Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Emerson College is a prestigious nonprofit educational institution renowned for its exemplary communication and arts academic programs. The College is a pillar of higher education in North America and Europe, with additional campuses in Los Angeles, California, and Bergen, Netherlands. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has classified this independent, nondenominational institution as a comprehensive educational institution. It attracts students from diverse backgrounds eager to engage in innovative, rigorous academic programs. The College's environment is designed to foster independence, engagement, and creativity among its students, making it a unique place for higher learning. The College is further distinguished by its Emerson Polling, a recognized public opinion poll, and its alumni, who have notably succeeded in the communication and entertainment industries. The origins of this college date back to 1880, when it was founded as the Boston Conservatory of Elocution, Oratory, and Dramatic Art in Boston's Pemberton Square. After multiple relocations, the main campus eventually settled in Boston's vibrant Theater District. Initially named after Professor Lewis B. Monroe as the Monroe Conservatory of Oratory in 1881, the institution was later renamed Emerson College of Oratory, and by 1939, it adopted the more straightforward name of this College, which it retains to this day. This College's mission is robust and forward-looking. It aims to educate students to become leaders in communication and the arts. This mission is enhanced by three core values: ethical practices, respect for human diversity, and civic engagement. These values ensure that students are academically proficient, morally grounded, socially responsible, and prepared to contribute positively to their professional and community engagements.
