There is a song by a country singer, Kenny Chesney, called, “Don’t Blink”, explaining life goes faster than you think. That song holds very true when working for a fast paced trucking company like MVT. Allow me to introduce myself for those of you who may not know me, my name is Allan Dahringer. I oversee and manage the maintenance department. I have been employed by Jimmy Ray and Royal Jones co-owners of MVT for 30 plus years. Over the past years I have washed trucks, worked as a technician, drove trucks and developed a maintenance staff that is undeniably second to none. I have also been married to the absolute best partner in life anyone could ever ask for, Joanne Dahringer, for the past 30 years. Joanne and I have a beautiful and successful daughter who lives in Albuquerque NM, married to her husband CJ Story. These great kids have blessed us with a grandson that will arrive in Feb 2015. Again as the song goes, don’t blink life goes faster than you think...

INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Insider Letter

V O L U M E

From left to right: Jimmy Ray, Royal Jones, Allan Dahringer, Sitting above Grant Dyer. And sitting below the dog named Kaiser. (1984)

As the management staff meets every morning at 9am for an operational exchange of information we stand around the conference table reporting numbers and updating messages. I face a wall with a silkscreen of photos from days past. There is one photo I find myself staring at constantly reminiscing of past times of 4 very young men and a dog named Kaiser. The 4 in the photo are Jimmy Ray, Royal Jones, Grant Dyer and myself. I believe I was 22 years old at the time. At times I get caught off guard when its time to report my numbers.. (Sorry!) The guys in that photo were the entire work force with the exception of 10 or less drivers. Marking that the beginning of what is now a 1300 power unit multiple location OTR trucking company, MVT. These guys were persistent with their company vision with a strong desire to succeed.

We could possibly write a full length novel on events and stories from times past in the development of MVT. Like today, times were not easy. Jimmy and I spent long days/ nights preparing trucks for trips. There was no such thing as 8 hr. days or a 40 hr. weeks. This is trucking, you worked till the job was completed and then at times you found yourself in the seat of that truck you just worked on delivering the load. I clearly remember when Royal bought his first new factory built red w-900 3406b Cat in Albq NM. (truck number was 9) Royal had a trade in truck, I believe a late 70Ford orange cab over with a two stroke V8 Detroit that may have run on 6 cylinders, named the Pumpkin. The only value to this truck were the 8 new Good Year tires on it. The truck deal was taking place in Albq. NM. So we headed north early one morning, Royal driving the Pumpkin and myself following close behind with our back up plan, a 79 ½ ton Chevy pick-up with a tow chain in the bed. Not sure we even made it a hundred miles before we had to use our back up plan. But the Great Pumpkin finally made it to Albq. hours later towed behind a From left to right: Jimmy Ray, Royal Chevy truck.. But it got there! This is just a small exJones, Allan Dahringer (2014) ample of times and tribulations a young determined group of guys overcame to progress. Continue Reading article page 3

Letter From Allan Continued article from page 2: As time went on we acquired great people, people that possessed great work ethics and took ownership in their jobs and duties. Many Fridays and Saturdays Arlin, Shane and myself would put in a full days work at the shop, have our cars prepped for the races, have a long night at the track and then receive a call at 2AM from a driver tied to a load needing assistance. We would end up doing a full service, 4 sets of brakes and a compressor swap on the reefer unit getting the driver up and rolling by 4AM headed to the Bronx. This is a work culture we were and still are accustomed to. We didn’t do these 2AM jobs because some big boss up the chain said we had to, we just did what we did best, getting the driver back out on the road. Many say those were the good ole days and I do agree they were great but keep in mind everyday forward turns into a good ole day with many to come! Make the best of every day. Take a moment to inspire someone weather it be a driver, fellow employee or anyone you come across, you will feel the effect. I have been asked, “Would you do all this over again?”, my answer in the blink of an eye, “You would have to search far and wide to find better people to work for and along with.” In closing a huge thanks to the entire maintenance team that supports MVT. Listed on page 15 are 27 very valued employees with 10 or more years’ service. Hats off to this amazing crew, job well done!

