House Presents: The Collection
Hello, and welcome to the inaugural issue of ‘The Collection’ a luxurious title brought to you by the publishers of local property bible ‘House’ magazine. Rather than just another ‘high-end magazine’ we wanted to create a product of value that would be read for its interesting content rather than merely flicked through. You won’t find the usual in this title, and I hope you’re as happy with that as we are. We’ve worked hard to find some truly intriguing and creative features and thrown those in between some of the articles you might be more used to. You’ll also notice that this book is smaller than the usual ‘luxury magazine’, we felt that enormous magazines was a trend that needed to be bucked with a more intelligent read that happily sits at the top of the pile on your coffee table. We hope you enjoy The Collection and welcome your feedback on thecollection@emch.co.uk For information on appearing in the next issue please contact 01202 200 920. Buster + Punch create daring and exquisite design objects that celebrate custom living and individuality.
Philosophy
Hooked collection
Buster + Punch is a London-born interiors brand for those who want to live with conviction. They create daring & permanent lighting, furniture & limited editions.
Drawn from a world of custom motorcycles and rockstar lifestyle, their first collection 'Hooked' explores the darker side of life. The burnt rubber of a Harley, knurled grip of the volume knob and sensual touch of quilted silk, have inspired solid brass light fittings, whiskey bars, wingback chairs and even a limited edition motorcycle.
It all started in a small garage in East London, where they discovered a passion for customising the things they love. From light fittings to motorcycles, furniture to leather jackets, they expressed their personality the only way they knew how – by elevating the ordinary into the extraordinary. This devotion to craftsmanship has given birth to a series of inspiring collections, designed to evoke and enable you to express your individuality. After many years behind closed doors, this devotion to craftsmanship has led Buster+Punch into the light.
This has nothing to do with uniformity and everything to do with standing out from the crowd. All pieces have been designed and fashioned by Massimo Buster Minale and include unexpected collaborations with bike builders, whisky makers & rockstars. Welcome to their world.

Slightly unorthodox
A small and dynamic PR business founded by Jane Jones in 1999, the business specialises in leisure and hospitality, and boasts a specialist team of professionals. Achieving high impact expert solutions at a fraction of the normal cost of traditional PR, the boutique agency has some prized contacts and a depth of knowledge that is second to none. The team offers a wealth of experience in major event management; press releases, graphics and above all the cunning ability to come up with an interesting campaign tailored to suit a company’s exact needs. From product launches to festivals, new branding to a simple business makeover, the JJ PR team delivers. Don’t want an event? It doesn’t matter because there is so much to be said with words and images, and these days of course social media is king!
Jane Jones PR & Events can help your business grow through strategic PR campaigns and events.
JJPR believe in working closely with their clients and their ideas, this one-to-one meeting of minds is a strategy that is paramount in the whole scheme of achieving a positive end result. With so many specialist campaigns, Jane said: "We are sometimes considered slightly unorthodox, but our clients love the way we work and they soon come to realise that sending out a message that is considered a tad cutting edge can achieve great results. We’re happy when we get a reaction as we know we’ve achieved the kind of feedback our clients deserve, sometimes we have to take the bull by its horns and tell them to take a chance". "These days more often than not impact is measured by a splash of bizarre and standing out from the crowd, that’s where I think we win. Plenty of people have mentioned the word "Guru" and not wishing to profess that we are the best, I certainly know our clients get the best. We can deliver and they love our quirkiness".

3 Máximo Riera Miniature Series
The making of From the beginning, Maximo Reira was open to using cutting edge technology to achieve the highest quality execution of his designs. The first stage of the developing process involved turning the artist’s sketches into a three-dimensional digital image. This was done by computer modeling software with total supervision by the artist to ensure that the end result was an exact replica of his drawings.
2 Máximo Riera The Toad
The sculptures were produced using CNC (computer numerical control); one of the most avantgarde sculptural techniques available at present. The artist’s 3D sketches were fed into a computer; mechanized sculpting tools then precisely interpreted and reproduced the image to cut a precise replica of the original design from compressed foam blocks. The different parts were then assembled, glued, sanded and painted by hand.
The process certainly allowed the artist to accomplish a superb level of detail an authentic texture. The pieces transmit a dynamic sense of movement which almost challenges gravity, and results in a unique object with a soul, character and vitality most often found in the classic sculptural canon. The chairs sit astride the line dividing a strict, mathematical world of science and the more flexible and versatil world of art. Each piece therefore becomes a powerful intersection of complex human design integrated with nature’s splendour.
The miniature series The miniature chairs are based on the original and popular designs from Maximo Riera, where animals and furniture are combined to create unconventional and peculiar compositions.
1 Máximo Riera The Elephant
“I am always trying new techniques and materials. From the brainstorming, I have the intention for creating something new and different. Art always have to break boundaries and being an artist in now a days means that you have to take risks in order to create something new/ different – innovative. This is the key to make Art evolving”.
3
27
The Walrus
In this project I have tried to break through the boundaries between the artistic representation in the author’s imagination, and the final, materialized result. It has been a long and challenging adventure.
All pieces can be purchased from iO Gallery for more information contact info@maximoriera.com www.io-artgallery.com/shop
This piece has been designed to be the first Chaise Longue of the collection. It perfectly resembles the animal’s figure from one side to the other. The Walrus was drafted to accommodate the seats upon its back, merging into the animal with a flawless compatibility. This fact gives uniqueness to the composition. Maximo wanted to preserve the real elevation of the animal, making the person who sits on it, share the same perspective. One of the most challenging aspects in this work was the skin’s texture and consistency. The Walrus possesses a natural volume and magnitude, attributes that make him recognizable and distinct from any other species. Its thick skin wrinkles and rests along its surface; this was a key element to have in consideration to prevent an artificial result. To achieve the best possible outcome, maximo Riera uses the most accurate graphic biological data. For that reason, The Walrus Chair is an outstanding piece which holds a vital spirit.

Sound advice
Cohabitation of unmarried couples where do you stand legally? With the number of unmarried cohabiting couples increasing all the time so has the number of complex and costly legal cases if the relationship should unfortunately break down. The common perception amongst unmarried couples is that, in time, they are able to obtain the same legal rights as those of a married couple. It is only when unmarried couples separate do they become agonisingly aware that in fact the law sees them as essentially unrelated individuals, no matter how long they have been in a relationship together. So what can be done to protect your rights? What can be done to protect your investment?
Declaration of trust The majority of disputes revolve around the property, or home, the unmarried couple share with both, or one, of the parties having invested great time, effort and money. Whilst a Court will look to offer a fair division of a property through divorce proceedings, in respect of married couples, for an unmarried couple the strict laws of property and trust laws apply. A Declaration of Trust is a binding document between the co-owners outlining what proportion of the property each owner holds. Without such a document then, in the case of sole ownership, generally the law will see the other party (‘non-owner’) as having no interest at all, no matter how long they have been living in the property or whether they have contributed financially. In the case of joint ownership it will be considered that the parties own the property in equal shares.
Cohabitation agreement A Cohabitation Agreement is an agreement between the co-owners dealing more with the day to day matters. This agreement can cover, for example, the issue of rent, mortgage payments or bills. So long as both parties obtain separate legal advice and fully disclose then such an agreement can be enforceable through the Courts.
29
Children It should be noted that different rules apply to couples who have children, whether married or not. Both parents have a legal obligation to provide for their children. It is possible for one parent to apply to Court for financial provision against the other parent in respect of their children. The Courts power is wide ranging meaning they can make an order for, but not limited to, Child Maintenance, transfer of property or lump sum payment. Putting in place an agreement can mean peace of mind, prevent disagreements in the future and avoid potentially costly legal proceedings. It is always a good idea to seek legal advice from a Family Solicitor before living together so that you can be fully aware of your rights and how to protect those rights.

Mews 04, a large 5 bedroom double fronted mews house in London's Hyde Park.
A Transformation of Class
French Style at it's Finest
The initial brief was to re-design the timber framed faux Victorian Style conservatory completed in the 80's. AMA's solution was to replace it with a similar form avoiding and having to submit a potentially difficult and lengthy planning application.
A new floating stair divides the house in two with a new roof light bringing natural light to the centre of the house. Dyed and brushed solid oak flooring runs throughout, from the stairs, flooring and the doors.
The original design of three barrel vaults was transformed into a contemporary ‘sine curve’ form, with 3 large curved double glazed units, the largest single horizontal units in the UK. This elegant form has the appearance of a single sheet of flowing glass forming the new conservatory roof. This new space was to become the spring board for a new aesthetic approach of the rest of the house. The entrance lobby's floor is an elaborate mosaic of hand cut 10mm square marble pieces laid to repetitive wave form graphic. AMA designed the bespoke bronze and glass inlayed entry doors which announce the public spaces; the living room and conservatory. Floor finishes on the ground level are hand rubbed concrete to create a Terrazzo type patina. Three large bronze french doors open out from the conservatory to connect with the classical garden layout.
In the bathrooms, solid marble bath and basins carved to ama’s synonymous organic style are laid delicately with the warmth of a timber floor and walls. AMA took the opportunity to design all the built in joinery, bathroom units and the bespoke door handles and even specially configured door hinges.

