Security fear on library changes NEW plans to keep Emersons Green Library open seven days a week - most of them unstaffed are causing concern. South Gloucestershire Council has come up with a scheme to expand opening hours at Emersons Green and most of the district’s other 12 libraries by allowing registered users to get in to the buildings using a swipe card. Staffed hours would be cut from 41.5 to 21.5 a week as part of a scheme to save the council £500,000 a year. But union members and pro-library campaigners told a meeting of councillors that the plans, which do not include livemonitored CCTV coverage of the libraries, could put the safety of staff and users at risk. If the changes get the final go-ahead in the New Year, the scheme could start in October 2017. Full story: Page 4

Up Pomphrey -and then up the aisle
WHAT do most couples do on the morning of their wedding day? Have a relaxing bath? Get pampered? Maybe sip a little glass of bubbly? Not so for Liam Royle and bride-to-be Laura Sturgeon. For the sporty couple chose to take
part in their favourite pastime the Pomphrey Hill Parkrun. Liam turned up for the 5k run at 8.45am wearing a jacket, top hat and bow tie. Not to be outdone, Laura donned a tutu and veil for the run, which was well attended by family and friends wanting to wish the couple well. As Laura had hurt her foot, the pair volunteered as time keeper and tail runner. Laura, 31, received huge support from her pals at Bristol Vegan Runners who turned up in force to give their support. The couple, who live in Kingswood, started attending the parkrun shortly after meeting two years ago. "It was Laura's idea," said Liam, 26. "She just said 'Would you like do the parkrun on our wedding day? We can get dressed up and run together'. I thought it was a really nice idea." The couple left Pomphrey
Hill around 10am - with plenty of time to spare to get ready for their wedding at 3pm at the Battleaxes in Wraxall. "We scheduled a late ceremony so we could fit the run in!" said Liam. "It was a really nice day and everyone was so supportive. So many people caught us going
round to wish us luck for the afternoon. " Running together is really important to us so it was really lovely and a nice way to start the day." The couple, who tied the knot on September 17, are now looking forward to their honeymoon in Costa Rica in January.

of “future-proofing” the service and ensuring that no library building will have to close. It will conduct further consultation before Christmas to find out what people think of Open Plus and what they think would be the best times for their local libraries to be staffed. Under the “new model”, which is aimed at saving £500,000 a year rather than £650,000 across the district, Emersons Green Library's staffed opening hours would drop from 38 to 21.5 a week , Staple Hill's from 34 to 21.5 and Downend's from 41.5 to 21.5. These reductions are slightly lower than those originally proposed. A final decision is due to be made in the New Year.
Excited Councillor Heather Goddard, chair of the ECS committee, said: “It is very clear that people in South Gloucestershire value their libraries and while we have to make savings, we want to ensure that these facilities remain at the heart of our communities into the future. “We are very excited with the prospect that new technology could actually make our libraries available to more people, more of the time. “I believe that many library users and potentially many who do cannot get to a library during current opening hours, will look forward to the prospect of being able to browse and borrow books, use the computers and use other library services when the buildings would normally be

closed and unavailable.” Staple Hill Councillor Ian Boulton, Labour’s lead member on libraries issues, said the Conservatives were seeking to use Open Plus as a fig leaf for their large-scale cuts to South Gloucestershire’s library service. “Their proposal will impose a 33 per cent cut in staffed hours across the district and an unquantified large cut to our library staffing levels is inevitable,” he said. Library supporters at the committee meeting in Thornbury on September 7 raised doubts about the cost and reliability of the Open Plus system. They expressed concerns about the loss of trained librarians and the security risks of unstaffed libraries, especially as there were no plans for livemonitored CCTV measures. Georgina Tankard, from the union Unison, said: “Open Plus raises huge inequality issues.” It could present difficulties for teenagers, elderly people, women, black and minority ethnic people, the geographically isolated and the visually impaired, she said. The council's decision to use funds to reduce the charge for green bin collections rather than support libraries also came in for criticism. But Emersons Green Councillor Colin Hunt said the lower green bin fee was necessary to encourage more residents to recycle. He praised officers for pursuing the Open Plus system and urged councillors and library users to give it a chance.

Happy days in great outdoors CHILDREN in the Resource Base at Blackhorse Primary School have a wonderful new outdoor space in which to play and learn. The area has been designed using research on how children with autism like to play and unwind. It includes spaces where children can practise their balancing and climbing skills or relax in a hammock, teepee, tube den or hanging pod. There's also a new roadway for the children to ride their scooters and trikes as well as an outdoor classroom. The equipment has been crafted from natural and recycled materials and includes a variety of textures to provide sensoriy feedback for the children. The outdoor area has been created by the Green Play Project, who have worked with the Resource Base leader Jacqui Taylor and her team to transform a former area of scrubland at the school for use by the 22 children aged four to 11 in Oak and Sycamore classes. It was funded by the school with the help of donations from

Sunbeams shines in eyes of Ofsted! SUNBEAMS Day Nursery in Downend is bursting with excitement after being rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by the watchdog Ofsted. In her report after visiting the nursery in Dibden Road in August, inspector Angela Cogan said staff knew the children well and built strong relationships with them. Learning was planned planned to meet each individual's needs, meaning that children were prepared exceptionally well for starting school. “The quality of teaching is consistently outstanding,” she said. “Staff are exceptionally well qualified.” Ms Cogan was impressed by how the children were mesmerised and engrossed in their learning, and showed tremendous independence and perseverance. “Chidlren are exceptionally considerate and respectful. They are excited and proud of their achievements,” she reported. The renovations to the
outdoor area to appeal to the children's interests were praised for adding to the superb opportunities open to children at the nursery, which has 55 children on roll. Owner Jackie Offer said: “I could not be more proud of the manager Alison Ryan and the whole team. I am elated that their hard work has been recognised and honoured. “Alison prides herself on how well the team know the children, their parents and family members and visitors often comment on the ‘family feel’ of the nursery.” Sunbeams follows the Bristol Standard self-evaluation scheme to continually reflect on and improve the quality of care it provides. It is open all year round (excluding Bank Holidays) for children of 0-5 years, with sessions between 7.30am6.30pm. For more information, visit www.sunbeams-daynursery. com or call 0117 956 6060.

