gion,” Kristen Casselman, the WDMH Foundation’s managing director said in an email. “These dedicated fundraisers have raised both money and awareness for the importance of local health care close to home.” Over the years their membership – which amounted to 15 participants in their first year – ebbed and flowed, swelling to up to more than 50 members at its height and waning to 10 members by the end of its last year. Many of its former members are hospital staff, cancer survivors and the friends and family of those groups. As this year’s Heel ‘n Wheel event approached, the Heelers had raised $482, 000 and were prepared to close the gap with a strong final push. So they reached out to former team members and bade them come back for one last kick at the can. Fortified with some of its past participants, the team managed to raise the remaining $18,000 and then some. See Members, page 3

The Winchester Hospital Heelers have met their goal. Beginning in 2007 the Heelers pledged to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital, $500,000 for the purchase of a new digital mammography machine. This past September the Heelers presented thier final installment to the hospital. On Thursday, Nov. 19 members of the Heelers past and present celebrated their achievement at the hospital.
