The provincial government has put the brakes on impending school accommodation reviews, prompting a sigh of relief from residents in Alta Vista and Hunt Club, where dozens of schools were set to go under the microscope starting in September. The delay is a response to feedback that Ontario’s Ministry of Education received from rural and northern communities this spring. The plan now is to overhaul the school accommodation review process, which means school boards are not to begin any new reviews, with some exceptions related to “joint-use projects between school boards or for student safety,” the ministry said in a June 28 statement. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board was set to launch its Alta Vista/Hunt Club study in September. “We’re relieved,” said Kris Nanda, president of the Riverview Park Community Association.