Ben Smith, the Pied Piper of marathon running IF I were to mention the name Ben Smith to most people they would say ‘Who?’ but for myself and many others in the running community, his name is synonymous with grit, determination, fortitude, purpose and resolve. He is an inspirational man with a heartbreaking story to tell. As a youngster, Bristol-born Ben was mercilessly bullied physically and mentally at school, crippling his self esteem and taking him to a dark place that prompted him to try to take his life twice. The ramifications of this meant that he suffered from low confidence levels and a general lack of self worth in most of his adult life. In his late twenties, Ben was (by his own admission) overweight, in a stressful job, depressed and living what he felt was a lie. However, just a few years later he is fit and healthy, has quit his job and is now open about his sexuality. What transformed
Ben Smith with the Frampton Harriers him, you may ask? Running. Running has helped him do all this and now he wants to tell others about the benefits. When Ben first took up running he started with a few 5 and 10ks, followed by a half marathon and then a year later a full marathon. After setting himself challenges (like running

seven marathons in seven consecutive days) he decided to embark on the biggest challenge of them all – 401 marathons in 401 days. By running all over the UK, Ben’s aim is to raise £250,000 for the Stonewall charity which supports and empowers young lesbian, gay, bi and trans people to live lives free from discrimination and fulfil their potential. He is also raising the money for Kidscape – a charity that works to prevent child abuse and bullying. Ben sold his house (to help with funding) and started his challenge on September 1, 2015. He ran 284 consecutive marathons, which was a world record. The 34-year-old had to halt the challenge briefly due to crippling pain caused by a bulging lumbar disc which affects the spinal cord.

After a brief rest, he was back on the road, visiting schools around the country to talk about bullying and completing more marathons organised by running groups. And so it was, on Sunday September 18, 2016 that Ben turned up to run a marathon in South Gloucestershire organised by Andy Barton from the Frampton Cotterell Harriers. For 26 miles he was accompanied and spurred on by over 180 members of Frampton Harriers, Stanbridge Fliers, Staple Hill Runners, Southville and Emersons Green to name but a few. Ben, akin to the Pied Piper, weaved his way from Frampton to Mangotsfield and into Downend, Bradley Stoke

and Winterbourne. The support was phenomenal. Along the route I managed to ask Ben a few pertinent questions that children from Stanbridge Primary School wanted to ask him. The first was whether or not you feel more pain mentally from bullying or physically through running. Philosophical as ever, Ben answered, “Being bullied affects you more because of all the issues that happen afterwards. Imagine a piece of paper being scrunched up and then unravelled again. That’s a bit like bullying in that everything might look like it’s returned to normal when the paper is straightened out but the wrinkles will always be there and never go away. The pain of running is only temporary and with wears offBen overSmith time.” Frampton Askedthe if sport can help people Harriers recover from the mental abuse of bullying, Ben replied, “Sport isn’t necessarily a remedy to help people recover from bullying, but it helped me. Before I started running my confidence and self esteem were rock bottom. Running and all its challenges empowered me. I’m going further and achieving more than I ever thought I could do and I now realise things are possible that I never thought were possible before. Sport is only one avenue to build self esteem and confidence – music and the arts are equally important.” Ben has visited 92 schools so far on his epic journey, talking to pupils and teachers about bullying issues. I got the impression Ben Smith could have talked to me for hours about his past and how it has impacted on his life, but, everybody running with him wanted to shake his hand, ask their own questions or chat generally about marathon running. I felt privileged to have spent the little time I did have with him. Ben Smith has so far run over 10,000 miles, burnt over 2,500,000 calories in the process and run with over 8,500 runners in 21 different pairs of trainers all for charity. Jaxson - world golf champ at age of 6
He has his own website and YouTube channel so how does six-year-old golfing sensation Jaxson Perry stay so grounded? Jayne Taylor talks to dad Andrew to find out HE files into his primary school in Emersons Green just like any other pupil. His friends might think he's cool but to his teachers Jaxson Perry is like every other child at the school, for all are gifted in their own ways. But while Jaxson might not get preferential treatment, no one can deny his talents are extraordinary. From first swinging a golf club two years ago, Jaxson has just picked up the impressive title of world golf champion. He has just returned home from America after winning three trophies in four days. In fact he has won five trophies in the past three months. Jaxson was crowned a world champion at the US Kids 2016 World Golf Finals, where he won both the under-8s pairs competition and the under-7s putting World Titles together
with finishing 4th in the world in his 6 and under individual event from the 86 qualifiers. He also finished as the top placed European player at Pinehurst in North Carolina where players aged between six and 14 compete in their own age category from a staggering 84 countries. Since then Jaxson has been in the national and local newspapers as well as on TV. He's a mini celebrity - but is that a normal life for a small guy who doesn't turn seven until March? Jaxson's parents, Andrew and Edina, who live in Siston, say the most important thing to them is that Jaxson enjoys himself. "To Jaxson, it's just about the love of the game," said Andrew, who takes his son to the Kendleshire Golf Club to hone his skills. "Being six, he's not thinking

Jaxson with his recent clutch of trophies about being the world champion. He just wants to play well and get a cup! He's still got that cute six-year-old mentality and it will be wonderful if he holds on to that. We'd like him to retain that throughout his golfing career so he can remain relaxed and just enjoy being out there on the golf course."
Andrew, 45, puts Jaxson's talent down to good mimicry skills. "Jaxson's hero is Rory Mcllroy. He loves watching Rory's swing. Jaxson is quite a good mimic and is able to learn how to play a shot by watching Rory and other pros on TV or on YouTube." Andrew said Jaxson has taken all the media attention in his stride. "He's very easy going about it. He thought it was cool being on television and he has watched himself a few times on YouTube. He's far from big-headed about it though, in fact he's more likely to play it down. pressure he chooses to put on himself because he wants to play well." Remarkably, Jaxson, who also loves to play football, tennis, swimming and pool, only picked up a club two years ago. "We were in holiday in Spain and we went to a driving range with my father who has played golf for many years. Jaxson wanted to have a go but instead of picking up the club and swinging it around, he copied
exactly what his grandfather was doing." Jaxson really enjoyed playing the game so when the family returned home he attended group lessons at Bristol Golf Centre in Hambrook. "We did that for several months, then Jaxson just wanted to play all the time," Andrew said. "The bug bit him, definitely. In the space of two years he's gone from picking up a club as a four-year-old to winning multiple
11
events." And what if Jaxson, who is fluent in his mother's native tongue, Hungarian, decides in years to come he doesn't want to play any more? "You can't force anyone to do what somebody else wants them to do. It's got to come from themselves. If he didn't want to play next week, then he'd stop playing. He would never be forced by us." The family don't make a big deal of Jaxson's success with his teachers at Mangotsfield CE Primary. Andrew said: "We don't tend to push it through the school and don't always notify them of all the events Jaxson takes part in. The school's attitude is that he's just another school child and all children have talents. Luckily all the tournaments and competitions are on weekends or during school holidays as organisers understand that kids just can't be pulled out of school. That's great but it means all the prices for flights and accommodation go up." Which brings us on to another subject - cost. It's not cheap to
attend tournaments across the world and Andrew is keen to ease the financial burden by finding support through donations via a bursary fund set up with Jaxson's club, the Kendleshire. There are guidelines on financial support set down by the R&A, golf's governing body, so any funding will need to go through the correct channels. "The whole reason I started moving forward with the social media side of things for Jaxson is in the hope we might get some financial support for him so we can continue to allow him to play in the competitions he'd like to play in. "2016 was a year that we managed to go to the Worlds but it has come at a huge cost to the family. His YouTube channel has had over 150,000 views and we hope that some company or individuals might be able to help support us. "You never know what's round the corner." • Anyone interested in supporting Jaxson can get in touch with Andrew via www. jaxsonperry.com