I love it when a plan comes together
Introduction
Where do we do it?
Pure Town Planning was formed by Directors Matt Annen and Dan Wilden. We are two young, energetic planners full of enthusiasm for getting planning results. In November last year Neil McKeon joined the team as a planning consultant. Neil is working from our Bournemouth office where he has already settled in well. We have found him a challenging case load and Neil got stuck straight in and has already achieved an impressive number of planning permissions within his first 3 months!
We are willing to work wherever we are asked but, having our HQ office in Bournemouth and an expanding second office in Winchester, our main areas are Dorset and Hampshire - these are the Councils we know best.
What do we do? Planning Permission, Planning Consent, Planning Approval‌ whatever you call it obtaining this for our clients is our main focus. Not just any permission, but the best possible planning consent for you on your site – maximising the development value if that is what you want or perhaps meeting the specific needs of your business, institution or family. But that is not all. Not only do we want to obtain the best possible approval but we want to do it as swiftly, hasslefree and cost effectively as possible.
What have we achieved? In our first 2 years we have secured just over 150 planning approvals on application or appeal. With a proven track record we are no longer seen as the new kids on the block but are quickly becoming established as one of the area’s leading planning consultancies. See our impressive planning approval portfolio on our website including interactive project map.
Why choose Pure Town Planning? We are proactive, pragmatic and problem-solving. We also keep up-to-date with the ever-evolving field of town planning both nationally and locally in the south. Our approach and knowledge can give our clients an edge and turn a potential refusal around to an approval. See our website for the latest up-to-date briefing notes and bulletins on changes in the planning world.

Approved - Large ‘modern mansion’ Golf Links Road Ferndown Architect: Tony Holt Design Pure Town Planning have secured planning permission for substantial extensions and a total remodel which will transform an existing house on Golf Links Road, a Special Character Area in Ferndown, Dorset beyond all recognition. The approved scheme transforms the existing 3-bed chalet bungalow into a large two storey, 5-bedroom (all with en-suites), 7-reception room family house with an integral triple garage. If you would like a firm of planning consultants to push your dream home through the planning system then contact Matt, Dan or Neil in confidence.
Mixed use scheme consisting of 14 houses & 17 business units Christchurch Architect: Williams Lester Architects Pure Town Planning recently obtained planning consent for a large mixed use development approval in Christchurch, Dorset. Following relatively positive pre-application advice from the Council, we knew we were on the right track and after a number of alterations, we submitted a scheme for the demolition of the existing commercial buildings and the erection of 14 dwellings and 17 small business (B1 use) units with associated access and parking. Planning permission was granted first time within the Council’s statutory target date and without any affordable housing contributions. This project is a good example of how we have achieved our reputation as being a dynamic and pro-active firm of planning consultants.
Approved - 5 large houses in Poole Architect: Footprint Architects Pure Town Planning have achieved planning permission for the demolition of an existing two bedroom bungalow and the erection of a mini cul-de-sac development consisting of five large dwellings. The development site is in Upton which lies just outside Poole. Pure Town Planning were heavily involved in the lead up to the planning application, commenting on preliminary concept designs and layouts in order that once the application was submitted it had the best possible chance of being approved. Securing planning permission is not always as easy as we make it look – If you are planning a housing development and are looking for a firm with a fresh approach and a proven track record of successfully negotiating solutions to planning problems then we would be delighted to assist you.

No space too big or too small Every room is different, with varying ceiling heights, room shapes and wall measurements, so before the designer can begin drawing your plans, they will need to measure up. Sometimes there are also those awkward spaces, possibly a sloping ceiling, radiators, skirting and windows to take into account. Attention to detail is given to every aspect of your furniture, taking into account your requirements and advice from your designer. It is surprising how much more storage you get from fitted furniture however big or small your space is.

Unique circle yachts by Zaha Hadid Architects for Blohm+Voss
48
The Collection
The design concept, launched at the latest exhibition of Zaha Hadid’s work at the David Gill Gallery in London, is based around the sculptural form of a master prototype conceived for a 128m yacht.
1 Unique Circle Yachts Minimal Interior
2 Unique Circle Yachts Luxurious Lines
3 Unique Circle Yachts 90m JAZZ Yacht
The Unique Circle Yachts by Zaha Hadid Architects for Blohm+Voss is a family of five individual 90m yachts that creatively explore the design philosophies of the master prototype within the technical requirements of a fullyengineered yacht design. The overall design is informed by fluid dynamics and underwater ecosystems, with hydrodynamic research shaping the design of the hull. The exoskeleton structure of the upper section is an interwoven network of supports that vary in thickness and lend a natural aesthetic to the yacht’s external appearance; evoking the organic structural systems of natural marine formations and connecting the various levels and decks of the ship seamlessly via expressive diagonals. Whereas traditional yacht designs adhere to a strict horizontal order, this exoskeleton creates an intense connectivity between the various decks and elements of the design. The fluid design language of the master prototype has been applied to the five subsequent 90m variations of the Unique Circle Yachts, creating a design with the highest correlation between the various options. The 90m JAZZ yacht is the first of the Yachts that has been technically specified and detailed by the naval architects at Blohm+Voss. Its lineage from the 128m master prototype is evident, with further technical refinements to address the specifications required for ocean crossings.

Dynamic strength in design
Mega size and capabilities
In addition to JAZZ, four further 90m yachts have been designed to fulfil the different requirements and individual requests of their designated owners. Each design will vary in layout according to the owner’s preferences.
In recent years Blohm+Voss has built many of the world’s most prestigious mega yachts. These include the groundbreaking 394- foot “A “designed by Philippe Starck , the “Eclipse”, designed by Terrence Disdale, which at 533 feet (162.5 m) is the world’s second largest private yacht. Other Blohm + Voss superyacht projects include, the “Mayan Queen IV” and the “Palladium”.
The design process was very much a collaborative one, with Blohm+Voss and ZHA working together to address the practical challenges of designing a yacht while remaining true to the design language of the master prototype. The resulting designs are the synergy of Hadid’s design vision and the technical expertise of Blohm+Voss, allowing a flexibility and customisation in the eventual design of the yacht. “As a dynamic object that moves in dynamic environments, the design of a yacht must incorporate additional parameters beyond those for architecture – which all become much more extreme on water. Each yacht is an engineered platform that integrates specific hydrodynamic and structural demands together with the highest levels of comfort, spatial quality and safety.” explained Zaha Hadid. Blohm+Voss has the proven experience, the in-house technical expertise, and the capacities to offer tailormade solutions for the most demanding buyers in the superyacht market. The naval architects of Blohm+Voss are forever pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
Dr. Herbert Aly, CEO and Managing Partner of Blohm+Voss says: “On an aesthetic level, a superyacht is a great design task as everything is customised down to the last detail. A superyacht is by definition an exercise in total design, where every detail is looked at with attention and refinement. In the past, in the era of steam liners, there has been an attempt of utilising ship building elements in architecture. Zaha Hadid and her team have taken this ethos and created a bold new vision and a new benchmark in the design of superyachts.” Aly adds: “The idea of the Unique Circle Yachts allows for variation of a genotype and its phenotypes, offering a range of possible solutions based on an cognate platform. As a result Zaha Hadid’s design is malleable to suit the very individual wishes and needs of a potential customer which lies at the heart of Blohm+Voss’ approach to yacht design.

The Pig Brockenhurst Beaulieu Road, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, SO42 7QL T 0845 0779 494 info@thepigintheforest.com www.thepighotel.com
The focus is very much on the food – uncomplicated and simple British garden food, true to the micro seasons and influenced by the forest, with the emphasis squarely on fresh, clean flavours. Presided over by Head Chef James Golding (Le Caprice, J Sheekey, Soho House New York), The Pig is based on the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients that are produced sustainably and locally. What cannot be grown in The Pig’s walled kitchen garden, or in its extensive vegetable and fruit beds, is sourced locally, within 25 miles. This immediacy from garden to plate is The Pig’s trademark.
James’ trusty lieutenants are forager Garry Eveleigh and the kitchen gardener, Alex, who look after the garden under the watchful eye of the local organic farm partner, Sunnyfields'. Dependent on the season, diners can expect dishes of the calibre of Solent Clams & Marsh Samphire with White Wine and Crispy Sea Lettuce Crisps; Tatchbury Farm Black Pudding & Hampshire Duck Egg with Coleman’s Mustard Dressing and Borage Flowers and New Forest Wood Pigeon Salad with Cherry Tomato Dressing & Walled Garden Leaves. Served in an authentically reproduced, vine-clad Victorian greenhouse dining room, designed by the award-winning Marston & Langinger, with bare wood table tops and mismatched bone handled cutlery, a meal at The Pig is a truly one-of-a-kind experience. The unpretentious style of The Pig’s food is replicated throughout. Responsible for the overall look and feel has been a design team headed by Judy Hutson. Judy, who created interiors for the first seven Hotel du Vin venues, the Peat Spade Inn and Hotel Crillon Le Brave in Provence has enjoyed over 17 years’ experience in hotel and restaurant design.

