The Philippine economy is hailed as the fastest growing in the Southeast Asian region. American multinational investment banking firm Goldman Sachs listed the Philippines as one of the “Next Eleven Economies,” estimating that by the year 2050, the Philippines will be the 14th largest economy in the world. By 2030, the Philippines is expected to become a $1 trillion economy according to Washington-based analytics firm IHS Global Insight based on its latest “Sovereign Risk Review.” The country is the only sovereign in Asia that got a positive action from IHS.

British multinational banking and financial services company HSBC ranked the country as the world’s 16th largest economy in 2050 – delivering fast growth with up to an average of 5% in its economy en route to 2050. In its latest World in 2050 report, multinational accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) also sees a leap from its 28th place in 2014 to 26th in 2030 and will further go up as the 21st in 2050 in terms of its Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and gross domestic product (GDP). The country is projected a growth of 6% in the third quarter of 2015 which makes up about 16% of the global GDP according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The country’s Export Development Council (EDC), likewise, eyes a 10% growth in the total export revenues motivated by the improving global economy and local

economic conditions. American financial services company Standard & Poor’s (S&P) also noted a fast growth projection of the Philippine economy from 5.6% in 2015, 5.7% in 2016 and 5.9% in 2017. In the second semester of 2015, the Japan Credit Rating Agency (JCR) upgraded the country’s credit rating from BBB to BBB+, reflecting the government’s improving fiscal position, sound external position, generally political and social situations and increased prospects for sustained relatively high economic growth. Debt watcher Moody’s Investors Service cited the Philippines’ rare economic resilience to the current headwinds buffeting neighboring countries and emerging markets as a whole reflected in its Baa2 government bond rating. An archipelago of 7,107 islands, the Philippines is regarded as one of the top tourist destinations in Asia. As other majestic wonders such as Boracay and Cebu, it is home to the island of Palawan – the twotime Best Island in the World (2014 and 2015) cited by leading US travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Strategically located in the world’s fastest growing region, it is only a few hours’ travel to major Asian destinations like Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, and Tokyo. It is a hub for international trade and investments due to its competitive workforce of highly skilled and creative people, lush natural resources, and a promising commercial environment.

Lifestyle Philippines is a curated exhibition of creative enterprises reinterpreting the Philippines’ rich heritage and artisanal soul for modern living. From abaca (Manila hemp), raffia, bamboo, rattan, coconut husk, mother-of-pearl to fine bone china, artisan communities of the Philippines transform their local materials with expert hands that carry generations of memories, guided by the spirit of today. The result is an extraordinary collection of objects with colorful stories from distant tropical shores – creating a rich tapestry of passion and hope.