Impressive start for Mangotsfield students MANGOTSFIELD School has made an impressive start to the new academic year following record exam results in the summer. Students are now wearing smart new uniforms and they have returned to buildings that have had a £100,000 revamp. The school has also introduced a house system, bringing back a competitive ethos with a range of contests planned, including football, singing and a tug of war. Nearly 20 new staff have joined the school, which is now part of the Castle School Education Trust. The school's GCSE students achieved Mangotsfield's best results, with 59 per cent gaining at least five A*-C passes including English and maths. Head teacher David Spence said he was especially pleased at the improvement in English results, up 18 percentage points to 76 per cent. He praised
New uniform for Mangotsfiled School students and staff for their hard work. “This is a school moving forward, ambitious for itself and for the students in this community,” he said. “There is a real sense of pride, excitement
and newness. We have had lots of positive feedback about the new uniform and we were delighted to welcome more than 1,000 people to our open evening.” Meanwhile, students and their parents have donated
their old uniforms and sports kit to be taken to Africa by local representatives of the charity Cricket with Boundaries. They will be given to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

School at the forefront of technology DOWNEND School has received official recognition for its excellent use of technology, both in administration and across the curriculum. The secondary school has been awarded the ICT Mark, meaning it is at the forefront of modern technology. Head teacher Mr Mark Fuller said: I am delighted to be awarded the ICT Mark. It recognises our positive approach to the use of technology and the benefits it is bringing to our children. We believe that technology can be used in every aspect of learning and that it is essential our children are equipped for the modern world. We are very proud to include the mark on our website and our mailings and this has been noted on a number of occasions, which has further raised the profile of the use of technology at the school” The lead member of staff, Mr Tony Johnson, involved in ensuring the school was ready for ICT Mark assessment, added: “I am really pleased that the presentation of this award shows recognition of the excellent work that is taking place at Downend School. Applying for the award really brought into focus the ICT work that we are doing each and every day. All the children and staff deserve credit for this achievement.” Mark Chambers, chief executive of the education technology association Naace, which awarded the accreditation,

said: "Downend School thoroughly deserves the accolade of an ICT Mark. They clearly demonstrate how important it is to take a whole school approach to using technology in schools. We look forward to working with Downend School to demonstrate how technology can have a substantial impact on learner outcomes in the future.

Rugby ace Amber turns professional
AMBER Reed, former Bromley Heath schoolgirl turned England rugby player, has more than one reason to celebrate. She has just been named in England's Elite Player Squad for the 2016/17 season and is among 29 players who have been awarded the first ever 15-aside professional contracts. The 54-player squad is split into full-time, part-time, shortterm and non-contracted players, with Amber one of 18 players receiving a full-time contract. Amber who was brought up in Fishponds where her mum still lives, was a member of the winning 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup squad after debuting for her country in 2012 against France. The 25-year-old is now looking to her next challenge the Old Mutual Wealth Series in November - and sees it as the perfect way for the squad to lay down a marker ahead of their World Cup defence in August 2017.
The side will first take on 2016 Six Nations title holders France at The Stoop on Wednesday November 9. They will then face New Zealand, again at the Stoop, on Saturday November 19 before facing Canada at Twickenham a week later. In addition, the side with travel to Dublin, home of the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup, to face Ireland on Sunday November 13. Amber said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to kick off the year leading into the World Cup. “It’s a very competitive autumn series with some of the best teams in the world so we are looking forward to the challenge.” England Women lost to Canada in the July before avenging their Six Nations defeat to France with victory over them in the summer. Amber herself topped a century of career Test points in that 17-13 win over France in the Rugby Super Series in Utah this July.
The Bristol Ladies player said a combination of preparation and being clinical will be crucial to them being successful in their November fixtures. “It will be very physical," said Amber. "There will be no easy fixture so we will have to be on top of our game for each one. “We have something to prove against Canada and we are
looking forward to putting in a solid performance in front of a home crowd. “We managed to beat France for the first time in three years in the summer, having lost to them in the Six Nations decider, so it’s a massive opportunity to lay a marker going into the World Cup next year. "I’d urge as many people as possible to get down to the matches and cheer us on." Amber, who has 22 caps, also says home support can play a huge part in helping to inspire them to victory over the coming months. “With the competitive nature of the teams we’re playing, it’s always fantastic to have home support. It does make a massive difference to the players on the pitch. “As a player it gives you that extra bit of edge knowing you have the majority of the crowd on your side and I’d urge as many people as possible to get down to the matches and cheer us on.”

n NEWS THE stereotypical image of homelessness is thankfully disappearing as people realise it's something that could happen to any of us at any time. Relationships break down, people lose jobs, council housing is in short supply - there is little stability in 21st century Britain. Those of us with children wonder how they will be able to afford to buy or rent property in the future. Never mind, they'll just have to stay with us. But what about those young people who don't have that luxury? What if a parent is abusive? They don't get on with a step family? They rent a flat but they've just lost their job? There are numerous scenarios which could lead to a young person living rough but what can we do to help? Emersons Green resident Susanne Frank is one of a growing number of volunteers opening up their homes to youngsters aged between 16 and 25 in need of somewhere to stay for one, two or three nights. Her job in publishing offers Susanne little opportunity to help others but through working with the charity Bristol Nightstop, she feels she is really "making a difference". Susanne, 50, found out about Nightstop, which is based at the Old Fire Station near the city centre, when she picked up the charity's flyer three years ago. Her son had recently left home and she realised that, yes, she did indeed have a spare room and could provide a safe place for a youngster to stay. Since then she has played host to more than 30 young people, offering more than 100 'bed nights'. "Young people usually find themselves homeless through family relationship breakdowns," Susanne explained.

