A Song Of Ice And Fire Series By George R. R. Martin These book jackets refer heavily to both the content and themes of the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ Series. As an ongoing series since the late 90’s, the several variations of the covers are heavily dated and lack an appeal to modern audiences. These book jackets have are created with the intention of providing a modern interpretation of the books that have become so popular. A minimalist and geometric design with bold colours and sharp contrast brings the focus of these jackets to the contents of the book itself, and provides hints of themes and events that will occur, and are only apparent once the reader knows the text. The title typography was designed specifically with the geometric theme in mind, and features the only curved forms in the design. The main focus in imagery on each cover is representative of important events in each book, as well as a geometric depiction of the sigil of the house whose story features most prominently. The colour choices for each book were made in reference to the house sigil depicted on each cover, representing a main colour from their coat of arms. The only discrepancy in this method was the choice to change the 5 th cover (A Dance with Dragons) to a different colour that co-ordinated with the visual appeal of the others, in order to avoid a close repeating of colours on the 3rd and 5th books.
