Scratched Surface is an exciting new clothing brand that transforms canvas to T-shirt. The combination of art, photography and fashion features the work of emerging artists and designers around the UK. Our unique, hand printed designs are limited and carefully considered. For those who love art, as much as they love fashion, will love our brand equally. Scratched Surface has lots to offer with creativity and inspiration translated through our photo shoots, website and clothing.

We’ve done our research and a survey from the Higher Education Careers Service Unit shows that around one in 12 graduates were without work six months after leaving university last year. (telegraph.co.uk) So, where there are no jobs, let’s create them! We are a brand that optimises jobs in all areas of the arts industry by creating a platform for artists and designers to present their work using a new form of canvas.

With experience in the fashion industry, the founder of Scratched Surface, similar to the artists, continues to learn and grow with the brand. We hope our customers can also enjoy and grow with the brand!

Scratched Surfaces’ debut collection features four creative individuals ranging from photographers to fine artists.

Sarah Hayes is a Fine Art student at Winchester. Her design for Scratched Surface is based on life and the universe. The print is part of a three print set created using a mouse, fish and crystals inside bell jars.

Briony Oates is a photography student soon to be graduating from Newport. Her piece for Scratched Surface was inspired by the pineal gland, situated in the anatomical centre of the brain. The gland releases chemicals serotonin and melatonin, regulating the bodies hormones and sleep cycle. The gland is unbalanced by lack of sleep, alcohol and drugs, which affects both the brain and body. The visual representation signifies the transition from day to night and the shift of moods from happiness to depression.

Christie Powers is an Illustration student at Newport. Her inspiration and message behind ‘say hi to strangers’ is just that everyone should lighten up, it seems people are scared to interact with one another, even if it’s just a smile. At the end of the day we’re all on this planet together.

Emily Tyson is a Fashion Promotion student at Brighton. Her fascination with the illuminati, the secret society supposedly taking over the world has inspired her triangle designs for Scratched Surface. Other than the illuminati, this simple geometric shape has many meanings including creativity and gender. Being a creative, unisex brand, Emily thought this simple geometric shape was a perfect correspondence to the brand.
