Members of the Greely Pathways Committee hope that by the end of 2016, three stone dust paths will connect existing roads and pathways in Greely to form a 10 to 15 km bike network.
R0013192101-0326
A group of Greely residents has come up with a way to connect the community’s neighbourhoods using a 10 to 15 km bicycle network. Since last May, the Greely Pathways Committee has met monthly to devise the route, which will use existing streets and pathways, as well as new linkages through public and private property. “Greely is about 20 little neighbourhoods right now,” said Kristine van der Pas-Norenius, who heads the committee. “We’re one of the fastest growing communities in Ottawa and we have a population of about 10,000 people, but we’re disconnected. We’re separated. All our little neighbourhoods are separated by our big roads.” So the group has proposed building three linkages – one through Andy Shields Park, one through the Quinn Farm development and one to the northwest that was not confirmed as of the publishing of this story – that will connect the area’s existing paths and roadways to create a bike friendly loop. The loop will connect Greely neighbourhoods from Waddion Drive in the west, to Andy Shields Park in the east and from South Village Drive to the north, down to Scottanne Street. With help from Osgoode Coun. George Darouze, the group has received a green light from the city to build a path through Andy Shields Park, and van der Pas-Norenius said the owner of the Quinn Farm development has given the group permission to construct a path
there. Van der Pas-Norenius said Darouze has been instrumental in helping to make the bike route a reality. “We had a meeting with George and found out he was super supportive of this,” she said. “So he really made it important in his office and did a lot of work with the city to help make it happen.” Darouze confirmed in a meeting of the Greely Community Association on Dec. 9 that the city would commit $100,000 to the project, and would conduct traffic studies of some of the potentially problematic intersections the route will cross. “Every crossing will be designed and it will be signed by the city,” Darouze said. “So the major crossings like Stagecoach (Road), Old Prescott (Road), and Bank Street, these are crossings that we, the City of Ottawa permitted and we are looking for the funding for it so we can get it approved.” As for when Greely residents can expect to able to hit the stone dust path, van der Pas-Norenius said the linkages will have to be constructed in two phases, but hopes to begin work on the first phase by spring, 2016. “For sure we can do the south phase of the loop in the spring,” she said. “We’re hoping to get the actual construction part done (within) a month, and then we want to promote it to residents so in the second month we hope to get the map printed and distributed. Our wish list is to complete the whole loop next summer so everyone can use it. But who knows.”

Rideau Carleton Raceway Slots workers locked out amid labour dispute Megan DeLaire
mdelaire@metroland.com
Several dozen locked-out employees of the Rideau Carleton Raceway Slots marched outside of the casino on Dec. 16 as a labour dispute between their union
and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) entertainment centre boiled over. The group was a handful of the 124 gaming floor workers told not to come into work as of Dec. 16 when OLG management made the decision to
initiate a lockout, closing the gambling site down at 10 p.m. on Dec. 15 and reopening at noon on the next day. Among those workers locked out are parking attendants, housekeepers, slot attendants, slot techs, cashiers and money room clerks. Se-
NOTICE OF PASSING OF ZONING BY-LAWS BY THE CITY OF OTTAWA
TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the City of Ottawa passed By-law 2015-371 and 2015-372 on December 9, 2015, under Section 34 of the Planning Act. AND TAKE NOTICE that any person or public body who, before the by-laws were passed, made oral submissions at a public meeting or written submissions to City Council, may appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board with respect to either of the two by-laws, by filing with the Clerk of the City of Ottawa, a notice of appeal setting out the objection to the by-law and the reasons in support of the objection. An appeal must be accompanied by the Ontario Municipal Board’s prescribed fee of $125, which may be made in the form of a cheque payable to the Minister of Finance. A notice of appeal can be mailed to the City Clerk at 110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario, K1P 1J1, or by delivering the notice in person, to Ottawa City Hall, at the Information Desk in the Rotunda on the 1st floor, 110 Laurier Avenue West. A notice of appeal must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 13, 2016. Only individuals, corporations and public bodies may appeal a zoning by-law to the Ontario Municipal Board. A notice of appeal may not be filed by an unincorporated association or group. However, a notice of appeal may be filed in the name of an individual who is a member of the association or the group on its behalf. No person or public body shall be added as a party to the hearing of the appeal unless, before the by-law was passed, the person or public body made oral submissions at a public meeting or written submissions to the council or, in the opinion of the Ontario Municipal Board, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a party. Should the by-laws be appealed, persons or public bodies who wish to receive notice of the Ontario Municipal Board hearing can receive such notice by submitting a written request to the planner identified below. An explanation of the purpose and effect of the two by-laws and a description of the lands to which each by-law applies are included. Dated at the City of Ottawa on December 24, 2015. Clerk of the City of Ottawa City Hall 110 Laurier Avenue West Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1

