The Disney Princess is known for her fairy tale ending and perfect enriched life with natural beauty and the perfect ballgown dress within a total magical fantasy. The character Sleeping Beauty is stripped from the fantasy and put into a ‘normal’ body.

The life of a Disney Princess is portrayed as the perfect life that young children want to live. Meeting her Prince Charming and living happily ever after in a life of luxury. Although this is a child’s fantasy this is a mirrored vision in our British Royal Family today. Without the fantasy and fairy tale of Disney, a Princess is a human. A human living a life of luxury, but a human also living in entrapment from the rules, tradition and modern society.

What Makes a Princess? Does being a Princess mean living a perfect life of luxury and meeting her prince charming? The word Princess has been confused within the portrayal of Disney Princesses. This editorial explores what Disney Princesses would look like when taking away the fantasy.
