“The journey” by Francesca Sanna
This is our ending of the story.
Finally we arrive in an Austrian station and we meet a volunteer called Gustav. He gives us some advice and we go together to a migrants’ centre. Finally we arrive in an Austrian station and‌
‌we meet a volunteer called Gustav. He gives us some advice and we go together to a migrants’ center. Now we have a new bedroom for all of us and during the day we go to school with our mother, we are learning German.
The first day at school isn’t good! Everyone is looking at me! During the break nobody is playing with me. I am all alone! Some children say something. “Your clothes are dirty! Go away! We don’t want to get sick because of you!” I don’t understand what they say.
I am crying! Why don’t they want me? When will we be safe?
After school, my mother asks us how it was. My brother says it was good! I say it was good, too! My mother is sad enough! I miss my dad and my friends! I miss my home and my school!
Today, it is another day at school and I am very sad. During the break I meet a girl with my same sad face. She is Ingrid , a tall girl with blue eyes , long blond hair . She speaks English ; finally I can speak with someone. She tells me that her dad passed away from cancer last month. She misses him, and I can understand how she is feeling.
Now the situation at school is changing I meet up with Ingrid during the break. She is older than me but we feel well together. The other children are still mean to us but we have to grow up quickly and the other children are so immature for us.
As time goes by, Ingrid and I play together during the breaks. Now, I can really tell my mother that I have a nice time at school. During the last few days, the other children have stopped calling me names. I speak German better now and I can talk with other children. I have more friends now. During the Language lesson, my teacher asks me to talk about my country, the war and my journey! The other children listen to my story and ask me questions. They now know what I have been through and they treat me better. There are still many difficulties, but we feel safe and there is no war here!
And the most important thing is that I can dream of a better future for me and my family!