Offering rooms and breakfast with a difference, The Pig-in the wall is located within Southampton’s historic medieval walls by the waterfront. It comprises 12 bedrooms, with room rates starting from £125 per night. A light breakfast is available at an additional charge. Designed once again by Judy Hutson, The Pig–in the wall has the same shabby chic style as The Pig. Offering a touch of luxury combined with homely charm, the bedrooms boast assorted furnishings, comfy beds, 'larders' stocked with snacks and drinks.
2
The rooms are divided into ‘Snug’: quiet, intimate and quirky rooms located in the eaves, with original beams, slanted ceilings and walk-in monsoon showers; ‘Comfy’ with their six foot beds and en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers and ‘Spacious’, with the added benefit of a stand-alone roll top bath, some of which are actually within the bedroom. This little piglet also has a lounge serving salads and light bites such as charcuterie boards, together with great wines by the glass. It's also a place where you can pop in for a coffee and a pastry. Space does not allow for a restaurant, but for lunch or dinner The Pig Brockenhurst is just 20 minutes away, and complimentary transfers and reservations can be made for guests.

The Pig Near Bath Pensford, Somerset, BN39 4NS T 0845 0779 494 info@thepigintheforest.com www.thepighotel.com
The Pig-near Bath, the latest addition to the Pig litter, will be opening in March 2014 and are now taking bookings! Formerly Hunstrete House Hotel, this Georgian House is being lovingly restored. Designed in the same shabby chic style that has become The Pig’s signature, it will feature a greenhouse restaurant, a private room for dinner parties and 2 treatment rooms- there will be 24 rooms in the main house, with a further five gardener’s cottage rooms in the grounds. From garden to plate philosophy, what cannot be grown in The Pig’s walled kitchen garden will be sourced within 25 miles. Idyllically situated in 20 acres of woodland and deer park, tucked away in the folds of the rolling Mendip Hills and just a 10-minute drive from Bath.
65
Hospitality at its very finest Robin Hutson, chief executive of Home Grown Hotels, parent company of The Pig, commented “We have had our eyes on this area for a while and the location just seven miles from Bath and 12 miles from Bristol is fantastic for us. It is far enough away from the existing Pigs not to be in competition, has great demographics and has always been an area renowned for great country house hotels – we are really looking forward to reviving this property and making it an integral part of the local scene again.” The Pig's 26 bedrooms are a continuation of a theme evolved rather than designed. Here you will find assorted furnishings, great beds, oversized showers, ‘larders’ stocked with snacks and drinks, espresso machines and, with every room having a forest or garden outlook. Aside from the 16 bedrooms in the main house, there are 10 rooms in the newly completed old stables and yards, all boasting timber framing, original features, stable partitions and troughs. Individually named, these range from The Hen House, a hideaway suite on two levels offering fantastic views over the surrounding countryside, to The Pig Sty, comprising a double bedroom, lounge and bunk room.
6
These unique offerings provide a mix of accommodation, ideal for families, couples and anyone looking for a touch of luxury combined with homely charm. The theme continues into the gardens where informal areas have been created where guests can kick back and relax over a glass – or two – and even savour some al fresco dining courtesy of the wood fired oven in the courtyard. A gentle stroll down the gravel paths will lead to further surprises: a walled kitchen garden, fruit cage, wild flower meadow orchard, smoke house, chicken and pig houses. Finally to the garden pond, location of The Pig’s ‘potting shed’. An original garden shed, it has been transformed into a single treatment room with charming features such as the rake-turned-curtain rail. Here guests can enjoy massage treatments. Hand-picked by Robin Hutson, Chairman of Home Grown Hotels and Lime Wood Group and co-founder of Hotel du Vin, the management team at The Pig is headed by Hotel Director Jorge Gertrudes.

This small boutique hotel and restaurant can be found just off the high street and boasts a cool relaxed style, fantastic food overseen by chef patron Alex Aiken, and a hoard of frequently returning regulars. Being positioned on the edge of the New Forest is more than just a great location – it’s a great opportunity to source quality ingredients. This philosophy is at the core of its 15 Mile Menu which seeks to deliver delicious food at an affordable price using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. Using meats, vegetables and fruit from a network of farms and producers around the New Forest, plus fish and shellfish out of Mudeford Harbour, the chefs deliver a menu that is constantly adapting to what’s on offer. We started with a tossed rustic salad, combining sharp pickled vegetables with sweet oven-dried tomatoes in a pleasantly surprising twist. My partner chose confit duck hash combining rich pieces of shredded confit duck, a smooth potato mash and a fried egg to top it off, runny yolk and all.
73
3
To continue we opted for fillet of seabass, delicately seared and complemented by a subtle lemon, white wine and parsley sauce. After much deliberation we also chose the slow roasted belly pork with a haricot bean stew. Whilst we crunched on crackling, this tasty and warming dish helped us ignore the weather raging outside. To finish we chose the much loved classic Dorset apple cake (comfort food at it best) served warm with custard, and the seasonal rhubarb tart with a sharpness counteracted by a sumptuous sweet ginger ice cream.
With the great deal of time and effort spent sourcing local produce to create a well considered menu, you’d expect a hefty price, yet the 15 Mile Menu is available for only £15 for 2 courses. With a newly awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand for good cuisine at reasonable prices, we’d sincerely recommend experiencing the 15 Mile Menu. The relaxed environment and friendly, attentive staff will make your meal a memorable one. Aside from the 15 Mile Menu, The Kings Arms boasts a range of regular offers across the week; Friday is Fizz & Chips, whilst Wednesdays are Josper Grill nights where you can taste the unique smoky taste of steaks, whole fish and burgers grilled over oaky charcoal. If you fancy a treat, seasonal events such as Comedy Nights and the ever popular Supper Clubs will give you an evening to look forward to.

Grillmarkaðurinn serves New Style Icelandic Cuisine where Hrefna Sætran and her team approach Icelandic ingredients out of respect and the know-how of the farmers themselves.
Traditional dishes
An active dialogue with farmers and producers
The team strives to garnish traditional dishes with an extra, odd splash – the result is a very Icelandic, yet very international restaurant in magnificent surroundings.
A road-trip around Iceland was Hrefna’s way to figure out the best ingredients Iceland had to offer and which ones would suit at Grillmarkaðurinn:
Grillmarkaðurinn was first conceived between Hrefna and her long time co-workers from Fiskmarkaðurinn, Gulli and Ágúst, all of them today co-owning the restaurant and working there. They wanted to establish a restaurant that fully explored the best Icelandic ingredients available, both locally and in season.
“I travelled around Iceland for two weeks, spending time with and getting to personally know quality farmers and producers. The result was a long list of Icelandic raw material that I wanted to work with and now constitutes the menu at Grillmarkaðurinn.” — Hrefna Sætran
The concept of Grillmarkaðurinn was fully matured long before the perfect location was found. So, when Reykjavík City officials rebuilt a cluster of old houses in the city center, Hrefna and the team rushed in to realize the restaurant of their dreams.
Grillmarkaðurinn is still open to the different seasons in Iceland. When the farmers and producers have something extra special to work with, the Grillmarkaðurinn team is notified and can develop new menu specials, available for a limited time.

What happens in Grillmarkaðurinn doesn’t stay in Grillmarkaðurinn
No one designed Grillmarkaðurinn. Yet it has the feel of a complex interior design. The same principles were applied in creating Grillmarkaðurinn and Fiskmarkaðurinn – it was a collective spin project of friends and coworkers that added bits and pieces over a period of time.
Obviously some of the guests there have been spilling their beans after their visit. Hrefna and the gang have an almost extremely strict no-advertising policy, meaning that the reputation has been built up in a natural manner, relying on word of mouth.
With the use of Icelandic elements – running water, rocks, dried fish-skin amongst other elements – the design aimed to capture an all-Icelandic experience. Grillmarkaðurinn has very quickly become Reykjavík’s favorite restaurant, seating nearly 200 guests, occupied most nights in all seasons by pleased guests.

