It’s not too early to start thinking about where you want to go to college! There are even scholarships just for middle school students.
Take challenging courses. Map out the high school classes that will set you up for success in your college program.

OLE MISS INTEGRATION • James Meredith was the first African American student to enroll at ole miss in September of 1962.
• He was met with violent protests and riots and
was placed in federal protection until the U.S. Marshals came to Oxford, Mississippi, to see that he was admitted to the university.
• James Meredith graduated in August the next year.

OLE MISS LOVES FOOTBALL
Ole Miss may not have the *best* football team, but Oxford loves to watch the team go through the Walk of Champions before every game. The Grove has been named ”Best Tailgating” for several years in a row.
MASCOT MAYHEM •

In 2002, the University of Mississippi retired “Colonel Reb,” the original mascot of Ole Miss, because of its racist history. In 2008, the university decided to vote on a new mascot. Rebel the Black Bear won! This vote, however, was marred in controversy and met a lot of opposition. Now, students and alumni are petitioning the school to change the mascot once more, in favor of the Landshark.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE CAMPUS TOUR • General information session with the whole group • Smaller groups will tour the campus with different tour guides
• Historical sites will be discussed • Wear tennis shoes – we will spend a lot of time walking!
• Look for Ms. Roland’s brick in the circle!
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE MEDIA CENTER •
The Student Media Center is where the Daily Mississippian newspaper, NewsWatch, and Rebel Radio are produced.

While we are there it is likely that students will be working on these productions—be respectful when you enter the building!

Definitely ask questions! You’ll be interacting with college students and professors.
DO’S AND DON’TS WHILE YOU’RE ON THE TOUR, DO:
• Ask questions • Be respectful anytime you enter a building
• Identify academic and extracurricular programs that sound interesting to you
• Try to picture yourself there!
WHILE YOU’RE ON THE TOUR, DO NOT:
• Be disrespectful to the tour guide or to
the students/staff that we may observe
• Lag behind or get lost • Shout at fellow students or ask inappropriate questions
• Drop trash or handouts on the ground – use the recycling bins across campus!