Giving young people a bed - and a bit of hope and belief
Susanne Frank says she feels she is making a real difference by offering a warm room and food to young homeless people "They may have been thrown out by mum or dad or were living with a partner and that didn't work out. Sometimes there could be problems with a landlord. Some are working, some are at college and some are refugees who have a right to remain but can't find work to pay for accommodation until they learn the language here. The fact that there isn't enough council accommodation is hitting young people really hard. "It's really important that these young people are helped so they don't have to sleep rough or go to the adult night shelter which isn't the place you want to be if you're a young person. A place to stay just for a night or two can help them enormously." Funded by the Big Lottery, Bristol Nightstop has between 20 and 25 hosts on its books who are vetted and given training. But it's not a huge number given the
Fathi’s story I’VE been in England for seven months. I’m 24 years old and I don’t have anyone here that I know so that makes it very hard. All my friends and family in Sudan are dead. I love my country but I can’t go back. Learning English is the most important thing to me so I can talk to people, make friends and find work. I’ve tried to rent rooms but was told I’m too young. I can stay in the hostel but everyone is much older than me and I don’t feel safe; there are lots of problems there. Bristol Nightstop has helped me. I can stay with families for a few nights, the people care and I can clean my clothes, drink tea, eat and do the basic things I need to do. But I have slept on the street, and it really troubles me. Sometimes I hear things I don’t want to hear and they stay in my head for months after. Things like fighting, swearing, problems - they really affect me - I just want a place that’s peaceful.

size of the city and the escalating problem of homelessness. Susanne admits to being nervous when she received her first young person but not for the reasons you might assume. "I was nervous about whether they would be comfortable in my house and whether I would feed them the right food! It all turned out to be a lot easier and less frightening than I first thought. I wasn't so nervous about security issues but a lot of people are. They ask if hosts lock away valuables but I can assure everyone that's no issue at all because the young people behave like a guest in your house. They're usually quite timid and some won't even come out of the room.I usually offer one or two nights a week and some weeks I don't offer at all if I've got a lot on. That's what's great about Bristol Nightstop - you can decide how much of your time you give and you can withdraw at any point if something crops up. They won't refer anyone who they consider a risk and they never push - they are just grateful for whatever you offer." Susanne's 18-year-old daughter is still at home but this is far from a problem. "We both enjoy meeting new people because it's interesting and stimulating. For her, it's great to have another young person in the house. They have their own chat and banter that I'm not party to!" Young people are encouraged to talk about themselves to their host family.
Email: sales@emersonsgreenvoice.co.uk
"Sometimes the young people will open up and tell you quite a bit, more than they do to the key workers at Nightstop. If it's something dramatic like violence or misuse then we are encouraged to feed that back but so far that hasn't happened. It's more about lending an ear and being someone who hasn't got an agenda. Young people will have encountered people like parents, teachers, social workers, council workers who have an agenda but I'm impartial which hopefully gives them a bit of a break and they open up." Through meetings with key workers every few months, Susanne is able to find out how the young people she has helped are getting on. "It's lovely to hear that they've gone on to get a job and have found somewhere safe to stay. Sometimes there won't be a happy ending - they might disappear out of Bristol or continue to have to fend for themselves. You have to be realistic and just do what you can. You can feel so powerless when you hear the news and statistics about homelessness but by doing something practical to make a difference, even to just one person, you feel more empowered." Susanne gets great satisfaction from volunteering ."My day to day job doesn't involve helping people so that's something I enjoy doing in my private time. You see a change in a young person from when they arrive at your house to when they leave the next morning. Sometimes that change is so pronounced that they leave with a huge smile after a good night's sleep and a rest. I can also see a real difference in the young people I've hosted repeatedly. It's a good feeling to know you were there at a critical point in their life when it was really important for them to have a safe place to stay." You can find out more about Bristol Nightstop and about becoming a host by visiting www.bristolnightstop.org. uk. Summer of ‘76 recalled
It was 20 years ago today...
CAN you remember the long hot summer of 1976? Do you look back affectionately or recall the grim realities of months with little rain? The country was gripped by a heatwave - and an accompanying drought which spelt disaster for people living through it. A water ban was imposed and people were advised by the National Water Council that if they absolutely had to take a bath, it should be with no more than five inches of water.
REMEMBER 1996? The year when Spice Girls fever spread across the UK – and Sainsbury’s opened in Emersons Green. Staff, including some who have worked at the store since it opened in September 1996, celebrated the anniversary with a party at Cleve Rugby Club. They recalled the early days when the supermarket was surrounded by a building site and Margaret Thatcher was still Prime Minister. The first homes at Emersons Green were not occupied until February 1997 when the average house price was £64,950. Bread was 9p a loaf, milk was 5p a pint, and petrol was 70p a litre. The first manager of Sainsbury’s Emersons Green was Alan Watwood. One of the current duty managers is pictured with some of the original