Upon this church I will build a Rock Located on the first floor of a previous eighteenth century Methodist church we visit Rock Westbourne to sample the munu.
1
Fine food, fine dining We were invited by ‘Rock’ in Westbourne to their guests for the evening. I had seen the restaurant in passing, living locally to Westbourne, but hadn’t yet had the opportunity to discover what it had to offer. Opting not to take the lift we were guided up an enchanting winding staircase bringing us out into a captivating and vibrant restaurant. We were instantly greeted with friendly staff and the sounds of a fitting live swing band creating a warm and welcoming ambiance. The menu had plenty of selection particularly offering seasonal produce from local suppliers and a selection of fresh fish, changing daily depending on the catch. To start my partner had seared scallops with pork belly, celeriac & apple which was beautifully presented. The saltiness from the scallops and pork complimented each other with the sweetness of the apple to break up the flavours. I had the Dorset bresola & salt beef hash, poached egg & cockle dressing. The combination of the perfectly poached egg and meaty beef flavour was lovely. For our main my partner ordered the 8oz Fillet steak served with hand cut chips, béarnaise sauce and Hampshire watercress. The meat was sourced locally, exclusively from Dorset & Hampshire cattle. The steak was cooked to order, and quite honestly it was the best fillet steak I had ever tasted. Even the size and shape of the fillet made
this steak exquisite, it’s thickness and cut made it a prime candidate for a perfect medium rare, and as if the steak wasn’t enough, who would have thought chips could taste so good? And with the béarnaise sauce to top it off, this simple yet quality dish was simply mouthwatering... until we tried the loin of New Forest venison with pumpkin fondant, Roasted quince & game jus. My goodness, it was delicious! Once again, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked succulent meat. The complimenting jus was flavoursome and moreish. We do enjoy the odd glass of wine but aren’t exactly connoisseurs, the Manager Kelly Ager, was at hand to give recommendations and chose the perfect wines to accompany our meals. Let’s just say I’m not normally a red wine drinker, but I have been turned! As if starters and mains weren’t enough, we gorged on dessert too. I have never seen a lemon meringue pie like it! The meringue was a giant pristine pillow lightly torched and floating on a sharp lemon curd and pastry. It was original but contemporary and tasted absolutely delicious. To sum things up, Rock did not fail to impress. With a perfect mix of a charming ambiance in picturesque quaint surroundings, delicious fresh food, and friendly, attentive staff, the Rock is certainly a restaurant I look forward to dining in again.

Sculpting sound
Sometimes serendipity succeeds where school falls short. Matt Richmond could have travelled any one of several roads.
Elegant, simple and functional
Modern antique
Matt Richmond's passion for the saxophone might have led to a career on stage, had the act of studying music not taken the fun out of playing his instrument. After shifting his focus to microbiology, he found that hours spent in the library overshadowed his love for tinkering in the lab.
Everyone who saw the original wanted one of their own. Soon, by virtue of word of mouth and the Internet, Matt had more orders than he could possibly fill. After handcrafting nearly a hundred, Matt refined the design and determined exactly the combination of horn shape and wood type that works best, and that would allow him to replicate it on a larger scale.
And finally, while industrial design tapped his life-long desire to know how things work –“Since I was a kid, the first thing I’d do when I got something new was to take it apart” – his graduate studies deconstructing toasters and hair dryers proved not nearly as interesting as the modern furniture he began collecting on the side.
The Gramophone from Restoration Hardware is based on that very first horn Matt found in an East Bay antique store, a Magnavox metal speaker from the 1920s. The base is crafted from solid walnut, for good looks, horn-balancing heft, and bright, fullrange sound.
So, ultimately, Matt left school and devoted himself to furniture design. But it wasn’t until he walked into an antique store near San Francisco that all of his interests and aptitudes finally, and brilliantly converged.
“It’s not overpowering, so it’s great in the background,” Matt says. “And it’s directional – you can point the horn where you want the sound. If you put it in a corner it’ll really fill a room.”
He crafted a base for that first horn – a clean-lined piece of hardwood, carved with a slot for his phone, a hole for the horn, and an internal channel to conduct sound from one to the other, with no plug or battery required.
It doesn’t sound like a conventional stereo, he adds, and that’s the beauty of it. “There’s something about listening to a record on an old phonograph…it doesn’t have the fidelity of a CD or MP3 but it evokes a feeling. It’s the same with this. It’s about eliciting a feeling.”

The Project: Design Vintage
The Designer: Luca Scopel
It is difficult to consider Cykno as a bicycle; Cykno is an eclectic vehicle, which was designed to meet the needs for mobility although maintaining a low environmental impact. Vintage style design, innovative and fine materials combined with a precise made in Italy technology and production.
Luca Scopel, engineer and designer, lives in Milan and specialises in the development of luxury concepts and products. He has always been passionate about engines and therefore studied at the Politecnico in Milan in mechanical engineering, with a first professional experience at the Fiat Advanced Design Center.
Cykno is the result of an idea – a dream – of Bruno Greppi, a great engineer and innovator in the motorbike field, in collaboration with Luca Scopel a designer who is specialised in the development of concept and luxury products. Cykno is the tangible outcome resulting from the collaboration between Gianpietro Vigorelli and Riccardo Lorenzini, gurus of Italian advertising over the past 30 years.
Later, he worked with motorcycle design at Moto Guzzi and after having faced the issue of luxury on two wheels in the project about the new California 1400 touring model, he decided to change industries and dedicate himself to interior & furniture design, first as a designer and brand developer for luxury made in Italy brands.
Cykno is an exemplary and a technically highperformance vehicle, with a refined style and an ecofriendly soul capable of satisfying the most demanding and elegant clientele. 1 Cykno Bikes Vintage Electric Eikes
Cykno is a unique and precious solution for an evolved and conscious clientele, who contemplate sustainable mobility issues.

Currently he is product manager for the luxury interiors brand Visionnaire (IPE Cavalli group) where he applies the concepts of fashion and glamour design to a total look which goes from interior architecture design, furniture design, accessories, lighting design, domotics and pieces of art, to creating a purely exclusive all inclusive design.

The education sector is a key specialism and during the summer the completion of a large upgrade project at a School in Frimley, Surrey was marked by the attendance of Michael Gove at the official opening. The team were also honoured by HRH the Duke of Kent who was guest of honour at the unveiling of a further project completed by Bennington Green at Superior Seals, a very large employer based in Ferndown, Dorset. Looking forward to 2014 – Bennington Green are managing the delivery of a high profile education project in Bournemouth which involves the complete design and project management of a brand new school. Offering a wide range of services from project management and building surveying to quantity surveying and the resolution of multimillion pound international construction disputes, Bennington Green is based in Bournemouth but operates throughout the whole of the UK and also internationally from their central London office in Grosvenor Square.
Currently they have a mixture of residential and commercial projects on the go, stretching from the famous Sandbanks peninsula right up to Runcorn in the North West with new projects and instructions being received every day. Even before the government announced glimmers of hope in the economy, last year saw the Bennington Green staff numbers increase by 30% and 2014 has already seen a demand for more staff. They’re certainly off to a flying start already with an additional Building Surveyor being taken on since the beginning of this year. New members to the team are a new office manager, an experienced architectural designer specialising in retail planning who has joined the East of England team. A new CAD designer has been working in the business since the middle of last year to design an exciting new school project in Bournemouth. An overseas placement student has also been working in their offices to see how the true professionals operate!

Forward thinking Ryan Greening, one of the directors, passed his MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution in 2013 which just adds to his long list of all ready enviable qualifications. Nigel Soloman, Managing Director, said: “With Ryan’s exceptional knowledge of the construction industry it comes as no surprise to us all at Bennington Green that he has achieved this and just goes to prove this firm’s high calibre staff.” Ryan was also invited at the end of last year to become a regular contributor to Building Magazine. Bennington Green are proud to be sponsoring many events across the year to support local and national events. These include the annual beach polo at Sandbanks Beach, the Bournemouth Air Festival VIP hospitality section and main sponsorship of the historic candlelight nights in Bournemouth's lower gardens in August. As a forward thinking company they regularly invest in the future and last year sponsored the Young Executives Club drinks at The Print Room in Bournemouth. It was the largest turn out for the Club and proved a phenomenal success.
3
Nigel said, “It was great to see so many young professionals out on the networking scene, so we agreed to also sponsor the March drinks event.” As a firm they support charities too and held their annual garden party at The Grove Hotel which is run by MacMillan Caring Locally. The beautiful facility provides support for people with terminal illnesses and their families to get away to the seaside. All proceeds from the garden party were donated to the hotel. Bennington Green became involved with the charity when they project managed the original development of the site in 2010.

