1 Engineering Eminence engineers diligently work to satisfy the needs of individual customers through a custom design, or to assist in the integration of an off-the-shelf Eminence product for their application. Through the use of multiple design and testing technologies along with our CAD systems, mechanical, thermal, and magnetostatic modeling software, computerized audio testing systems, and 3D printer, our engineers produce as many as 2,000 hand-built samples per year.

2 Sales & Customer Service All sales for our custom OEM and Eminence branded products are administrated in our Eminence, Kentucky headquarters. We pride ourselves on our customer service, and have built a reputation within our industry for providing the highest quality products and support. company. Gault passed away on October 4, 2002. He was a husband, father, and grandfather. Gault was also an avid golfer. He is greatly missed by his family, the music industry, and the Eminence community. Our first facility was less than 6,000 sq. ft. and employed around thirty people. In 1972 Eminence Speaker moved to a new location in Shawnee Industrial Park on Mulberry Pike where we remain today. The facility has seen several additions. The first building in this location was just less than 30,000 sq. ft., but now has grown to include nearly 100,000 sq. ft. all under one roof.

3 Management / Administration This area houses Accounting, Production Scheduling, Marketing, Purchasing and Executive Management.

4 Voice Coil Department Eminence has developed the finest voice coils in the industry. We currently produce 1 layer edgewound, 2 layer, 4 layer, dual, and dual-parallel coils. Winding lengths vary from .080” (2 mm) to 1.6” (40.6 mm). Standard impedances range from less than 1 ohm all the way to 70 ohms.

5 High Frequency Department Eminence manufactures HF products for both our branded and OEM product lines. Products include 1”, 1.4”, and 2” throat devices, some incorporating neodymium motor structures, and others with standard ferrite motor structures.

Designed and Assembled in the USA . In 1966 Bob Gault founded what was to become the world’s largest loudspeaker manufacturing company after working as an engineer for Magnavox and CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply). Ironically, Gault started Eminence hoping to build only three 18” speakers per day, based on a commitment from Ampeg’s Everett Hull. Under the leadership of Gault and most recently his son, Rob, the company’s capacity grew to over 10,000 speakers per day, employing nearly 250 people.

12 Paint Department

All products move from Final Assembly to our Testing/Packing Department where they are carefully inspected. After cosmetic amendments are added, they are packaged for shipment throughout the world.

get a custom design. Getting a loudspeaker, amplifier, or finished system built to your exact specifications is easier than it may seem. Much of our success can be attributed to the Engineering teams in our Kentucky loudspeaker factory and St. Louis systems design center. Through the efforts of these talented individuals, Eminence designs and builds over 2,000 loudspeaker prototypes annually, and numerous cabinet and amplifier designs for a wide range of professional audio and musical instrument applications. Our team is ready to guide you through the entire process step by step.

Contact our Sales Department at (502) 845-5622 or via email to Sales@Eminence.com to discuss your needs.

2.

Your request will be documented and forwarded to our Credit Department for approval. If you have not filed a credit application, you will be afforded the opportunity at this phase. Because we make loudspeakers for many companies, we are frequently asked to copy another customer’s product. Such designs are proprietary and we strictly avoid such duplication.

Once approval has been received from our Credit Department, your request will be forwarded to our engineering lab or St. Louis design center for processing. There are no design fees for the products we manufacturer for you! Because the prototype(s) are built to your specifications, it will be your responsibility to thoroughly test them. Each prototype will be shipped with a specification page and an approval form. Once the design is approved, fax or email the approval form back to Eminence along with your purchase order. Most unique loudspeaker samples are typically built and shipped within 2 to 3 weeks.

Eminence has a wide selection of raw materials and off-the-shelf components for quick turn-around on your custom design. And if your project requires sourcing of unique components or specialized tooling, we have a vast network of trusted suppliers who consistently meet our high quality standards.

A Loudspeaker Chassis We offer two basket materials – pressed steel and die cast aluminum. While pressed steel is adequate for most applications, die cast aluminum baskets are superior cosmetically, structurally, and magnetically. Aluminum does not conduct the magnetic field out of the gap thereby making the motor strength higher and the stray magnetic field lower.

The process for obtaining a prototype is quick and simple: 1.

loudspeaker materials

Shortly after receiving the sample, you will be sent a formal quotation, including quantity price breaks and minimum order quantities. Samples are priced as you receive them unless otherwise noted. Any further modifications to the design will require a revised quotation, such as an addition of a logo dust cap to a loudspeaker, or a selection of a different tolex material for a cabinet. When you approve a sample for production, we will issue a permanent spec number to this sample. This number will take the place of the sample number and will be recorded as your unique product ID for all future production.

If you have any questions concerning the sampling process, please call us at (502) 845-5622 or e-mail us and we will gladly guide you through the process.

With our state-of-the-art electrocoat paint system, we can apply a uniform coating of epoxy-acrylic paint over the entire surface of our metal parts, including the magnetic gap, to a controlled thickness of less than 0.001”. The electrocoat paint, unlike the zinc plating process, simply does not corrode and the application process is economical and extremely environmentally friendly.

(for low frequency designs), dual (for summed low frequency and low impedance designs) and dual-parallel coils (for special applications). Winding lengths vary from .080” (2mm) to 1.6” (40.6mm). Standard impedances range from less than 1 ohm all the way to 70 ohms. We also offer beryllium copper ribbon leadout or pure copper ribbon lead-out for demanding applications. We can source coils that are beyond our manufacturing range as your application demands.

B Cone and Surround Materials

E Spiders

The cone is usually the most important contributor to the sound of a particular speaker and our engineers may have more experience with cone responses than anyone else on earth. We currently stock over 300 different cones. Cone and surround materials are available in a wide variety and are ever changing.

Because of the ever increasing power handling demands placed on the speaker industry, spider materials have improved dramatically over the last ten years. Eminence stocks a wide variety of spiders ranging in diameter from 3” (76mm) OD to 8” (203mm) OD. You can choose from a wide range of spider materials such as cotton, poly cotton, and nomex. We offer cup spiders, flat spiders, progressive roll spiders, and a new generation of laminated spiders.

c Magnet Sizes Eminence offers ferrite magnets from 15 oz. to 120 oz. We can also multi-stack magnets for long Xmax applications. If your design requires a low stray magnetic field, we can shield it with bucking magnets and/or shielding pots. Eminence also offers the option of neodymium or alnico magnets.

D Voice Coils Eminence has developed the finest voice coils in the industry. Nearly all Eminence Speaker voice coils incorporate a polyimide film, specially formulated to Eminence Speaker’s specifications. Our proprietary film offers significant advantages over other materials including aluminum, which can conduct excessive heat to the cone apex. Eminence voice coils are highly regarded as structurally and thermally superior. We currently produce 1 layer edgewound (for very high efficiency speakers), 2 layer (for a variety of applications), 4 layer

F Terminals, Gaskets & Dust Caps Currently, we use three basic types of terminals: 1) 0.205”/0.250” spade connectors, 2) gold or silver colored push button terminals with 4mm wire holes, and 3) 5-way nickel plated binding posts. Gaskets are available in several different materials as well as thicknesses. Speakers can have front mounted gaskets, rear mounted gaskets, or both, depending on your mounting configuration. The dust cap’s major function is to keep debris or foreign materials from entering the voice coil gap area. It also contributes to the sound of the speaker and has become a popular place to display product names and logos.