The informal film screening and story sharing session is part of the £3.2m Drought Risk and You (DRY) project being led by UWE which looks at the impact of drought on seven catchments in England, Wales and Scotland, including the River Frome. Get set for MetroBus works on ring road and M32 DRIVERS can expect more delays this month as work continues to prepare for the MetroBus network. Overnight weekend closures of the A4174 Avon Ring Road at the Hambrook lights, twice postponed in recent months because of heavy rain, have been rescheduled. They include full closure of the westbound carriageway from 8pm on Friday 30 September to 6am on Monday 3 October and from 8pm on Friday 7 October to 6am on Monday 10 October. There will also be full overnight closure of the same stretch from 8pm on Monday 10 October to 6am on Tuesday 11 October. The road will be fully open during the day. South Gloucestershire Council says it is carrying out essential maintenance work. A spokesman said: “This resurfacing work has been carefully scheduled to take place when traffic flow is low however, we understand this
southglos.gov.uk Meanwhile, road works to extend the M32 bus lane into Bristol are about to start and are expected to last seven months. Contractors will be removing and replacing the central reservation, upgrading drainage and ducting, and installing Average Speed Cameras. The motorway will remain open during the works. South Gloucestershire Council's Planning, Transport & Strategic Environment lead member Councillor Colin Hunt said: “We’ll be managing the road works to minimise disruption to the travelling public. Extending the M32 bus lane will speed up bus journeys for MetroBus passengers; it will also mean quicker journeys for passengers on other bus services that use the motorway. By improving the reliability of bus services we’ll encourage more people to leave their cars at home, reducing congestion for everyone.”
Residents fed up with the closure of Stoke Lane northbound for the works staged a ‘MetroBus is pants’ protest may cause some inconvenience and disruption and apologise for this. We advise you allow extra time for your journey. Advance warning signs will be displayed and diversion routes will be in place and will be clearly signed. We are making every effort to ensure Parish Councils, residents and businesses are informed.” More overnight closures
are planned further along the ring road. These will be nightly between 8pm – 6am from Monday 26 September to the end of the October. The road will be fully open during the day and at weekends. Information on diversion routes can be found at www. southglos.gov.uk/challengefund or by emailing challengefund@

New school year brings new start OCTOBER is the perfect time to get started with additional support for your child’s education. After the long summer break, many of you will be reminded of your child’s summer exam results or school report. The children I tutor in English and Maths at Kip McGrath Bristol North in Downend require tutoring for a variety of reasons: some are struggling to keep up to year level, due to time out from school or the pressures of the school system; others are there because their parents want to make sure that their children are ‘on track’ and well supported in their learning; some parents would like their children to be extended beyond their year level, or are aiming to get their child in to one of Bristol’s best private schools. And of course, there are those who are preparing for exams, from SATs right through to GCSEs. Whatever you and your child’s needs, the tutoring at
Kip McGrath’s tuition centres is based on the simple ethos that ‘all children can progress if given the correct support’. Kip McGrath Bristol North provides after school tuition in English and maths for children aged 5-16, using methods that have been proven over 40 years. All Kip McGrath tutors

Based on this, your dedicated tutor will devise a starting point and personalised learning plan to enable your child to reach his or her individual

Andy is inspired to aid charity effort AN Emersons Green resident has handed over a cheque for more than £1,000 towards a minibus that will take underprivileged and disabled children on day trips. Andy Hunt, a customer services manager at Swinton Insurance in Kingswood, raised £1,246.13 for the children’s charity Variety after organising a staff sponsored walk. Andy and his colleagues walked to the company’s Bedminster branch and were joined by Downend Variety fundraisers Dave Hook, his wife Tracy, Julie Houselander, Jan St George and Kirsty Hook. The reputation of charities has taken a knock and it’s the same with insurance so it’s really good for us to get involved like this. “My children are 12 and 15 and take day trips to the beach or to watch football for granted but when you hear how Variety takes children from disadvantaged backgrounds out for the day and it’s the best trip they’ve ever had, it makes you realise what a difference the charity is making.” Dave, who also raises money through his Rod Stewart tribute act, said: “It’s great to have Andy on board and I know he is keen to continue to help raise funds for the minibus. “For a walk which was quite quickly organised, it’s amazing that more than £1,200 was raised.”

New brain injuries Could this be month hospital set to open you quit smoking? MORE than 200 people were shown around a new hospital for braininjured patients at Frenchay before work started to move into the premises. The Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (Frenchay BIRU) has a national reputation for excellence, providing specialist assessment and therapy. But with only 29 beds, it needed a new unit that could allow it to expand its services and meet demand for its care and treatment, both locally and throughout the South West. The new hospital is directly opposite the one it is replacing and has 52 beds Once services and patients have been switched over, the old unit will be refurbished and modernised to offer a service to up to 23 people who require a longer period of rehabilitation, treatment and support from the same team of experts. They will also be able to practice independent living in a safe environment. The open days were held for local residents, medics, past patients and those who refer people to the hospital. Typically, patients requiring the service are transferred directly to the centre after treatment in an NHS acute hospital to stabilise their medical condition. They are in the very early stages of recovery from their brain injury and many arrive with complex and profound cognitive and physical impairments. Hospital director Alison Woods said: “The team are delighted to see our long-held vision to expand our services finally come to fruition. With a new hospital here at Frenchay, we can now provide more much-needed beds for individuals with brain injuries.”
PEOPLE in Emersons Green are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Stoptober campaign. South Gloucestershire Council wants residents to use the opportunity as a springboard to quit smoking cigarettes for good. Last year more than 880 people in the district took part and it is hoped even more will sign up in 2016. Councillor Toby Savage, chair of South Gloucestershire Council’s Public Health and Health Scrutiny Committee, said: “I’d encourage anyone thinking about giving up smoking for good to come along to one of the group sessions running throughout Stoptober. “They are free and open to anyone who wants a helping hand to stop smoking. You’ll be joining other people who want to stop smoking and with the help and support of our trained
advisors you are much more likely to quit for good. “The sessions are run by Smokefree South Gloucestershire and offer access to help and advice including a free personal quit plan tailored to your individual needs. “There will be motivational tips on how to stay on track as well as advice on stop smoking treatments to help beat cravings.” If you’re looking to take part in Stoptober, text your name and “READY” to 80011. You can also call on 01454 865502 or email smokefree@ southglos.gov.uk to make an appointment at one of the free support sessions. The sessions take place in Patchway every Tuesday between 4pm and 7pm and in Kingswood every Thursday between 3pm and 7pm. Same day appointments are available.