She is planning to exhibit her aviation-themed designs in the Southern Home Show at London’s Alexandra Palace. Mrs Ali, whose parents own the Taj Mahal restaurant in Bridport, has had to juggle work with caring for her young family. But after studying at the British College of Interior Design she has launched her new business, Allure Interiors, and hopes to bring her quirky designs to a wide audience. She said: “The business is still very new and I am trying to build a brand. It is the sort of thing that no one else is doing at the moment and I am hoping that it will appeal to lots of people."

Once upon a tile
Florian Tiles have been producing high quality hand-decorated ceramic wall tiles since the 1960's in Dorset, England.
History
The process
Florian Tiles are a family run business specialising in producing unusual and imaginative designs on tiles, using well known and local artists. These are mainly wall tiles for kitchens and bathrooms and can also be made into gift items such as tea pot stands, table mats, clocks and pictures.
They first make a silk screen from the original artwork, individually hand-screen-print onto a bisque tile and hand-paint with underglaze ceramic colours.
Included amongst their commissions are special tiles made to match a Pugin wall paper for a Speaker of the House of Commons' apartment, two large tile panels at Dorchester Railway Station for the local brewery, and two further panels for the Children's Unit at Dorchester Hospital. They were also commissioned to design a series of tiled columns for a hotel swimming pool project in New Milton.
The tile is then coated with a transparent glaze and fired at over 1000 degrees centigrade in their kiln. This traditional method produces a rich and subtle effect of colour not possible with transfers.

The interior design process
SMB Interior Design is a Dorset-based interior design consultancy that offers clients – residential and commercial – tailored interior design packages to meet their personal décor and space planning requirements.
Free Initial Consultation - A designer will visit your home to discuss your requirements and plan a design strategy. The first hour of any consultation is complimentary.
Designer Shona Bates believes that successful interior design is the creation of individual, bespoke spaces that intrinsically suit the users of those spaces stylishly, comfortably and practically. "We don’t push our tastes or current fashion trends on our clients – we offer solutions that are in harmony with our clients’ own lifestyle needs, desires and objectives." SMB use a broad range of interior design services to produce appropriate design strategies. A client’s needs can be as simple as choosing a colour scheme for one room to a complete renovation project of a period property, space planning an office layout to a full interior scheme for a boutique hotel.
Design package – A detailed proposal is prepared that outlines the client's requirements, the proposed strategy and the interior design services required. From that SMB prepares mood boards, CAD plans and lighting plans and visits to discuss samples and selections in order to finalise the scheme. A cost estimate is prepared. Project management – SMB will source all materials and contractors, prepare briefs and work schedules, manage the budget and oversee the completion of the project Completion – Rooms can be dressed if required, furniture positioned, object d'art sourced etc. On completion of the project SMB will provide the client with a full breakdown of all materials used for future reference.

Remoulding the past & reshaping the future Due to ever increasing importance to recycle & protect the environment, these products are made from 100% recycled plastic which is the perfect alternative to wood.
1
Fantastic plastic
What can the plastic be used for?
Plastic has many practical & very useful properties & has an infinite range of different uses, some of which being are as decking, fencing, outdoor furniture, planters, boardwalks, landscaping, bollards, signage & construction etc. The list of possibilities is endless and the long-term advantages it has over traditional materials are staggering!
The manufactured plastic has many practical and very useful properties. The main base of our products are in the form of planks and posts. These can be used for fences in your garden, along road sides and around fields just to name a few. It is also possible to produce a number of other products out of our plastic, such as varied sized picnic tables, park benches, planters, and decking... the possibilities are endless.
The concept of Reformed Plastics was born 15 years ago from the curiosity of its founder. Being an engineer by profession, and having had his own UPVC Windows business, and also being the practical and inquisitive person that he is, one day he decided to find out what was really happening to the waste that people were so freely throwing away. His research and interest lead him to focus on plastics, how it can be recycled and what it could be reused for. He discovered that the USA & a few European countries had been recycling and remanufacturing waste plastics into alternative timber products for many years, instead of throwing it all into landfill. Over time, slowly but surely he developed a few basic products in the form of planks and posts and very soon he began to receive interest from people wanting to know more about this revolutionary product that is both an environmentally friendly alternative to normal timber and sustainable which means it will save them a lot of money in the long term. From then on, the rest as they say is history.
Does it need to be cleaned? Products only need to be cleaned after a spillage. The collection of airborne dirt is inevitable and we would recommend a simple spray-down with a hose or wipe over with a damp cloth on a regular basis to ensure that your purchase is kept in the best condition.
Financial benefits Value for money is a key driver for any purchase. Although some recycled products have greater up-front cost, their longevity make them a cost-effective option long term.
How strong is it? It is extremely solid and strong being able to withstand stress levels of well over 10 tons. It is heavy, durable, virtually indestructible and will not need to be replaced.
101
2
Is there a colour choice? Yes. Our main colours are black, brown and green. However, we can produce products to a choice of colours. This removes the need for painting & staining.
Why are recycled plastic products different? 3
Plastic lumber is the perfect alternative to anything that has ever needed maintaining. Plastic lumber can be cut with a regular saw, drilled, nailed or screwed into and routed as easily as wood.
• Does not rot • Will not need painting or staining • Is wear resistant
• Resistant to vandalism • Resistant to salt water • Resistant to insects and bacteria

• Quality Decking, Fencing & Furniture • 100% Recycled Plastic • Can be worked with like wood • Does Not rot, split or splinter • Strong, Durable & Weather Resistant • Maintenance Free & lasts over 40 years! • Local, Friendly Family run business • Unique, High Quality Personal Service • Nationwide Delivery

Road Test:
Introducing the Rolls Royce Wraith
104
The Collection
Whatever you do, don't call Rolls-Royce's new Wraith a two-door Ghost. Refined comfort and injected excitement
Down to the last detail
The Goodwood-based maker of super luxury cars is understandably keen to stress that the differences between the two cars are more than skin deep.
Visually, the Wraith possesses a number of clever details to ensure it stands out in an otherwise conservative market, from the car's subtly recessed trademark grille to the eye-catching elongated door handles.
1 Rolls Royce Wraith Rear View
2 Rolls Royce Wraith Fine Lines
In a bid to attract the attention of younger, but equally well-heeled buyers as for its flagship Phantom and Ghost ranges, a two-door coupe was envisioned as the best approach. And, according to company bosses, while the Wraith's focus remains firmly on the side of comfort and refinement, it's also been tasked to inject a little extra excitement into the driving experience.
The rounded rump also does much to flatter its not inconsiderable footprint. Although, being a Rolls-Royce, it's always going to be wider and taller than your average luxury car, the upside is most obvious when sat in the back. The Wraith might be a two-door coupe but it's also a genuine four-seater. The car's oversize doors help with access and there's no problem getting comfortable once inside.
For all this talk of separating Ghost from Wraith, at an engineering level the latter does share much with the former. The basic platform and powertrain can indeed be traced back to the Ghost, although that's where the similarities end.
From the two-tone exterior - fancy a sparkling blue base and silver roof? - to the near endless possibilities inside, there's scope for buyers young and old. And then there's the generous application of wood covering the inside of the car's doors. If you needed any further proof that you're comfortably in 'no expense sparred' territory, this is it. There's also a certain 'don't spare the horses' approach with the Wraith's performance.

Power to the limit Power isn't everything in the Wraith universe but it sure does help. When you want to waft you can do it with ease; the eight-speed auto gearbox always manages to be in the right gear at the right time. Factor in Rolls-Royce's trademark fingertip-light steering and even the tightest of turns in a crowded city environment are a doddle. That all this can be done without any hint of engine or tyre noise shattering the serenity of the cabin ambience is another reason why the Wraith is a cut above the mainstream - and cheaper - opposition. But it's that promise of brisk performance that's likely to appeal to buyers wanting to take the helm on a regular basis. There's no question the Wraith can shift when you're in the mood. Thanks to light but communicative controls, its size is no barrier to enjoyment on sinuous country roads - it all boils down to driver confidence. Ride comfort at speed keeps Rolls-Royce's reputation intact, while its agility belies its size.
Overall, the Wraith delivers on its maker's claims that it's a convincing continent-crosser, leaving you just as refreshed at the end of journey as when you started. However, lean on the Wraith's ample power reserves and you uncover a more boisterous side to this luxocoupe. Replete with bellowing exhaust and hunkered down stance, comparisons of iron fists inside velvet gloves are appropriate. Glamorous in a way the Ghost is conservative, and driver-focused in a way unmatched elsewhere in the premium luxury market, it's Rolls-Royce's successful attempt at connecting with the creators of the Facebook generation.