EXPLANATORY NOTE TO BY-LAW 2015-372 By-law 2015-372 amends the City of Ottawa Zoning By-law 2008-250. curity, management and raceway staff are not locked out. The decision comes as the affected workers’ union, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), has worked since 2014 to ratify a collective agreement with more favourable terms than what the OLG is offering. Workers at RCR Slots have been without a contract since their previous contract expired in 2014. PSAC spokesman Larry Rousseau said that the Ottawa employees’ wages have not seen any increases since 2008, and are lower than workers at other OLG gambling sites. According to PSAC, Wages at OLG Woodbine in Toronto are 4.5 per cent higher than at Rideau Carleton and wages at OLG Brantford are between 8.2 and 8.8 per cent higher than at Rideau Carleton. “They say nothing about the amount of money that they’ve been taking in and the fact that this is a $2 billion corporation in profits,” Rousseau said. “There’s no freeze in the money that you’re taking in from the community, but there is a freeze in salaries. So that makes no sense.” Tony Bitonti, spokesman for OLG, said that the crown corporation is using language to discuss wages, benefits and pensions, that is consistent with the language used in negotiating collective agreements in 2014 and 15 in 13 locations across Ontario. Bitonti said that, currently, the Rideau Carleton union is the only one not to have ratified a collective agreement. “We have no other sites that are out or where there’s an impending strike or disruption,” he said. “This is the only one that we’re in a dispute with right now.” However, Bitonti did say that OLG had experienced similar labour disputes with workers in its Brantford, Woodbine and Sudbury sites earlier in the year. “We did have a small labour dispute with three sites in late summer, early fall, and those were ratified,” Bitonti said. Retired North Gower firefighter honoured by station renaming proposal Mdelaire@metroland.com
After half a century spent fighting fires for North Gower residents, recently retired volunteer firefighter Allen Sadler was moved to tears by the efforts of his fellow firefighters to honour him. In recognition of Sadler’s 50 years of community service, his dependable, approachable nature, and his willingness to help his fellow firefighters at station 83 in North Gower, one of those firefighters has asked the city to name the station after Sadler. “He’s sort of like an unspoken icon at the station. You couldn’t ask for a better person,” said Joe McLaughlin, a lieutenant at station 83 who submitted the proposal. “He’d never say ‘no’ to anybody, never turn anything down. He’s the first to say ‘yes.’ He’s the most modest person in the world and it didn’t matter whether it was the middle of February, minus 30, three in the morning. He’d be there.” The city announced the proposal to rename station 83, at 2352 Roger Stevens Dr., the Allen Sadler Fire Station in late November. McLaughlin said he first looked into the commemorative renaming two years ago, but was told he should wait until Sadler’s retirement from the station to submit such a request. When Sadler, 68, was informed last spring that he would need to retire as an

