COVERED VEGATATED CORRIDOR
This urban thoroughfare was once a small tributary of the kênh Nhiêu Lộc - Thị Nghè. The natural drainage-way gave space for a string of vegetation in the informal settlement. It moved with the informal urban fabric and grew with the neighbourhood until recently, in 2019 it was paved over.
SHIFTING GREEN SPACES
Satellite imagery shows the metamorphosis of green spaces in a canal suffocated by informal settlements in the Bình Thạnh District of Ho Chi Minh.
The informality of the settlement allows the greenspace to fluctuate, moving with the pressures and needs of the residents; working in symbiosis.
PLANNED VEGETATION : AVENUE
Formal vegetative patterns provide residents with a necessary green space but contrast the neighbouring organic growth. Although both provide ecological benefits to the community, their differing growth patterns over the decades speak to their health and adaptiveness to the changing climate conditions.
