by emily traver, editor-in-chief Issue number two - it’s hard to believe that this is only my second time making a tarte*!

I am blown away by how fast things have happened. While we’re certainly still a small deal, going from copy-and-pasting random images and piecing together hasty articles to interviewing real people in the fashion and music industry is an incredible feeling.

Once again, the support shown for tarte* has been invaluable. Our interviewees, writers, and featured photographers were exceedingly accommodating throughout the process. Thanks to everybody - our lovely models, writers, and assistants.

It’s so exciting to see tarte* going somewhere, and we hope that with your support we can continue to grow!

At Fordham he was able to hone his solo, acoustic style by playing at various openmic and college events.

Devine released his first solo album, entitled Circle Gets the Square, in 2002 under the record label Immigrant Sun Records.

Although still relatively unknown, Devine gained some popularity with his 2003 album, Make the Clocks Move. This album’s songs reflect Devine’s political views and a growing introspective style, inspired by recent death of his father to a stroke. These two styles would become a staple in Kevin’s music that followed.

What got you so interested in fashion; has it always been an interest for you?

Fashion is a good way to express yourself. I like to experiment with different colours and garments.

My interest for fashion definitely started at a young age, because when I got my first part-time job (about 14) I had the money to start enlarging my closet. After I finished school I studied fashion for a year, but it really wasn’t for me. I was unhappy with the people and the classes. I decided that studying fine arts would be better for me.

I’ve been modelling for about four years now, working in the fashion industry definitely made me look at fashion in a different way. I don’t dress up when I have a job, I show up in the most comfortable clothes - and usually still in my glasses. I’ll have to wear heels the whole day anyway!

In your closet, what is your one go-to piece?

For comfort (but still chic) I’d say my Nike zebra fur sneakers. I collect tons of Nike sneakers, but these guys are my favourite!

Could you give us some tips on creating a great look on a smaller budget?

Sometimes I like to treat myself with a little designer piece, but usually my outfits consist of vintage stuff, and H&M or American Apparel.

I think leather/good quality shoes are a good investment, but otherwise the seasons and trends change so fast that I would definitely recommend trying to find some good vintage stuff. Especially vintage blazers or high-waisted pants - they’re so easy to find in a vintage shop.

I find that H&M sometimes has some really amazing stuff, great cuts and materials. And if you want to have some designer pieces in your closet eBay is always a good option to get it cheaper.

He experiments with trancey, rave-like feels in Kumon Kumon, and goes for a laid-back style in Rubadub Shakedown. Crowd pleasers like Woo Boost keep his old listeners in check. All in all, this is a great album to get anyone into dubstep territory.

The solo project of Andy Hull (lead singer of Manchester Orchestra) delivers the same emotion, rawness, and catchy folk-style as his last release The Bitter End. Never heard of him? Start off with Cutting Off the Blood to Ten - we promise you’ll be hooked.

You haven’t heard progessive hardcore until you’ve heard all of the above. The short EP (only five songs) will completely change your mind about what’s worth listening to these days. To get the full effect, listen to the entire album through the jump from Departures to Transitions? Mind = Blown. And after seeing them live, I can say that these guys aren’t kidding around.

So this isn’t really a review - it’s a public notice.

Here at tarte*, we love all music. And when two of our favourite genres come together, it’s something worth celebrating. Lucky for us, the brilliant Asking Alexandria has decided to collaborate with some of the greatest dubstep artists to re-release a mixed version of Stand Up and Scream. Keep your fingers and toes crossed, but we have no doubt that this will be a goodie.