Retired North Gower volunteer firefighter Allen Sadler. active firefighter, it seemed like the perfect time to get the ball rolling. Forced retirement, McLaughlin said, can be a hard pill to swallow. “It doesn’t really matter how much you prepare somebody,” McLaughlin said. “We all have pagers and you try not to let work dictate how you live your life, but at the end of the day when your pager goes off, it’s automatic. You just sort of change gears, and it’s just kind of big to retire.”So McLaughlin filed the appropri-
ate paperwork, all the while keeping the secret more or less to himself, enlisting the help of a colleague and Sadler’s wife, Sharon, to collect background information about Sadler for the application, without giving away the surprise. Sadler said that by the time McLaughlin and Mark Perkins, another volunteer firefighter, visited him one evening to tell him about the proposal, the whole station knew. Sadler hadn’t seen it coming. “I had no idea what was going on,” Sadler said. “I was really surprised. It brought tears to my eyes.” Praise for his work ethic and selflessness is not new to Sadler, despite his humility. In 2005, members of the fire station voted Sadler the Station 83 Firefighter of the Year. In 2014, he received the District Firefighter of the Year award. “It’s not too hard to be a great firefighter here,” Sadler said. “You work with some really good guys. It’s a great bunch.” Throughout his years serving his community as a volunteer firefighter, Sadler has also gained prominence in North Gower for his work as a carpenter and proprietor of P.O. Sadler & Son, a company founded by his father in the late 1930s. Although now officially retired from working at the station, he still works full-time as a carpenter. With the renaming proposal now in its public feedback stage, McLaughlin has been busy making the rounds among friends and colleagues,
encouraging them to share their feelings about Sadler with the city. “We’re not trying to flood the city website or anything, just get anyone who knows him and thinks that they may want to make a comment,” he said. “Because everybody wants to be a part of it at the end of the day.” McLaughlin said the response has been heartening. “I can’t believe the support. People pretty much say it should have happened sooner.” Comments on the application to name fire Station 83 after Sadler are due by Jan. 25.For more information about the proposal or to submit a comment, view the proposal on the city’s website through the shortened web address http://goo. gl/7VLfRq.

By making a planned gift to CHEO you not only help future generations of children, but you also provide some tax relief to your estate, while still providing for your family members. Here are some ways you can create your Forever CHEO legacy: make a bequest in your Will; create an endowment fund; name CHEO as the beneficiary of your RRSPs or RRIFs; or take out a life insurance policy with CHEO as the beneficiary.
CONSIDER CREATING A TRULY LASTING LEGACY AND HELP TO ENSURE THAT CHEO IS FOREVER PART OF OUR COMMUNITY.
Your gift keeps on giving. Forever.

For more than 40 years our community has benefited from the care and medical expertise at CHEO. While some of us have thankfully never had to use CHEO, others have for minor or sometimes more serious issues. The one commonality we all share is a great respect and appreciation for CHEO. We want it to be here for our kids, our kids’ kids and beyond that. That is what Forever CHEO is all about!

Support your local merchants
A
s you’re planning your Boxing Day shopping, spare a thought, and a dollar or two, for your local merchants. They are your neighbours working to eke out a living in their modest businesses. It’s not easy being an independent businessperson these days. It’s difficult competing against the glitzy displays put on by big competition. And nowadays there’s the added competition from the surging online-based business sector allowing customers to shop from their armchairs. However, your neighbourhood merchants deserve patronage. Don’t forget it is they who help you pay your city taxes. It’s the local shopkeepers who sponsor your child’s sports team, supports CHEO and other hospital campaigns that fund crucial health care equipment, and provide prizes for fundraising raffles and contests aiding a variety of local causes. There are not many days when small busi-
nesses don’t receive a request or two to support a community campaign of some sort. A generous public ensures that schools, hospitals, youth groups, sports teams, heritage organizations and a myriad of other offerings that make this area a great place to live are able to acquire the extras that allows them to continue to serve their community so well. That support is especially important for the most vulnerable in our community. This time of year most are able to share in the joy and largesse of Christmas because the public rallies around a number of causes from local food banks, to the Mission to the Salvation Army. An important part of that support comes from the local business community. So when you are setting out on post-Christmas shopping, and spending any monetary Christmas gifts you were lucky enough to receive, stop by your local businesses. Close out 2015 by giving the gift of patronage to your hometown retailers who contribute so much to your community year-round.
Christmas is more than just sales at the mall
E
veryone is anxious for Christmas to arrive, most of us for the traditional reasons. True, some people are anxious for Christmas to arrive so that it will be over. And you can understand that. From Nov. 1 on, Christmas is an assault on the senses, both in a negative and positive way. There are the Christmas concerts and church services and the wonderful way the NCC lights up our downtown. But there is also the music pumped up in the shopping malls, the Christmas movies hogging the television schedule, the constant safety warnings about this and that, the endless discussions on radio, in the newspapers and on the Internet of Christmas as a “problem.” There was one such on the radio

