2020 to 2070 look like and what changes are required to be implemented in SESAR to ensure a smooth transition?

Research Scope

The FLITE project will evaluate future air travel scenarios identify the stakeholders and their competences and evaluate whether the SESAR operational concept and underpinning technologies and infrastructure are able to accommodate these scenarios. FLITE will then identify any gaps and determine the ability of existing analysis tools to deal with the gaps, and identify their limitations. The project will develop enhanced analysis tools for simulating future scenarios from an operational perspective and analyse the operational, technological and infrastructure requirements for the future scenarios. Finally, FLITE will specify the system requirements and functional architecture for the “post‐SESAR ATM system”.

Research Results

Each of the objectives will have an associated outcome, with the main two being the tools for the analysis of future concepts and scenarios, and the specification of a functional architecture of the post‐SESAR ATM system.
