Polarize Zine Issue #9 The first issue of 2018 is finally here! I’m really pushing to feature as many women as possible in each issue this year. With the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements it’s become even more important to truly highlight the women in the music industry. I don’t think that anyone has grasped how hard the music industry still is for women unless you’ve been apart of it. In this issue we have two gallery’s! One from Walk the Moon’s Press Restart Tour and the other from PVRIS’ North American Tour. I’m really pushing myself to experiment with different colors like I haven’t before. There’s also probably the most black and white photos in this issue that you’ve seen from me in awhile! There’s a certain richness I want when my images become black and white. Which is why I don’t really like them versus color images, but something was telling me to go for it! There’s also a feature of a very talented young lady, Maris. She’s going to do big things, so check her out! Enjoy! -Emily Kovacic

MARIS
From Viral Fame to American Idol to her Debut EP Photo: Provided - Credit to Kaitlynn Hildebrand
Maris is an 18 year old Brooklyn based singer. She entered a popular YouTube series titled Postmodern Jukebox and the rest was history. The founder, Scott Bradlee, heard Maris voice and then brought her to sing a version of “Jolene” in May 2017. The video has earned over 1 million plays! Her next note to internet fame was when she jokingly grabbed a bottle of soy sauce. At the request of her mom she recorded a cover of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon,” in which she used the bottle of sauce as a microphone. The next day the video had grown with over 100K views and even the soy sauce brand asking Maris to write a song for their commercial. Maris was approached by producers from American Idol in late summer for her to audition. On November 20th she was in Los Angeles standing on the ABC stage next to Luke Bryan at the final round of auditions. She auditioned during the telecast of the American Music Awards. Needless to say Maris did not make it, but now she is on the way to releasing her original EP, LOVELUST. This girl is definitely someone to watch! With her soulful retro vibe...this young woman will be unstoppable. Check her out through one of the socials below:

Flint Eastwood’s (Jax Anderson) high energy performance got the whole venue dancing along. She’s intense, but in away that you’ll follow along with whatever she tells you to do. It’s all about having a good time during her set which she made very apparent. She craves a type of energy that the crowd is willing to give her. Then there is the actually performance itself. Passionate as ever with beautiful vocals that accompany her unique style of music. I’d describe it as an electronic pop blend. It wasn’t what I was expecting in any way when she took the stage. Don’t let the looks of this project deceive you. Flint Eastwood is sure to take off. After her run with PVRIS, be sure to check her out on Misterwives tour!