CHARLES GORDON Funny Town the other day, where experts and ordinary citizens discussed a toy that could, it was said, have sinister implications. It might give kids the wrong idea. A stuffed elf that was purportedly, on Santa’s behalf, keeping an eye on the kids might make the kids more likely to accept the surveillance state. This was a serious discussion and if you needed yet another definition of First World Problem, this was it. You wonder what the newlyarrived Syrian refugees must think

about all this — a truly fortunate nation where the citizens are looking for things to worry about. In the part of the discussion I heard, no one said that parents might have an influence in how this toy was perceived by the kids, that the supposed negatives of this toy might be eliminated by smart parents and smart kids. But parents, for the most part, are smart and so are kids. Which is one reason why Christmas is so durable. The main attack on it comes not so much from grinches and nonbelievers as from the well-meaning forces of the marketplace. Years ago, it was recognized that sufficient business could be done in less than two months to make up for all the unprofitable other seasons of the year. disTriBuTion inQuiries Richard Burns 613-221-6243 adMinisTraTion: Donna Therien 613-221-6233 display adverTising: Gisele Godin - Kanata - 221-6214 Dave Pennett - Ottawa West - 221-6209 Blair Kirkpatrick - Orleans - 221-6216 Cindy Gilbert - Ottawa South - 221-6211 Carly McGhie - Ottawa East - 221-6154 Geoff Hamilton - Home Builders Accounts Specialist - 221-6215 Valerie Rochon - Barrhaven - 221-6227 Jill Martin - Nepean - 221-6221 Mike Stoodley - Stittsville - 221-6231 Rico Corsi - Automotive Consultant - 221-6224 Classified adverTising sales:

So no wonder Blue Christmas blares non-stop, no wonder those schmaltzy movies keep getting cranked out, no wonder the toy manufacturers try to create hysteria at the malls, and no wonder television commercials play on our guilt and envy. And sure, some of us get suckered in from time to time, spending too much and unwisely, over-eating and drinking, fretting about how to make Christmas more perfect than it is possible to make it. A lot of tension is created when we are ordered to be happy and there doesn’t seem to be enough time and money for it. Yet, somehow, it usually turns out to be not bad. When the time finally arrives, the stores are closed and the TV is turned off, families are able to close the door on the outside world and retreat into themselves, their annual rituals, hugs and jokes. Most of the time, it works. ediTorial: Managing ediTor: Theresa Fritz, 613-221-6261 theresa.fritz@metroland.com news ediTor: Joe Morin joe.morin@metroland.com 613-221-6240 reporTer: Megan Delaire mdelaire@metroland.com, 613-221-6175
Despite everything we are, in the end, more than just consumers and more than marketing statistics. We are people who can make our own decisions about how we want to share, how we want to celebrate, how we want to be happy. We can even manage to ignore all those people racing off to the malls on Boxing Day.

