Concept The hourglass is one of the most significant historically calculating apparatus. There was always a challenge for the people to measure the time accurately. The difference of the hourglass between the other measurment devices is that it gives a visual feedback of the hour that past. The time is the transition from life to death and this project is dedicated on the death of the twentythree cocklepickers that why this composition was created for the concept design. The initial form of the pod was inspired by the shape of the hourglass. The main idea of the design is that there is a protected and safe space that it is enclosed by an exterior structure. In the hourglass, the sand on the top half symbolizes the time that comes. In contrast the bottom half symbolizes the time passed. This connetion is made with the materials that will be used . The bottom half of the pod will be exposed to the natural elements. However, the top half of the pod will be safe as it is higher than the level of the tide. This straight connection of the time, the pod and the hourglasss will be a memorial for the chinese cocklpickers and would be an experience for the visitor as he would see the results of the tide one the pod.

The cultural theatre is another important building of the master plan that is located next to the sea were today is located the open stadium. The theatre has been designed inspired by the old classical greek theatres that used to be in the area of Ierapetra in a more modern way. In addition, we thought that Ierapetra needs a permanent space for all the cultural events that offers a nice atmosphere with view to the sea. The space of the theatre would be a part of every event and would promote it.
