Emily Schuler
About Me
My name is Emily Schuler, and I am a Junior in Interior Design at Iowa State University! I am originally from Libertyville, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago. When I am not in the studio, you can usually find me exploring a museum, creating art, or traveling.
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” -Edgar Degas
Philosophy As designers, we have the power to curate how others see and interact with the world. Why not make them see something wonderful? This is my goal as a designer: to use space to enhance the experience for all.

#BeASwan #BeAsOne Rome, Italy
Using the shell of the Fendi Flagship Store in Rome, the goal of this project was to design a flagship store for a newly graduated fashion design student named Lorenzo. His avant garde col lection is centered around the idea of the wearer discovering themselves and their inner beauty.
6
Concept The #BeASwan #BeAsOne collection is a fairytale with a modern message: learn to love the skin you were born into. This theme paired with the dream-like storybook imagery led to the inspiration of an antique bathroom infused with baroque elements.

Process Work The store is divided into intimate spaces and the colors take on darker tones to mirror the beginning, or “ugly duckling phase of this collection. They gradually lighten to pastels from room to room. Through the use of modern materials and antique embellishment, this flagaship store becomes a modern spin on a fairytale story.

Sketching is the most fundamental skill as a designer. My mind thinks in sketches, and my ideas are developed the same way. Sketching through observation keeps the mind sharp and receptive, both of which are important traits to have as a designer.