Marguirite’s daring led to challenging performance
M
MARY COOK Mary Cook’s Memories to throw our fists in the air, Marguirite raised her arm, thrust it backwards, which we were told by Miss Crosby not to do, and she smacked Cecil right in the middle. You could hear the whack, I was sure, all the way over to the Barr Line. Well, that tore it for Cecil, who didn’t want to be on the stage in the first place. He grabbed Marguirite’s hand, and held firm. We were then into the last verse of Dare to be a Daniel, and we were, in unison, supposed to point our open hands towards the windows,
which in Miss Crosby’s opinion signified the East. Well, of course, Marguirite couldn’t move. And neither could Cecil.I thought Miss Crosby was going to explode. Her face was beat red, and she took the little whistle, which was used only to start us on the right note, and blew it several times to no avail. Finally, two fathers who were sitting in the front row on wood planks, had the common sense to jump up, and grab the sheets that were strung across chicken wire to close off the stage to prepare for the next part of the pro-
gram, and shut out the scene to everyone’s relief. However, not all was lost. Most of the parents thought the whole fiasco was planned as part of the program, and it was met with thunderous applause, and Miss Crosby was lauded for being so inventive with such meager props and equipment available at the Northcote school. The rest of the Christmas concert went on without incident, but Miss Crosby never took her eyes off Cecil or Marguirite, waiting for some other crisis to mar the night. The recitations went on without a hitch, the stable scene was perfect, and when my sister Audrey sang Silent Night when the program ended, there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. I was sure both Marguirite and Cecil were going to get it from Miss Crosby on Mon-

day when we went back to school for the last few days before Christmas. But the fight was all out of our teacher by then. My older and much wiser sister Audrey, who always looked on the bright side of everything said, it could have been worse. Cecil, a big strapping lad, with the strength of a grown man, could have heaved Marguirite right off the stage and into the laps of the parents sitting on the wood planks in the front row.

It was the night of the Christmas concert, and the little one room building was packed to capacity. We were all in our best Sunday clothes, and that night I was allowed to leave the navy blue bloomers at home, and I had on a pair of my sister Audrey’s lisle stockings, folded over many times high on my leg and held securely with a tight elastic garter. I felt very grand, indeed. Marguirite, of course was dressed in a frothy white creation that looked like it had just come out of a store in Ottawa, and not from Walker’s in Renfrew. To further aggravate the rest of the girls at the Northcote School, she had on her hateful shiny Mary Jane shoes...the rest of us in black or brown brogues. Miss Crosby had us all well instructed on the arm movements and gestures we were supposed to use in singing the hymn that night. The senior classes stood at the back, the middle row were those in the middle classes, and those of us in the primer grade, and there were about five of us, were lined up in front. Well, that Marguirite was determined she was going to be the star, and that’s all there was to it! When we came to the words “Hold the Gospel banner high”, we all had to thrust our fists into the air, and say the words with conviction. That’s when the trouble began. Cecil was standing right behind Marguirite. He looked like he had just come off the pages of a Sunday School lesson. His hair was slicked down, he had on a white shirt, and it must have been one of his father’s ties he was wearing, because it passed his belt by a country mile. I must say, he didn’t at all like the Cecil we knew in class. Well, when it came time

Rideau Carleton Raceway Slots workers picket outside of the gambling site on Dec. 16 during a lockout sparked by a labour dispute between the workers’ union and OLG.

“If we look across the board, we have 17 collective agreements negotiated, 17 recommended and 17 ratified and we only had one other dispute during the fall with those game facilities and they came back and then negotiated, recommended and ratified.” Collective agreements are unique to each union, and Rousseau said that although the union has bargained for wages and benefits more inline with what workers at some other gambling sites are earning, OLG has not agreed to those terms. The current offer from the Rideau Carleton Raceway proposes a wage freeze for the first two years of a new contract, and to remove existing pension language. Rousseau said that the union’s biggest issue with the
contract proposed by OLG is that it would threaten workers’ government pensions plans. “The biggest sticking point on this absolutely is the pension plan. These employees have a government pension plan and the employer is asking them to take the language out of the collective agreement and say you’re going to renounce your pension plan,” Rousseau said. “What (the workers) are all wondering is ‘what are you going to give us in return for a pension plan?’ You can’t ask people who are contributors to a government pension plan to give up that pension plan and get nothing in return.” On Dec. 16, the same day that OLG initiated the RCR Slots lockout, union members voted almost unanimously to reject OLG’s offer,
with 96 per cent opting not to accept it. “This vote by the workers at the Slots sends a clear message to management that the current offer it has on the table is nowhere near where it has to be,” Rousseau said. The Rideau Carleton Raceway remained open during the lockout, though with reduced hours and services. The retail store, coat check, valet parking and a shuttle bus were shut down as a result of the lockout. Bitonti did not indicate when the lockout might end, but said the OLG was open to resuming negotiations with CPAC. “We are willing to go back to the bargaining table at any time,” Bitonti said. “And we’re hopeful that this can be resolved as soon as possible.”

