Today its churches with ornate Iberian façades, massive Dutch forts and assorted examples of British colonial style blend satisfactorily with the city’s development. Come for the beaches and stay for the food, the culture, the wildlife and the tea trails. Colombo is a vibrant cauldron of contemporary Sri Lankan life which remains resolutely forward-thinking.
Make the most of your holiday Explore the exotic city of Colombo on a half-day city tour. Safaris
India
The realm of the tiger Safaris in India are anything but tame. Elephants, rhinoceros, bears and wild dogs roam the lush rainforests while snow leopards make lonely footprints in the Himalayan snow. Of course, the holy grail of any safari is a view of the big cats and in India, this means the elusive tiger. The forests of India with their ancient trees, enchanting chorus of forest birds and herds of gentle chital (spotted deer) offer an unforgettable experience of some of the country’s most prized flora and fauna in their pristine surrounds. India’s vastness and the geographical diversity of its national parks offers plenty of exciting options to choose from, and efficient air travel has made it easy to access many of these parks from the Emirates’ gateway cities. We recommend at least a 3 days/2 nights safari to get the best out of your game-viewing experience and a possible tryst with Indian royalty – the tiger. A typical safari involves early morning and evening game drives in the company of professional guides and rangers in semi-open safari vehicles. Mid-morning snacks are enjoyed in verdant jungle surroundings while dinners are mostly served within the cozy confines of your lodge.
Mahua Kothi Lodge ★★★★★ Situated in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh National Park is best accessed by air from Delhi. It is one of India’s most beautiful national parks and supports one of the highest densities of tigers on the subcontinent, including a large variety of mammals like the leopard, chital, jungle cat and others. The Mahua Kothi Lodge draws its inspiration from one of India’s most beautiful trees, the madhuca indica. Sprawled over 40 acres of land, it offers guest suites built in the vernacular style of central India. The suites are accessed through private courtyards with an open kitchen providing a warm welcome while you watch the food being cooked using traditional methods. 12 suites, restaurant, bar, library and a guest lounge overlooking the gardens.
Vivanta by Taj, Sawai Madhopur Lodge ★★★★ A former royal hunting preserve, Ranthambore National Park lies 139 kilometres south of the city of Jaipur and can be easily accessed from Delhi via Jaipur either by air or surface. The many ruins of bygone eras scattered all over the jungle give it a unique mixed flavour of history and wildlife. The original Sawai Madhopur Lodge was built over 80 years ago and was a hunting stop for the Maharaja of Jaipur. The initial art deco styled lodge still houses the old dining hall, bar and lounge but it is a new spirited style that now makes its presence felt. 36 rooms and suites, restaurant, bar, library and limited hours of room service.
Orange County ★★★★ Nagarhole National Park is one of South India’s best wildlife getaways. Blessed with rich wildlife, attractive jungle and a picturesque lake, it offers fantastic wildlife watching. Besides tigers and leopards, its dense forests are home to elephants, barking deer, wild dogs, bonnet macaques and over 250 species of birds. Luxury Hotels and Palaces

Apart from the palaces, some hotels have been built anew, where luxury as a memorable and personal experience is core to their philosophy. The design and architecture is inspired by the historical style of the region, coupled with breathtaking locations and the best of modern amenities to provide for a truly unforgettable experience. The lyrics of the entire national anthem of Singapore are included as microprint on the 1,000 Singapore dollar banknotes. The Singapore Sling was first served in 1915 at the Long Bar of the Raffles Hotel. The name Singapore is derived from Sanskrit and means Lion City. According to a Malay legend, a Sumatran prince saw a lion and took that as a good omen and decided to build a city there. The Merlion has become Singapore’s iconic symbol, combining the head of a lion and the body of a fish. The fish body represents Singapore’s roots as a fishing village, while the lion represents Singapore’s original name—Singapura or ‘Lion City’.
