PODS Presents

Abigail’s Party BY MIKE LEIGH

8-12 SEPTEMBER 2015 6

Following their most recent triumphs with The Addams Family and the sell-out plays Stepping Out and Habeas Corpus, awardwinning local drama society PODS continue their run of iconic theatrical showpieces with this much loved classic comedy-drama by Mike Leigh. Set in the late 1970s, when browns, beiges and oranges ruled the décor, while Demis Roussos and Donna Summer dominated the airwaves, the monster that is Beverly invites the neighbours round for drinks and nibbles. What happens next is a mixture of high farce and Greek tragedy set in suburbia. Directed by Sandra Samwell and performed by a society at the top of its game, this version of an old favourite is, as José Feliciano sings so memorably at the play’s opening, bound to ‘Light Your Fire’.