Greely ES students have been busy global citizens by spreading their good will amongst families in need within our community. Students and staff donated 691 canned food items and $65 towards the purchase of turkeys for those in need. Students formed a bucket brigade (human chain) to help move all of the food items on to Mr. Meek’s truck . Thank you to Mrs. Meek for organizing the food drive and to Mr. Meek for helping to deliver the food can items on our behalf. Students and parents also helped make a difference by donating toys to our Toy Mountain. Students are happy knowing that they helped make another child’s Christmas extra special when they unwrap a new toy.

The joys and sorrows of the holiday season are upon us
I
magine you’ve just lost your mother, and it’s Mother’s Day. Everywhere you look, the world is celebrating mothers. Now multiply that feeling by one hundred. That is what the holiday season feels like for many local families this year. In some cases it’s the head of the household who is missing. The role will have to be assumed by someone else from now on. Holiday traditions may change a little, but many will remain the same. The missing person may be remembered with stories and anecdotes. In some cases a place is set for them at the table. We miss the people we have lost. But Christmas and all year long, I believe we have a responsibility to be a witness to their lives. Some cultures prefer not to mention the dead. They feel it is easier to move
DIANA FISHER The Accidental Farmwife forward in their lives if they leave the past behind and never mention the name of the one they have lost. In our house, it has been nearly eight years since we lost my Dad. The pain, although dulled over time, still swells up forming tears and catching us by surprise occasionally. We find bringing up stories of the past, using Dad’s favourite quotes and including his memory in our traditions helps to ease the sting of loss. This year we have much to celebrate with a healthy new baby in the family. We are not rich, but we have
enough. We are trying to keep spending down, so that our credit balances do not rise out of control. I am following the plan of buying our daughters “one thing they want, one thing they need and something to read.” For myself, I am really trying to slow down and pay attention. Long before the distraction of social media and cell phones, I have always been a person who finds it difficult to live in the moment. Big events tend to whizz past me and I realize afterward I didn’t take the opportunity to connect with
Pet Adoptions
FLASH (ID# A171776)
Meet Flash (ID# A171776), a playful and independent boy looking for his purr-fect match. Flash is an active cat that loves to play with his favourite toys. He would benefit from patient owners who will take lots of time to play with him. Flash would prefer an easygoing home with older teens rather than young children. He has lived with other cats in the past and they got along great. Can you help flash find his happily-ever-after? people. In the end I am the one who loses. I am practicing being present. Every evening I turn Facebook off early so I can enjoy conversation with my husband without distraction. Those pings and bells aren’t really conducive to a good night’s sleep either. On the weekends, I also try to keep social media activity to a minimum. That way I pay more attention to what’s happening outside on the farm, and in the house with the ones I love. It’s nice to feel connected to friends far away through Facebook and Instagram but they can wait. This Christmas I’m focusing on family. We are so lucky to have five generations of women getting together for a family photo. The new baby and her mama, my mom and I will head into the city to see Great Great
Grandmas Vicky and Mabel. I don’t take much time off work over Christmas but I hope to grab a day here and there to extend the celebration a little bit. Being busy with family get-togethers over the holidays is a true blessing. Not everyone has time with family to look forward to at Christmas. I realize this, so I’m trying to make every moment count. We have another little baby coming to our family this holiday season – the one that was due the same day as my daughter, December 31st. Gloria and Matt are probably on edge, watching and waiting for the signs to start appearing. With any luck we will have two little babies to pass around over the holidays. We also have a loved one who is in palliative care. This will be her last Christ-
mas. We will be making some time to spend with her as well. As we head into the holiday home stretch, I encourage you to put the phone down and look around. Notice the people who are hurting, sad or lonely and consider giving them the gift of your time and attention. It doesn’t take much – just connect with them and see if there is anything they need, or if they would like to get together and chat over a coffee. Even a simple Christmas card with a handwritten note inside can go a long way to remind someone that you are thinking of them during this difficult time. You can help make their holidays a little more bearable. theaccidentalfarmwife. blogspot .com dianafisher1@gmail.com