Emersons Green author chosen for Cheltenham Literature Festival AN AUTHOR from Emersons Green has had a busy summer due to the success of one of her short stories which is now taking her to this year’s prestigious Cheltenham Literature Festival. Ali Bacon’s story Silver Harvest was originally chosen to be read at the Stroud Short Stories event in April and is now one of seven stories selected from more than 100 to be in the Greatest Hits show in Cheltenham this month. Earlier this month the story, which was inspired by an early photograph, also took Ali on a 400-mile trip to St Andrews in Scotland where she read it as part of an hour-long programme in the town’s first ever Photography Festival. Ali said: "Most people have heard of how Fox Talbot invented photography at Lacock but not so many are aware that
Author Ali Bacon is pictured reading her story Silver Harvest at St Andrews Photography Festival his discovery was passed on to a friend in Scotland, where the foundations of modern photography were laid." Although Ali was thrilled to read her work where the story began, she is equally delighted to have it chosen for Cheltenham, a world-famous literary festival

n RECIPE OF THE MONTH THIS recipe has its origins in our lemon drizzle cake. I decided that an orange cake would be nice for a change, especially as we had orange curd available. It has now become one that makes a regular appearance in the shop; if you don’t want to bake yourself! As we had a birthday in the family this month, I felt a fancier cake was called for, so adapted the recipe again to make a filled and iced sponge. Feeling indulgent (it was a special occasion) I used whipped double cream as well as orange curd to fill the cake , feel free to just use orange curd that way the leftovers won’t need refrigerating . Orange Curd Sponge makes 1 20cm round filled cake or use a large loaf tin (or 2 small ones) for an unfilled cake Ingredients: 200g self raising flour plus a tsp baking powder 180g caster sugar 150g Margarine (or softened butter) 4 eggs: whites separated from yolks Zest and juice of 2 large oranges 1 tablespoon lemon juice ½ jar (approx. 2-3 tablespoons) orange curd 1tsp orange flower water (optional but it elevates the flavour) and/or a
Orange Curd Sponge with Mel of Melanie’s Kitchen few drops of orange extract Icing sugar to decorate Preheat oven to 160c Fan (175c Gas 3) Line 2 20cm round cake tins( or 1 large loaf tin or 2 small ones) Cream the fat, sugar, orange zest,1 tablespoonful of curd, orange flower water and extract together until pale and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolks one at a time adding a spoonful of flour with each to prevent curdling. Add half the orange juice and all the lemon juice beat again. Fold in remainder of flour. Whisk the egg whites until stiff and fold gently in. Divide mix evenly between your tins smooth top and place in oven. Bake until top is golden , sponge not wobbly and coming away from sides of tin (approx.25- 30 mins for round tin , 30-40 mins for loaf ) Remove from oven and cool for approx. 10 minutes in tin before placing on wire rack to finish cooling . To decorate make a thickish icing with the remaining orange juice and icing sugar. For round cake spread a layer of icing on top of one of the cake halves then pipe lines of orange curd across.
Before the icing sets drag a fork or cocktail stick up and down top of cake through the lines to create a feather effect. Spread remaining curd on bottom half of cake, top

with whipped cream if liked, gently place iced cake on top. Enjoy For a loaf cake just pipe or drizzle diagonal lines across top of cake.

Sound of Music, Bristol Hippodrome LIKE many people, I saw The Sound of Music on telly when I was a kid; but I’m not a megafan. I’m not a regular musicalgoer either. However, after watching this show I’m ready to see more! The Hippodrome itself is a gem of flamboyant lateVictorian architecture. The stage mechanics and scenery changes are fascinating. All the songs you know and love are here – from brownpaper packages tied up with string, to the hills are alive, to the lonely goatherd (yodel-ayhee-hoo) - along with a couple I didn’t remember. And there’s some charming choreography, particularly Rolf and Liesl’s Sixteen Going on Seventeen. After the obligatory plotsetting, the show came alive for me with the entrance of the seven children – the Von Trapp family. The little ones were just as cute as they should be, and
the older ones had presence and likeability. After a joyful rendition of Doe A Deer (official title Do-Re-Mi), I was fully engaged and enjoying

Drama group looking for new members A DRAMA group based at the Royal British Legion in Staple Hill is looking for new members for its spring show. CHAPS have been going for more than 20 years but have only recently moved to the Legion, which has a stage. The group will hold an open evening for anyone interested in finding out more about either performing or working behind the scenes. n VETS ADVICE
Is your pet scared of fireworks?
E
VERY year we experience a surge of phone calls asking for help just before Bonfire Night. This can be such a stressful time for both pets and their owners. Why not prepare in advance this year? Top Tips: • Keep pets indoors and exercise them while it is still light outside. -• Close windows and curtains; turn on lights to reduce the effects of flashes. Keep the Radio/
Television volume high to drown out the loud bangs. • Allow your pet to hide away somewhere safe: build a den by covering a pet cage with blankets. Cats feel more comfortable high up. • New toys or food treats can act as a distraction. • If you know another dog that is not scared by noises, keeping them together may help them realise that there is no need to be afraid. • Pets are reassured by a calm owner. Act normally and don’t comfort or fuss your pet as this can reinforce the fearful behaviour. • Move hutches or cages indoors. Provide extra bedding to burrow into.
Helpful Products There are many helpful products on the market, but they must be used in conjunction with behaviour therapy to have any success. We have available: Adaptil products can help your dog cope with fear. It produces a scent that only your dog can smell, and mimics the pheromone produced by bitches when they suckle their pups. The effect is not
immediate, so these products need to be used continually for up to two weeks before the scary event. Nutracalm is a fast acting natural supplement which is specifically formulated to calm anxious pets and to help reduce unwanted behaviour. For most pets it starts working within 60 minutes. These Products can be bought over-the-counter at reception. For further advice please contact us.

Foodbank in demand RESOUND foodbank in Mangotsfield has seen an increase in demand over recent months and needs to stock up its supplies for the winter. It is asking supporters not to buy baked beans or tinned soup, but to stick to items on its list, which can be found online. Some of the things it needs are wrapped chocolate bars and individually wrapped chocolate bars, as well as tinned meat and fish, instant mashed potato, pasta, rice and couscous. Personal items such as toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant and non-food products including toilet rolls and washing up liquid are also welcome. The foodbank will be producing Christmas boxes for its customers again this year but if you want to get involved with this, please contact the organisers, who will allocated a specific number and size. Donations can be dropped off at Resound any Friday morning .

BEECHMERE BELLES WI HELLO from Beechmere Belles. We are a relatively new WI with member of all ages, as we meet in the evening, we are good for mums and working ladies. We meet at 7.30 pm on the fourth Thursday of the month at Emersons Green Village Hall. Our October meeting brings our AGM and as we celebrate two years of Beechmere Belles we will have a cheese and wine evening with birthday cake of course. It will give us a chance to socialise, so ideal if you fancy visiting us. Please feel free to come along and join us. We always give a warm welcome to visitors so come and see us, no waiting list, just friendly faces and cake!

