.01 Corridor Cities Transitway | AECOM Montgomery County, Maryland, Fall 2013 - Present Context Montgomery County, Maryland is the epicenter for biotechnology in the Mid-Atlantic region, coming in third for the largest cluster of corporate technology companies in the United States. The life sciences employ the highest number of residents in the county, with more than 49,000 people working in the field, and is only predicted to grow larger in upcoming years. The Corrider Cities Transitway Bus Rapid Transit System solves the county’s traffic congestion by offering high speed and increased capacity services that will get residents traveling quickly and efficiently. Design Concept Montgomery County strives to be known for their booming bio-technology field, and has already let this influence several build-ings and developments in the area. The CCT Alignment circulates around several locations that already do or will dedicate themselves to the life sciences, so stations drawing from a Helix concept can successfully fit into the fabric of their context while also creating a unifying element that effectively brands the alignment. The malleable form of a helix illustrates a vision of lightness and structural transparency, one that provides effective shelter without rigid confinement.

The Centre is organized into three levels, the school (at the base), the offices (the middle), the gallery/theatre (top most level), and a grand cascading gathering space acts as the glue, connecting the gallery/theatre to the school. The “cascading space acts as an exaggerated threshold between the public (the gallery) and private (the school), this threshold is a place where these events can mix together. Students practicing in the back rooms become observed by visitors, yet visitors using the grand space become subject as well. For the form traditional Islamic thought was studied, like the plans of the school takes after the Madrasa schools. The gallery, the most public area, is placed south east to be closest to Mecca, yet openings in the facade frame out the near by Buddhist sites. Multiple cultures are present in the expression of the Centre.

.03 Cantebury Earthquake Memorial | Competition Christchurch, New Zealand, Summer 2014
This memorial creates a space that pays homage to the lives lost from the Canterbury earthquakes through the utilization of a palate of natural elements and materials. A granite stone water wall retains the earth on the north bank, engraved with the names of those lost during the earthquake. Lining the perimeter of the water wall is the relief of the former city skyline. Wooden seating, that appears to be peeling up from the earth, face the length of the water wall and the river. The same peeling eect is mimicked through the benches across the memorial, creating a flawless transition between the landscape and terrain. Next to the park area are 185 dancing fountains, commemorating the 185 lives lost. A wooden bridge connecting the two banks leads to a picnicking area and amphitheater style seating to the terrain. Through methods of emerging from the earth, the memorial ignites a sense of rebirth and hope for the community.

The mindset and psychology of a Dancer can be depicted through a series of emotions and rythyms. What inspires a Dancer to grow and succeed? The dancer studio fosters the growth of a dancer through the use of a lofted open floor plan, significant natural light, and steeped amphitheater located in the back for performances. Located at Penn Treaty Park, the Artist Community unites a group of artists to learn from each other while living in an enriching environment.

.06 Carved Space| Temple University Philadelphia, PA, Fall 2010
Spaces are catered to serve the human body and how it occupies it. Through the mapping of points of movement during a frame of time, a volume is created that translates fluidity into inhabitable architecture. This exercise illustrates the complexities of how the body demands space and a design to follow this criteria.