The only way for your driveway Colourstone use resin bound & bonded screed systems that offer longevity, strength & durability.
Enticing designs Resins have evolved dramatically over the past 10 years - we now use Alaphatic Polymer Resins which are stable to UV light (sunlight) whereas the only resins previously available were Epoxy resins which are very very strong and ideal for interior use ( & still are used for this) but are not suitable for exterior use due to their inability to tolerate sunlight. Some companies still use Epoxy resins or inferior resins that are not suitable for the purpose intended, resulting in a poor finish that just will not last. Our Pu resins are specially formulated to a high standard to guarantee durability & strength required - the resins can also be tailored for specific uses & requirements. (Technical data on our resins available on request) Simon Britton, MD, has over 25 years experience in Resin flooring screeds & has undertaken many large projects both domestic & commercial including anti skid ColourBonded system on roads (all resins HAPAS approved), anti slip coatings & self levelling compounds for warehouses & Industrial areas as well as large country house projects and private residences throughout the UK & Europe & recently a large project for a Russian Client in Moscow.
Colourstone undertake any sized projects & use mechanical "Hover Trowel" system to lay large areas in a fraction of the time it takes to lay by hand. Previously, Simon & his team would hand trowel all Resin ColourBound screeds and could accomplish approx 100m2 a day each layer - Now use Hover Trowel & can lay up to 300-600m2 per day on larger projects. Due to its porous nature, ColourBound Screed complies to SUDS ( Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) planning compliance when used in conjunction with porous Tarmac substrate. This makes it modern, stylish & bespoke yet planning permissable & quick to design & lay. It has also been tested to withstand extreme high & low temperatures & does not "pot hole" like tarmac following copious amounts of rain, making it highly suitable for our great British weather!
119
Simon Britton, Managing Director SIMON’s introduction into the floor screeding business began in 1993 when he joined epoxy products ltd. He completed many projects involving large industrial floor coatings & demarcations, mortar screeds, heavy duty screeds & non slip coatings. It was at Epoxy Products that he was first introduced to the Resin Bound Screed System which he now specialises in. Simon is based in the South of UK but covers from Kent to Cornwall on a regular basis for commercial companies & civil engineers though covers areas throughout the UK & Europe. Simon is very much “hands on” & prides himself in always ensuring a customers peace of mind & that a job runs smoothly & with as little disruption as possible.
Recipes of colour that last The design team can help with Bespoke designs including patterns, logos, borders & lighting to create that individual look - ( ie. Bentley or Porche logo in your garage floor or your company logo). Interior quartz & beautiful marble stones are also available for interior stone ColourCarpet - giving a seamless, non slip extremely beautiful, glamorous look in neutral tones of marble or any British Standard colour quartz. This interior flooring provides perfect finish for swimming pool & spa surrounds as the screed itself is porous therefore allowing the perfect drainage solution.

Spencers of the New Forest The Collection
1232
We are very proud to serve the beautiful New Forest. Selling and letting the most exclusive properties in this area is what we do best.
Spencers of the New Forest was formed in 2010, following the merger of two successful businesses in the villages of Brockenhurst and Burley. Later that year we added a third office in the market town of Ringwood and in spring 2013 we opened our doors in Lymington. In our industry it’s still true that nothing beats a personal service, so with branches in four prominent locations across the area and an experienced team who live and breathe the Forest we have grown quickly and developed a reputation for a down-to-earth, friendly approach to doing business. We specialise in the sale and letting of village, town and equestrian properties across the National Park and surrounds. But we’re not just about houses. Ours is first and foremost a people business – we recruit and train the best professionals and expect the highest standards on behalf of our clients. Our ambition – to continue to build an independent estate agency of which the Forest can be proud.

THE LONDON LINK DIRECTORS ALAN MOULD AND MARK YOUNGMAN TAKE A TRIP TO TOWN AND BACK…
The New Forest is neither new nor by any means covered in woodland (less than half of it in fact) – just two of the many little quirks that give our stunning home its distinctive personality. Spencers have traded here since 2006 and we discover something new and beautiful on our travels across the Forest every day. Four-legged inhabitants have roamed at will here since 1079, when William the Conqueror designated his ‘Nova Foresta’ a royal hunting ground. This saw the start of a rather special connection between London and the Forest, a connection that still sees city and country living in well-connected harmony. The weekday 7.03 from Brockenhurst deposits its travellers at Waterloo in good time for start of business. Familiar faces, some who take the same seat five working days a week. Others make the trip just once or twice a week and work mostly from home – a 38,000 hectare national park in south-west Hampshire. Surely they miss the buzz of the city?
Sam and Kev Bulmer (with children Will, 4 and Erin, almost 2) have just moved down to Brockenhurst after a focused and fruitful property search. Kev commutes every day and Sam, a selfemployed residential interior designer, plans to build her business locally. With an admirable renovation project ahead, Sam’s connections with the area started early with family holidays and Kev has family in Lymington. Beyond the key criteria of an easy commute to town and a range of excellent schooling options for the kids, the quality of life outdoors in the Forest made the move an easy choice. What might she miss about London? Sam makes the point beautifully – whilst parts of the Forest offer a true country lifestyle, the location and range of activities and facilities mean a taste of ‘townie life’ is never far away for those who wish to seek it out. The family want to build a life somewhere they won’t feel like ‘city interlopers.’ Just a week after picking up the keys to their new home, Sam feels at home.
Spencers has tailored its approach to marketing clients’ properties accordingly. Of course, there remains much ‘property mobility’ in the area by born and bred Foresters who have been here all their lives. However, whereas a few years ago we might have expected certain properties to appeal to an ‘extown demographic’, perhaps nearing the end of their London working life and looking to retire to the country, these days we are targeting a far broader range of prospective purchasers to properties, many of whom have London as their current base. From overseas investor to retiring ex-pat, weekend bolthole hunter to young family and city worker, the Forest and bordering coast is very much on their search radar. Perhaps the 2007 financial crunch sparked a degree of life appraisal for those who had thought London would be their long-term base?
SPECIALISTS IN THE SALE & LETTING OF TOWN, VILLAGE AND COUNTRY HOMES FROM FOREST TO COAST
Bob Bickersteth, Principal at The London Office (who handle our property marketing and press work in town) explains the allure of the New Forest to the London market:
“Lifestyle changes facilitated by technology mean people have realised they don’t need to be within the traditional 45 minute commuter belt. I see many clients who are putting quality of life above proximity to workplace and ‘London schooling’. They have done their research and know that the New Forest is an easy road or rail journey to London and still boasts an unspoilt and slightly magical way of life. Frankly, there aren’t that many places that can offer four mainline railway stations as well as such blissful National Park tranquillity at the heart of the south of England. I sell the New Forest as a bit of a ‘haven’, but with West End access in a little over 90 minutes.” What matters to Spencers’ vendors is how we tap in to this market. The calendar starts well before spring, as

Londoners looking to re-locate with schooling in mind will start their search early – for this reason we recommend that anyone looking to come to market in 2014 takes the local bull by the horns and contacts us whilst New Year festivities are still fresh. In spring we take the country to town, featuring our clients’ properties at the Move to the Country Show, hosted by The London Office. We also advertise in carefully selected London property publications such as Country & Townhouse, targeted at town-dwellers who might be looking down the all-important M3 corridor to make their escape to the country. Above all we listen carefully to our London applicants looking for their Forest property. Be it excellent schooling, hobbies such as sailing or walking, traditional village life, hotels that give London luxury a run for its money or quick access to Bournemouth or Southampton, the Forest delivers it all. country estates with grazing rights, there is something for every kind of country escape plan. As the early evening train leaves Southampton and heads for the Forest tranquillity descends in the carriage. There’s nowhere quite like home.

Location story
Nautical influences style
Just an hour on the train South West from London Victoria and you will reach West Wittering. A sleepy sort of place that feels entirely built for holiday retreats and lazy weekends by the British Seaside.
The collection this coming season has been inspired by the architecture of boats, admiralty charts and sails as well as the vintage era of the 1950s, when sailing became a glamorous pastime.
Proudly boasting one of the UK's best beaches, the extensive acres of neatly mown grass close to the beach and perfect for picnics, the sea is popular for wind and kite surfers, while shallow lagoons and extensive sandy flats ante perfect for photo shoots.
We wanted to capture that feeling of fighting against the wind and the waves, against the elemental forces which can be so strong out at sea and not givingin to them.
With a Witterings local as part of the team, we accesses the best locations, trained in the best places and went to the best pubs. Yoga practice on a rustic jetty and beachside morning runs got us through long days shooting.