MANGOTSFIELD WI
A HUGE thank you to Alan Freke who regaled us with the ‘Hidden History of Frenchay Hospital’. We started the journey from its origins right up to the last days of operations and our members were engaged and entertained through the night. Our annual meeting on October 24 is one of the most important in
the WI year. We look back on all the activities we have enjoyed in the last year, and the president thanks the committee and all the members who helped to make 2015-2016 so successful and exciting. Mangotsfield WI celebrated its 40th anniversary in style this year – it was certainly a year to remember. The 2016 -2017 president and committee will be elected then we will finish the evening in the traditional WI way with tea (or something in a glass!) and cakes… obviously! Our meetings start at 7.30pm and we do not charge for our visitors. Burns research project - your help needed PARENTS whose children have suffered burn injuries are being sought for a research project. The study is being led by Dr Jennifer Heath, a PhD researcher at the world-renowned Centre for Appearance Research based at UWE Bristol. She is aiming to survey mothers and fathers about the support, or absence of support, they received when their son or daughter was injured. Jennifer said: “I would like to survey the opinions of parents who have received support, as well those who have not. This is in order to establish the extent to which avenues of support are accessed by parents, why they are accessed and whether they are beneficial. “I would also like to establish what type of support parents would find most useful, and at what stage after the burn injury it would be best for services to offer such support.” Every year in the UK,
approximately 175,000 people, including 58,000 children, attend accident and emergency departments for treatment for burns. Of those, 16,100 are admitted for hospital care and around 1,000 patients with severe burns receive specialist care. Higher rates of burns are seen in the under-fives and people over the age of 75. Jennifer, a clinical psychologist who has worked in an adult burns unit, is carrying
out the research because it could contribute to service developments which might benefit patients and their families. She said: “I am hoping to interview 15 parents for the initial study by November. If parents come forward and want to participate after I have met my interview target, I can hold their details on file and invite them to participate in the second phase - a questionnaire study.
All participants will remain anonymous and it is intended that the results from these two phases of research will inform the development of a support intervention for parents. “All parents who have a child who has suffered but survived a burn injury requiring hospital treatment are invited to participate. I am recruiting parents from all over the country. Either both parents, or just one, can participate in the research. “It doesn’t matter when the injury took place - this means some burn-injured ‘children’ may in fact be adults. Parents of burninjured adults are not excluded from the study.” If you are interested in taking part in the study, please read the study information and complete the consent form which you can find at http://tinyurl.com/ parents-support-1 Alternatively, contact Jennifer directly at jennifer3.heath@uwe. ac.uk

Family charity seeks trustees HOME-START Bristol (HSB) is recruiting two Trustees to join its current eight-member Trustee Board team. The charity supports families living within the geographical boundaries of Bristol and South Gloucestershire, who have at least one child under five and who are experiencing problems affecting their wellbeing as a family. This support is provided by trained volunteers (under the guidance of HSB professional co-ordinators) who visit a family each week, offering support, friendship and practical assistance. There is a staff of six part-time employees and 78 volunteers. One of the employees combines her administrative role with that of Early Intervention Worker, providing rapid and direct response to families in, or on the point of, crisis.
35
During 2015/16 Home Start supported 134 families and expect to support at least that number in the next twelve months. By becoming a Trustee of HSB you will be part of a team helping to make a lasting and positive impact on the development of children and the health and welfare of families. Trustees are unpaid, but reasonable expenses can be claimed. Board meetings are held monthly, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday morning at the Greenway Centre Doncaster Road, Southmead, Bristol. To find out more contact Beverley Symonds, scheme manager at schememanager@ homestartbristol.org.uk or call 0117 950 1170. See www. homestartbristol.org.uk for further details.
COMMUNITY groups in Bristol are being invited to apply to Bristol Zoological Society’s ‘Access to Nature’ bursary scheme. It is open to individuals and groups who may not usually be able to visit either Bristol Zoo Gardens or Wild Place Project due to costs, transportation access, or restricting carer responsibilities. The bursary contributes towards, and may even fully cover, admission to either Bristol Zoo Gardens or Wild Place Project, an optional education session and return travel in an animal-themed minibus. Simon Garrett, head of conservation learning at Bristol Zoological Society, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer this bursary to help bring people closer to nature. “There are many individuals and community groups in the area who would love to
encounter, discover and learn more about the animals we care for, as well as find out more the work we do to protect animals around the world, and what they can do to help, but find it difficult to do so for either financial or mobility reasons. We’d like to do what we can to remove these barriers.” Community groups and individuals in and around Bristol can apply for the scheme via the Zoo’s website:www.bristolzoo. org.uk
Homes being snapped up at Lyde Green MORE than half the homes on Bellway’s Lyde Green development have been sold. The housebuilder is building 118 homes just off the ring road, which will include a mix of high-spec two-bedroom apartments, as well as three and four-bedroom houses. Construction on the on the 99-hectare site is expected to be completed in the spring of next year. Bellway has recently opened the doors to its four-bedroom, semidetached showhome for visitors at the development. Sales Manager for Bellway South, Tim Lund, said: “It has been a pleasure to see how well Lyde Green is coming along. Over half of the plots have now been sold and we are well on track to completing the development on time. “Bristol is one of the UK’s most popular cities and the demand for new homes is very high. We are very pleased to be supplying that demand and we expect interest in the site to remain strong as we release more homes to the market. “The development is within easy commuting distance of Bristol city centre, and there is easy access to Bristol Airport, Bristol Parkway station and both the M4, M5 nearby. “Lyde Green is going to make a wonderful addition to Bristol once construction is completed, and we are looking forward to welcoming new buyers to the development.” Work on the development started in July 2015 and was among one of the first sites to be built by the company’s South West division. Te development will also feature parkland, two new schools, commercial properties and leisure facilities, plus shops and services. Prices for homes on the site currently start at £189,000.

