The book consists of short vignettes telling their stories, and most, even after 50 years or more still had more respect for their mule charges than some of the people they encountered later in life.

Our advice: No child left inside Continued from Page 3 Here you can see some of the oldest rocks in the Midwest exposed. The River Heritage Region (Cape Girardeau, the Boot– heel, and the shank of the boot over to Poplar Bluff) combines the best of Southern outdoors traditions with the tinge of the nearby Ozarks. Waterfowl hunting is king, along with cotton, and muddy Mississippi River fishing. Deer and turkey have returned, but in lesser numbers. In northern Missouri, including Swan Lake, Forest Lake and Mark Twain Lake regions, big deer are king, upland bird hunting is queen and catfish and large fish rule the murky streams. St. Louis and Kansas City have outdoors places too. A number of outfitters, Conservation Nature Centers, and smaller public parks serve people, especially youth, who are unable to travel to traditional outdoors destinations. “No Child Left Inside” is a laudable goal.