Creative Home Engineering is an engineering design firm and manufacturer of fully-automated hidden passageways just like those seen in the movies. They provide their clients with custom security on the cutting edge. Even though these secret doors can be fitted with ultra-heavy duty locks, hinges, and armor plating, their greatest security attribute is that they are totally hidden. As company founder Steven Humble puts it, “A thief can’t burglarize a room if he doesn’t know it’s there.” As a mechanical engineer, Humble had already designed robotic systems for the aviation, medical, and home automation industries when he came up with the idea for a company specialising in secret passageways for homes. No company at the time offered to create Hollywood-style hidden features for real-life people. So Humble set out to create a new industry, even going so far as to have the registrar of contractors create a new contractor’s license classification just for him. Now, just ten years later, his company has done work all over the world for client including Royalty, heads-of-state, celebrities, Fortune 500 entrepreneurs, and professional athletes. He has appeared on television programs including ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Addition,” HGTV’s “I Want That,” the History Channel's “Modern Marvels” and CNBC’s “On the Money.” to name just a few. Creative Home Engineering has also been featured in numerous international news publications like the New York Times and London Times, as well as dozens of magazines such as Popular Mechanics, Home an Garden, and Forbes. “At Creative Home Engineering, there is no fantasy,” says Humble. “You dream it, we build it.” Clients have requested devices ranging from rotating fireplaces, moving staircases and levitating pool tables, to covert escape slides, spinning wine racks, and emergency exits disguised as fine furniture.
143
The finest detailing Many of these secret features are designed specifically for retrofit into existing homes, so clients can make unused bedrooms or storage rooms into super secret hideaways. Jaws drop when people see these features in operation - so much so that most homeowners can’t resist the temptation to show them off to their friends. Every detail is meticulously considered so that the finished project blends perfectly into the surrounding dÊcor. Features can be activated by any means the client wishes, such as twisting a candlestick, selecting a favorite book title from the library shelf, moving a chess piece to the right position, or even knocking on the wall in Morse code. Biometric security devices like fingerprint readers and iris scanners ensure that only a privileged few may enter. Ordinary homes aren’t featured in magazines and they never become the talk of the neighborhood. For those interested in putting an elite home on the market, a secret passage can be just the thing to set it apart from the others in the neighborhood.

Q&A with Webb Homes
We have been on the market for 12 weeks with our current agent and not sold, what do we do?
Why would clients choose Webb Homes to sell their property?
How quickly can I sell my home as we have found something online we like?
I like to think dealing with the owner of the business from start to finish when purchasing a property is a great reason, but here are a few more... Unlike other sales agents we don’t take on as many properties as possible, only providing a great service for a few weeks then going quiet. This drives sellers crazy! Providing no feedback is a sure way to lose instructions. I work hard to keep in touch with my clients, letting them know upfront what is going on with their home.
There are many ways to sell your home, and if certain rules are applied it should take days rather than months.
How can I improve the chances of selling my home? One great way to improve selling your home is making sure your agent has good photographs. Clients can work with their agent making sure their home is free from clutter. Clear work surfaces and tidy rooms will ensure more viewings.
What is the difference between a Sole agency and Multiple agency contract? A sole agency contract is between you and the agent. Your agent is the Sole Company responsible for selling your home. A sole agency contract gives your agent a set amount of time to sell your property. His fee would be cheaper than a multiple agency contract given the fact you are trusting him alone to sell your property.
1 – Using an experienced agent is key to ensure that your home is priced correctly and doesn't attract timewasters. 2 – Light & bright photos that do your property justice, good descriptions of rooms including dimensions and key features is a sure way to promote your property in the correct way. 3 – Ensuring good communication, constant updates and working together to overcome any problems that may arise.
How much will it cost me to sell my home? Agents generally charge 1.5% commission of the agreed sales price. Most agents will negotiate on their cost to secure your property. Be careful when considering 1% commission offers. In my experience this can lead to poor marketing strategies and lengthy time on the market due to lack of exposure. Remember "you get what you pay for".
Multiple agency contracts are when you instruct a number of Estate agents to sell your property. This is sometimes useful for large amounts of viewings but can lead to over exposure and this can put buyers off thinking there is something wrong with your property. You will also be charged a much higher commission as your agent is now up against a number of other competitors. Webb Homes recommends sole agency. If your agent prices your house correctly and knows the area well they will have the correct clients for your home.

A new dimension of manufacturing
Print the twin of your kind.
The process of the making of a figurine.
Being a mixture between photo booth and digital manufactory, Twinkind has just opened doors with a brand new product. With 3D photo figurines, also known as mini twins, a very organic result of a range of hightech applications, Twinkind has started to offer its services to the public in mid of June 2013.
After individual bookings and the arrival at our first studio in Hamburg, Twinkind will do a number of 3D scans until the customer is happy with her or his pose and expression.
2 Twinkind 3D Lifelike Figures
That’s Twinkind
1 Twinkind 3D Mini Me
Blazing fast and brand new. Full 3D body scans faster than the blink of an eye.
Twinkind believe 3D photo figurines will become a serious alternative to “conventional” portraits. Part of the fascination is certainly the tactile experience - something hardly given by any other photography-related media. They can transfer a stunning level of details into the figurines. Drapes on the clothes will be found, as much as facial expressions or the texture of the hair. But furthermore: A 3D photo figurine is an actual sculpture and by changing its surroundings it becomes an art work. It’s one moment in time, “rememberable” from every angle. It’s the literal you. It’s your husband, your girlfriend or your dog. It’s you as your favorite Sci-Fi hero. It’s whoever you want it to be.
The scanning itself only takes an ultra-short split of a second. This technology makes it possible to even scan pets like dogs and cats with the same ease as humans (dogs usually ask for goodies though to offer their pose.) They have custom-developed a way to utilize and combine technologies based on photogrammetry principles which are still very new and are considered to be the future of 3D body scanning. From the gentlemen´s club to children, pregnant mothers, babies, the elderly - everybody can get a mini-me of themselves or as a unique present for someone else. All you have to do is visit them in their studio and bring a little bit of time to be guided through the process.

Kristina Neurohr & Timo Schaedel The founders of Twinkind consist of Kristina Neurohr and Timo Schaedel. Kristina is co-owner of creative agency Lux von Morgen. Timo has been developing and directing international commercials for clients such as Panasonic, Audi or Fiat, amongst many other creative enterprises, too. After founding their own production and post environment and although they love what they are doing, it was always tempting for them to combine their knowledge and start-up yet another new idea. This time they wanted to develop a physical product, that they would be excited about themselves. The very moment they decided to follow this route, they were not yet aware of other ongoing developments. But when Kristina and Timo heard of a great project from Japan, they actually felt inspired and encouraged to take an idea already existing in their minds to the next level. 2

Seamlessly emerging from scientific obscurity you could be forgiven for underestimating just quite how integral these remarkable machines may be in shaping the way we look at manufacturing Printing in 3D had long been reserved for scientists and trained technicians.
The field of photography reported that the first ever 3D printed SLR camera, The Openflex, was created last month. This coincided with the unveiling of the first ever printed lens, made from polished acrylics, meaning an entire camera can now be created from scratch.
Not anymore. A host of new machines makes this remarkable technology accessible and affordable to the wider public, offering endless manufacturing possibilities which also come with a whole host of dangers, giving rise to the new concept of bedroom factories.
A company in the US, 'Defence Distributed', contentiously launched the worlds first printable gun, the Liberator in May this year. Despite containing a small metal firing pin, the gun is completely undetectable by metal detectors, making it easily transportable through security scanners. This dangerous use of 3D printing technology has proven so groundbreaking that legislators in the UK and USA have not yet been able to react to these weapons, and there is no legal precedent to prevent their manufacture or distribution.

The capabilities of 3D printers are truly astounding.
The technological breakthrough into 3D printing also promises to revolutionise a multitude of industries. In the field of healthcare, facial prosthetics can be produced quickly and on-mass, tailor-made by computers to the specifications of those who need them. Artificial organs could be made readily available to thousands of people reducing waiting lists. MRI and CT scan images can be printed to highlight the extent of a fracture or even take a first proper glimpse at your unborn child.
3D printing may yet prove to be one of the greatest breakthroughs of the 21st century, offering endless possibilities that will no doubt influence all of our lives in the coming decades. Printers are continuously falling in price, with consumer aimed ones ranging from ÂŁ500ÂŁ5000. These printers are becoming far more consumer friendly and simple to use, rendering the possibility of owning your own 3D printer a truly realistic one.