Sandy just misses out on championship win
Third place for Mangos
SANDY Smith ventured from Mangotsfield to Wiscombe Park Hillclimb in Devon for the final two rounds of the Bristol Speed Championship. Leading the championship, he needed a good result to seal the win. Saturday was wet and with such a demanding course, Sandy was struggling against his formidable opponents. He was placed in the under 2600cc class in his Mazda MX5, which left him against cars with over 300bhp driven by competitors with lots of experience at the hill. He finished several seconds off the pace, losing the lead of the championship and dropping to third place behind Simon Clemow and Luke Trotman. Sunday was the day to make it right and the better weather and increased experience played to
Sandy as he finished within two seconds of the field to get a much better score. Sadly, it was not enough to win the championship, but it was enough to claim second place. Phil Oliver of Downend finished 13th with Andy Laurence close behind in 15th and James Hurford in 19th. Garry Hendy of Fishponds finished 23rd. Garry is looking for a new MX5 to compete in 2017, whilst Andy is selling his Mygale EgoBoost and joining the MX5 fraternity with a supercharged car. Sandy, Phil, and James will remain in their MX5s. Before then, Sandy had one more championship to contend and the penultimate round was at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire. The venue is the oldest continually running motorsport
venue in the world and consists of a blast up a tarmac track just 14 feet wide with several very fast corners. The fastest cars complete the 1,000 yard track in just over 20 seconds, hitting 150mph in the process, but Sandy wasn't quite on that pace in his MX5. He was, however, in fine form and broke the class record to score a good haul of points, winning the MX5 class of the national HSA Speed Championship. If this sounds like fun and you want to be involved, Bristol Motor Club runs a bunch of events throughout the year. Use your favourite search engine or social media to find the club or head to the club house in Colston's School, Stapleton at 8.30pm on the first Tuesday of the month.
MANGOTSFIELD United were in third place in the league as the Voice went to print, after a quiet month following their early exit from the FA Cup. The highlight of recent weeks was a rare league victory in the local derby at home to Yate Town. That was quickly followed up by a good away win at Didcot Town. Having played four of the top eight clubs, and having won all three home games so far, confidence is high. Forthcoming fixtures are: October 1 v Paulton Rovers October 8 v Yate Town in the FA Trophy. This is followed by a fun Pig Race fundraiser commencing at 5.45. October 11 v Slimbridge October 22 v Shortwood United Defender Ben Withey has been recalled by Weston-superMare
Bromley Heath United mark 50th birthday BROMLEY HEATH United will be hosting a dinner dance event at the newly redeveloped Ashton Gate stadium on Saturday, November 19 to celebrate the club’s golden jubilee. Established in 1966, the oldest junior football club in Bristol is hiring the recently launched Lansdown Stand to commemorate 50 years since the club first started as a single team in a north Bristol park. The club now boasts its own great facilities and has more than 300 members – from as young as four right through to the club’s newly added senior section. The dinner dance, which starts at 7pm, is open to anyone over 18 who would like to celebrate the club’s achievements over 50 years, while spending an evening with celebrity guests at Ashton Gate. Club chairman, Jamie Andrews-Britton, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the club’s 50th anniversary. It’s
an achievement everyone who is associated with the club is extremely proud of. “The dinner and dance evening will be a fantastic occasion where various members of the community can come together to celebrate Bromley Heath’s achievements and the development of local amateur sport across Bristol. “We are also very honoured that this will be one of the first large events to be held in the newly built Lansdown Suite.” All proceeds from the evening will be shared between Bromley Heath FC, Bristol City Community Trust and Bristol Rovers Community Trust, all of whom will reinvest the funds back into the community to support the development of local grassroots sport. Tickets for the event are £50 per person. For further information on this event or to purchase tickets, please call 07523 944690 or email bromleyheathunited@aol.com.

n ON THE TREATMENT TABLE
with Tim Button, Doctor of Chiropractic at Cleve Chiropractic and Next step in Mangotsfield
Blog 33 – Sports medicine WHAT a month for sport! We have obviously just been blessed with the the best medal haul of any Olympics that I know of, surpassing even London, but on top of that we surpassed the medal haul of my favourite event, the Paralympics. The month started for me with Sport, sport and more sports medicine. Chronologically it started on the Tuesday where, Keith our illustrious and now head physio of Bristol Rovers, Sarah our Sports therapist and I went on the team bus to work at the mighty Chelsea vs Rovers game. Stamford Bridge was out of this world. It felt surreal to be walking through the tunnel onto a perfect pitch with the team. I have worked at all of the Rugby Premier league grounds, Twickenham and the Millenium stadium before with Bath rugby but there is such a different feel to a Premier League football ground. Because of the vast difference in league position of the teams,
the atmosphere was quite unexpectedly welcoming and friendly. The dressing room was large and well furnished as you would expect but truly it was the Rovers fans during the game that made it for me. They were so loud throughout the match, the players always comment on the positive effect the supporters can have on the team when they are in their normal good voice. In contrast it is clear that in the stadium most of the home fans were tourists so didn't know the songs and didn't join in leaving the Rovers fans to dominate the atmosphere. The pressure and the skill level from Chelsea was nothing short of awesome (I remember looking at the clock feeling like most of the first half had gone but it was only 8 minutes) but the boys kept them out for a never ending 29 minutes with some epic defending. It was only a matter of time though and we conceded two quick goals. It looked like it was going to be a lot more but after a little bit of possession Linsey put in a perfect cross for Hartley to score from a wonderful header. The half finished 3-1. In the second half it was clear that Chelsea were shaken by a second goal from Ellis Harrsion making it 3-2 and we watched from the dug out as they put on most of their big names including Hazzard and John Terry creating a team that was full of stars. I'm scared to even guess what that team was worth. We lost the game 3-2 but we did well and could leave the match with dignity. It was another example of another crazy time with the team over the last few years but I can honestly say that despite the result it was one of my favourite professional moments of my career to date.
Friday brought the last time I would treat our, soon to be, Paralympic champions down at the track in Bath before they left for Rio. I started to volunteer down with the GB Paralympian sprinters the year before working at the London Olympics and a couple of years later Iain, our chiropractor joined me, easing the burden of working every Friday evening to the satisfaction of my growing family. Eventually Paul Blake came home with a Gold and a silver medal and Sophie Kamlish broke the world record in her heat but could only finish fourth in the final. These things happen in athletics but, as I told her, she can only be described as the best in the world despite the medal position. An old friend, Kadeena Cox, that I helped at the World Cerebal Palsy games last year also did amazingly well, bagging 2 gold both world records), 1 silver and 1 bronze Medals. She was rewarded by being made flag bearer for the closing ceremony. I love the Paralympics more than the Olympics because every
athlete has such a story of different challenges, how they overcame them and, from what I have seen a beautiful spirit that all athletes should admire and aspire to. Lastly we finished the week on Sunday working at YOSC athletic track with our amazing, branded, huge pop up gazebo helping all of the athletes at the track with a winning combination of Chiropractic, Physiotherapy and Sports Therapy. Like I said, what a month...what a week. It's times like these that I realise that I have the best job in the world.