Happy holidays to all! Sincerely,

Congratulations to Hector Mendoza for being awarded the $25,000 for being driver of the year. Hector has been with Mesilla Valley Transportation for 16 years. He has been 2,400,000 miles accident

free ending this year with the top MPG at 10.83. Success isn't given it’s earned. Hector Mendoza is a great example of this. Mesilla Valley Transportation only prides themselves with being the world leader in fuel efficiency. This becomes possible with hard working drivers like Hector. Who consistently pay attention to driving habits and idling time. If you aren't willing to work for it then you probably don’t really want it. For an extra $25,000 I would work hard for it too! Hats off to you Hector for a job well done. And good job to the two runner ups that came close in second and third, Feranando Lopez with a MPG of 10.77 and Roland Montelongo with an ending MPG of 10.62. Awesome job guys! There's no substitute for hard work. It always seems impossible until it’s done. Again, Congratulations Hector! EMPLOYEE

Congratulations are in order! Dedication is the highest form of commitment. Congratulations are in order, here is a shout out to all of hard working MVT Drivers. Driving is not easy, it’s definitely not for anyone! Here at MVT we are very grateful for having such loyal and dedicated drivers. Fun Tips for Staying Fit this Winter By: Emily Roof

1. Eliminate your sleep debt

"On average we sleep six-and-a-half hours a night, much less than the seven to nine hours recommended," says Jessica Alexander, spokesperson at The Sleep Council, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of a good night's sleep for health and wellbeing. But in winter, we naturally sleep more because of the longer nights. "It's perfectly natural to adopt hibernating habits when the weather turns cold," says Jessica. "Use the time to catch up."

2. Drink more milk You are 80% more likely to get a cold in winter, so making sure your immune system is in tip-top condition is important. Milk and dairy products such as cheese, and yoghurt are great sources of protein and vitamins A and B12.They're also an important source of calcium, which helps keep our bones strong. Try to go for semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, rather than full-fat and low-fat yoghurts.

3. Eat more fruit and veggies

When it's cold and dark outside, it can be tempting to fill up on unhealthy comfort food, but it's important to ensure you still have a healthy diet and include five portions of fruit and veg a day. If you find yourself craving a sugary treat, try a juicy clementine or satsuma instead, or sweet dried fruits such as dates or raisins. Winter vegetables such as carrots, parsnips, swede and turnips can be roasted, mashed or made into soup for a comforting winter meal for the whole family. Explore varieties of fruit and veg that yo may not normally eat.

4. Try new activities for the whole family

Don't use the cold winter months as an excuse to stay in and lounge around. Instead, get out with the whole family to try out a new activity – maybe ice skating, or taking a bracing winter walk on the beach or through the park. Regular exercise helps control your weight, boost your immune system, and is a good way to break the tension that can build if the family is constantly cooped u inside the house.

5. Have a hearty breakfast

Winter is the perfect season for porridge. Eating a warm bowlful on a cold morning isn't just a delicious way to start your day, it also helps boost your intake of starchy foods and fiber. These give you energy and help you feel fuller for longer, stopping the temptation to snack mid-morning. Oats also contain lots of vital vitamins and minerals. Make your porridge with semi-skimmed or skimmed milk or water, and don't add sugar or salt. Add a few dried apricots, some raisins, a sliced banana or other fruit for extra flavor.

Letter from the Editor “Dashing through the snow! In a one horse open sleigh.. O’er the fields we go.. Laughing all the way”….. What? It’s totally acceptable to be singing Christmas carols. It’s December, duh!! If I am still singing the same song in January then we’ll have a problem.. So until then “Oh what fun it is to sing...” unless it’s my actual singing you don’t like…. What, I’m no Taylor Swift! But a girl can try, right? “Just Shake it off.. Shake it off” 2014 is coming to an end. Again, where does the time go? This is such a magical time of year. Starting the season off by stuffing our faces with yummy food surrounded by friends and family and then enjoying some hot cocoa on a cold winter night admiring all the Christmas lights!! By far my favorite! Reviewing the year I have come to the conclusion that I am so thankful and blessed to work for such a great company and wonderful people! It’s been a great year! In the last issue I challenged you all to go out and do something you’ve never done before in your home town. I hope you all had the opportunity to do so. If not, it’s never too late. I was fortunate enough to be able to help MVT host the Thanksgiving Parade here in El Paso. The picture to the right is me at the parade. I’ve never seen a parade like this! What an amazing new experience! I hope you all are enjoying the stories and the updates. Again if you have any suggestions that you would like to see please feel free to contact me. Email me at emily.roof@m-v-t.com. “In the end it’s not the years in your life that count but it’s the life in your years.” Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and joyous New Year. Catch you all in 2015!