Winkworth Westbourne
Winkworth Westbourne market analysis 2013/2014 Winkworth Westbourne have just celebrated their third year serving the housing needs of Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding areas and enjoyed continued success throughout 2013. Having recognised the importance of having direct links with London and the Home Counties, Winkworth Westbourne have capitalised on the excellent relationships they have built with the their London Offices. Having sold many properties this year to buyers who have been referred from both Central London Offices and those in the suburbs of London and surrounding areas, this ever-growing market has helped Winkworth Westbourne celebrate their best year to date with sales figures far exceeding all targets. Partner, Ben Jesty reports on the market during 2013 and outlines his predictions for 2014:
1 Rolls RoyceWestbourne Wraith Winkworth Image 1 branch in Westbourne Flagship
2 Winkworth Westbourne Ben Jesty, Partner
2013 saw ongoing improvement in the UK property market, with government initiatives such as the Funding for Lending Scheme and Help to Buy signaling the intent to support home ownership in the run up to the next election in 2015. These initiatives have already had a positive impact on mortgages, reducing the cost of borrowing and increasing availability for the first time buyer. As mortgage costs fall for both the homeowner and the buy-to-let investor, I envisage that prices will continue to move up during 2014. Cheaper mortgages, greater job security and improved employment prospects will underpin the family house market, a sector that has suffered over recent years. Government schemes which supported professional buying in the mid to lower end of the housing market are now feeding through to greater activity at the upper end. I believe that in 2014, many that have held off buying in this area and kept their money in London, will look to take advantage of the value gap that has opened up and make a lifestyle choice to move out of London or invest in property in this area. There have also been many who have been unable to move locally whether it be to upsize, downsize or relocate due to reasons such as strict mortgage criteria, their homes being in negative equity or lack of job security holding them back. These issues have been relieved for many, which is likely to enable them to

make their move during 2014. Consequently, we expect to see greater demand here with my prediction being an increase of some 15% in activity level and a price growth of around 5% in 2014. We enjoyed our most successful year to date in 2013 with completed sales figures at the end of the second quarter, exceeding total sales figures for the whole of the previous year. We saw an increase in sale instructions of over 30% year on year and buyer registrations were up by 21%. We have high hopes for 2014 and have invested heavily in our IT systems, brand new LED window displays in our prominent high street office in Westbourne and have increased our advertising budgets to ensure our client’s properties receive the best possible exposure. This, coupled with the expansion of our highly experienced sales team will help in providing the first class service for which we are renown for and will ensure we remain the area’s leading agent. Should you be considering buying or selling throughout 2014, please contact Winkworth Westbourne to discuss your requirements.

Bury Road, Branksome Park, Poole The area of Branksome Park is set within the borough of Poole and benefits from a sylvan park like setting, as well as being in very close proximity to picturesque beaches. The clients brief was to create a five bedroom contemporary house, with open plan living and areas of quiet and relaxation. The house was to be a dynamic home and also required level access for ailing family members. It was essential that the design embraced the most recent suitable Eco technologies.

The shape is further enhanced by the interplay of large stone clad panels around the open plan kitchen/dining/living areas. Specially made curved aluminium sliding doors enhance the curved internal accommodation, whilst complimenting the exterior form.
The corner nature of the site meant that the design needed to incorporate two main facades with street frontages. The house is sited closer to the two front boundaries, ensuring that the building has a sense of prominence, with ample landscaping to the front and side.
The design has resulted in a striking, energy efficient family home, achieving all of the clients aspirations and winner at the What House? Awards 2013 for “Best Luxury Homeâ€? in the UK‌.
Upon entering the property, there is a large double volume hallway with views through to a water feature and the rear garden beyond. The internal accommodation flows from the central spine of the house, doors are taken full length to the high ceilings, creating a sense of luxury. The house is flooded with natural light, feature windows and flows with luxurious open plan living. A variety of finishes enhance the curved structure of the building to the ground floor accommodation. A strong horizontal aluminium fascia at ground floor level defines the main form of the building. Craftsmen in paint and paper, Farrow & Ball, unveil four distinctive new wallpaper patterns.
1 Farrow & Ball Jasmine BP 3901
2 Farrow & Ball Jasmine BP 3904
3 Farrow & Ball Parquet BP 4104
Enticing designs Capturing rustic elements and adding a contemporary twist on classics designs, the latest additions to the collection embrace nature and timeless style. Each of the four papers is available in five colourways, from nourishing neutrals to impactful and bold combinations. The enticing designs are the first to include Farrow & Ball’s new colours, from Stiffkey Blue with copper to the more muted hues of Mole’s Breath and Purbeck Stone, complemented by the classics of Cooking Apple Green with Green Smoke. In the same way as all Farrow & Ball wallpapers, the new additions are handcrafted using real paint giving them a uniquely tactile appearance, with metallic copper coloured paint used for the first time to stunning effect.
Ever since they were founded by paint pioneers John Farrow and Richard Ball, their passion for producing paint using only the finest ingredients and age-old production methods has remained at the heart of Farrow & Ball, right through to today. Their sumptuous paint colours are made using high levels of rich pigments to original recipes and their wallpapers are hand crafted using their own paints and traditional printing methods. They make everything locally at their factory in Dorset, England, home to Farrow & Ball since its beginnings. Each and every batch is subjected to scrupulous testing to ensure that their Elephant’s Breath® is no Dead Salmon® and their wallpapers retain their uniquely tactile texture.

Jasmine A tropical display of the fragrant, leafy plant found in the warmer climes, this print has been taken from the Farrow & Ball archives and reinvented with new colour combinations that are both classic and contemporary.
Samphire The perfect celebration of this delicate, wild plant, that thrives on our British coastline. Farrow & Ball has injected new life into an archived design, creating a tantalising pattern which is both small and fascinating.
Parquet A contemporary interpretation of the classic herringbone parquet floor. The pattern encompasses the grainy look of this traditional design, whilst bringing a new, almost tribal feel. Available in tone on tone and more dramatic three colour prints.
Chromatic Stripe A classic stripe will always demand attention. Trough printed, this stripe holds its own, with up to four colours featured at one time. Versatile and timeless, you can hang the paper horizontally, vertically, or reverse hang to create a bolder stripe double the width. The new papers have the signature depth of colour and delicacy of appearance of all Farrow & Ball wallpapers, which are made using real Farrow & Ball minimal VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) water based paints.

Buckholme Towers: on the road to success
Headmaster Iain Robertson explains: With an average of fourteen pupils per class the environment at Buckholme Towers is nurturing and expectations are high. Children learn best when they feel safe and happy, and they are happy when their efforts are recognised and rewarded; the more regularly this occurs, the happier and more motivated they are. Children in larger classes often feel overlooked, which can in turn lead to frustration and a ‘why should I bother?’ attitude. “At Buckholme we have a number of ways to raise pupils’ self-esteem and improve motivation. In the classroom it may be a simple thumbs up, pat on the back or a sticker in the book. We also operate a merit award system where pupils earn merits for themselves and their House. This is for achievements such as good behaviour, smart appearance, sporting accomplishments, manners and a positive contribution to the school community. At the end of term the House with the most merits is rewarded with a trip to the cinema or bowling. This promotes camaraderie and teamwork as well as motivating them to improve."
Buckholme Towers School and Nursery prides itself on rewarding pupils who go the extra mile.
175

Setting the bar high “There are merit badges and certificates presented in assemblies and recognition in the Headmaster’s weekly newsletter. Then there is the ultimate recognition, being awarded a cup at Speech Day and Prize Giving. Rewarding pupils in this way makes them more confident, raises self-esteem and encourages them to strive for even greater success". “The bar is set high at Buckholme and we strongly believe that students should be regularly and fairly rewarded for their achievements. This inspires and motivates them to accomplish their very best and become confident, independent learners. 'This in turn helps to raise the already high standards and supports good behaviour. It also encourages healthy competition amongst our pupils, something which many schools seem to be afraid of”.
177
Supporting your child to achieve success With yet another round of outstanding 11 plus scores to celebrate, Headmaster Iain Robertson talks about how assessment of pupil progress fits into the daily routine and how it is used to raise achievement. “We believe that assessment and testing has its place in the school curriculum as long as the results are used effectively. Monitoring children's progress should begin the moment they start school". “At Buckholme Towers School, the reason behind this is simple, if you don't know where a child is in their learning at any given point, how can you plan their next steps? The main two types of assessment are formative assessment, which is ongoing and is used to advise the pupil of the next steps by saying what is good about their work and how they can improve it, the second is summative assessment which might involve a test or exam where they are measured against success criteria". “We involve our students in the assessment of their own work. Even in the early stages we explain to them what the success criterion are for a task and what the learning outcomes should be. If they are clear on these things
before they start, they can review their own work and see how successful they've been in achieving the goals. Sometimes older children will review each other's work". 2013 was a difficult year in the history of Buckholme Towers, but the fire gave us a platform to shout about our pupils' outstanding achievements. Many parents are now looking for an alternative to the 'one size fits all' approach to education that most schools offer. With waiting lists for a number of our classes growing almost daily, it is clear that the tailored approach to meeting children's individual needs that Buckholme Towers offers is precisely that alternative. With a worrying shortage of school places in our area, parents cannot afford to hedge their bets on their children's education. At Buckholme Towers we offer tours of the school at any time; I am available to answer questions parents may have, and to take them into classrooms where they can experience first-hand the reasons why our pupils are so successful.
