Urban Landscapes
MJH2
Explaining the Theme of my Photographs of Urban Landscapes Before I sat down and did a storyboard of what I wanted for this assignment. I decided to do it on the property recovery in Portlaoise town. I drove around the town to see what kind of photograph opportunities were available and if there was were suitable subjects. When I found suitable subjects then I sat down and done the storyboard because I had a defied what photographs I wanted for this assignment. The first photograph I took was of an Old Victorian house that is for sale. The reason I thought it would suit the brief is because it is all boarded up and over grown. The second photograph was of a house that had just been sold and the new owners were putting on a new roof. The reason I took this photograph is even though it was an old house it was getting a face-lift and it meant that even old houses have value. The third photograph was a ghost estate because these were new houses that were built but never sold after the property crash and were still boarded up. The fourth photograph was of the ghost estate but the sign that was put up to sale these houses before the property crash and how the weather has battered the sign and you could imagine the weather has had the same impact to the new houses. The fifth photograph was of two houses that were building beside each other in a picturesque setting and they are still empty. These houses are starting to look weather worn and neglected.

The sixth photograph was of a bank offering home loans and offering to pay for your stamp duty to get a mortgage from this bank and what crossed my mind had the bank not learnt from the last banking crisis. The seventh photograph was of a bank that has closed down and they are trying to let the building. What I liked about this was the banking crisis created the property crisis and now this bank is a victim of the crash and now they are trying to revamp the building onto a new business. Editing I was happy with the pictures I took and did very little editing. I cropped some of the photographs and changed the colour to CMYK so it was suitable for printing in a newspaper or magazine. Evaluate the work I was happy with how the project worked out because it was my first photographic assignment. It went as I had planned it, by looking around the town for suitable subjects meant when I sat down to do the storyboard I had a clear idea of what I wanted and where to go and get the photographic shot need for the assignment.