These are my two boys, Aramis on the left and Skye on the right. They are 4 and 2 years old respectively. They are Alaskan Klee Kai, a bit of a rare breed as of yet. They were bred to be a companion size Alaskan Husky. A relatively new breed, accepted into the United Kennel Club in 1997. They are small energetic dynamos are they are not for the faint of heart. Both my boys love to run and wrestle and they will go for hours if you let them. They howl and are talkie like Huskies, but they are loyal and very attached. My boys are always one step behind me and I love that about them! They are amazing dogs and I can’t imagine life without them! Do you think your pet is cute enough to be “THE PET OF THE WEEK”? Players from the Ottawa 67’s join members of their cheer team and staff in collecting hundreds of stuffed animals tossed on the ice at TD Place during the annual Teddy Bear Toss on Dec. 13. The Christmas season tradition, performed after the first goal scored by the home team, supports the children served by the Salvation Army. While the teddy bear toss was a success, the 67’s fell to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 8-5 in the game.

This week’s puzzle answers in next week’s issue
Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
ARIES - Mar 21/Apr 20 Think about ideas for the future if what you are doing right now does not seem very exciting to you, Aries. A new plan of attack can reinvigorate your motivation. TAURUS - Apr 21/May 21 Taurus, focus your energy on home-related projects. Procrastination is your enemy in these circumstances and can staunch any productivity you may have achieved. GEMINI - May 22/Jun 21 Gemini, there is a way out of every situation, even if it seems like all exits are blocked. Swallow your pride if need be and accept the help of others when it’s offered. CANCER - Jun 22/Jul 22 Cancer, you will be getting a lot of help with a special project, so expect it to go quite smoothly. Just be sure to pay back the favor when you can. LEO - Jul 23/Aug 23 Leo, a new perspective could help you see that things you thought were a big deal are really mole hills instead of mountains, and that’s an important lesson to learn. VIRGO - Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, learn how to deal with conflict in a productive way. Otherwise you may be stressed out and full of angst for no reason at all.
LIBRA - Sept 23/Oct 23 Somehow you always manage to pull through even with a ton of things on your plate, Libra. Even though you are successful, remember to schedule some downtime once in awhile. SCORPIO - Oct 24/Nov 22 Don’t get caught daydreaming too much this week, Scorpio. People at work may think you’re not serious about your efforts when nothing could be further from the truth. SAGITTARIUS - Nov 23/Dec 21 Sagittarius, expect to spend some money this week. Just how much you will spend depends on your ability to find the best bargains and discounts. CAPRICORN - Dec 22/Jan 20 It can be frustrating when others do not seem to understand your motives, Capricorn. Don’t feel pressured to change your way of doing things, especially if it’s working. AQUARIUS - Jan 21/Feb 18 Aquarius, something you have been looking forward to for some time is about to happen. It has been a long time coming but entirely worth it. Enjoy the ride. PISCES - Feb 19/Mar 20 Pisces, stick up for yourself when you need to. You are your biggest advocate, and you will present a strong front when feeling secure. 1224
