Graffiti may also express underlying social and political messages and a whole genre of artistic expression. For these reasons pupils ,using the words find in this project ,decided to make a graffiti wall at school that represents the war’s atrocities but also the possibility of change.

The suitcases by Alexis Akrithatkis
With the help of our Art teacher, Mrs. Natasa Aristidaki, students discussed and analyzed “The Suitcases” by the Greek artist Alexis Akrithakis. After finding information about his life and work, students saw and discussed Akrithakis’ Suitcases. What would you pack in your suitcase, if you were getting ready for a trip? What would you pack in your suitcase, if you were leaving your country for ever?
Alexis Akrithakis was a Greek painter. He was born in Athens in 1939. He lived in Paris until 1961 and then he moved to Berlin until 1970. He exhibited his art in Greece, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. His art is full of symbols and symbolisms: flowers, birds, hearts, flags, suitcases. He created a magic world in his paintings. He died in Athens in 1994.
Following the Art teacher’s directions, students cut out some symbols from Akrithakis’ “Suitcases” and used them as a starting point for their own work of art about migration.
