MARK GRIST SHETLAND BOY

'Absolute Dynamite!' Steve Merchant, Radio 6 Live

Date: Wednesday 6 July Time: 7.30pm Venue: Key Theatre Studio Tickets: £5 Previous Poet Laureate of Peterborough and Edinburgh Fringe Slam Champion Mark Grist has been touring nationally for the past year. During this time, he's met loads of people, and then forgotten pretty much all of them. Most people can remember names. Or dates. Or the location of their hotel. Most people can remember where they grew up; or the street they lived in. But Mark can't. Which is odd.

festival plus

Following a 5-Star winning run at the Edinburgh Festival 2008 and sell-out performances in London, Olivier award nominee and RSC actor Gerard Logan now brings his astonishing, internationallyacclaimed performance of Shakespeare's brilliant, brutal narrative poem, giving an account of the terrible crime of rape and its dreadful consequences, to the Key Theatre.

Particularly if all those early things people can remember happened on an island with less than a thousand inhabitants; with seals and puffins and bogs and Vikings and the fastest wind speed ever recorded in the UK. Well, enough is enough. In his new one man show, Mark attempts to teach his memory who's boss whilst rediscovering Britain's most remote island. Come and enjoy his lyrical storytelling...and absurdly big hat.

architects of air levity iii

festival plus

Date: Friday 1 - Monday 4 July Time: 11am - 5pm daily (last admittance 4.45) Venue: Cathedral Square Tickets: £2, pay at the entrance

Enter and be amazed by a unique world of light and colour on Peterborough's Cathedral Square. Architects of Air build and exhibit the luminaria designed by Alan Parkinson, worldwide from Berlin to Dublin, from Singapore to Seattle. Since 1992, these unique structures have welcomed over 1,000,000 visitors. This summer Architects of Air will unveil their brand new structure Levity IIl in Peterborough's Cathedral Square as an event for the Peterborough Festival. The Levity IIl luminarium is a sculpture people enter to be immersed in radiant light and colour. Levity IlI is an intricate exploration of light and form that takes its inspiration from Islamic architecture. It is made up of over 60 triangular domes which create a wandering path similar to the experience of the bazaar. Where the paths meet there are mosque-like domes.

12

The luminosity of light and colour inside Levity IIl is created purely by the daylight shining through the coloured plastic. The materials are made especially for Architects of Air and all the individual pieces have been cut & glued together by hand in Architects of Air's workshop in Nottingham. Important information: •

• •

The luminarium is accessible to wheelchair users and people with mobility difficulties. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Shoes and possessions are left at the owner's risk and the Architects of Air and Vivacity accept no liability for any loss or damage thereto.

GUARDS!GUARDS! MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN Guards! Guards! Date & Time: Tuesday 28 June 7.30pm Mother Courage and her Children Date & Time: Thursday 30 June 7.30pm Venue: Peterborough Regional College Tickets: £5 for each performance If you were enthralled by Peterborough Regional College's performance of Twelfth Night at the Museum or captivated by their production of She Stoops To Conquer at The Great Northern Hotel, then this year's Festival offers an unmissable treat - the performing arts students from PRC return to the College itself with two highly acclaimed productions.

Special offer: book for both shows and pay just £8 for the two. Booking Information: in person from the Cash Office in PRC main reception, open Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm. Or call 01733 762110

This energetic production ran for two sellout shows in January, and now there's another chance to see the amazing dragon live on stage.

Guards! Guards! is Terry Pratchett's fast paced fantasy story about the guards of the Ankh-Morpork. Watch as they battle bravely to save the Disc World's most notorious city from a fire-breathing dragon.

Mother Courage and her Children is one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century, telling one woman's episodic story as she drags her cart across war-torn Europe. This major piece of Epic Theatre is brought vividly to life in a production which demonstrates that war, like love, always finds a way. (Please note: this performance contains very strong language and is unsuitable for under-14s).

THE TAMING OF THE SHrEW

THE ALCHEMIST

BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Date & Time: Tues 28 June-Sat 2 July at 7.30 Venue: Central Park (internal venue if wet) Tickets: £7 (£5 students) from the Destination Centre or on the gate Peterborough Mask Theatre present the eighth of their popular Mask in the Park outdoor productions of Shakespeare's comedies. Seating is provided but you are welcome to bring your own…in fact why not bring along a picnic and make a real evening of it! Mask have always enjoyed a great reception at the Peterborough Festival, so come along if you're up for a fun-filled and energetic evening of comedy in the Park... spiced with danger, deception and desire.

BY BEN JONSON

Date: Tuesday 5 to Thursday 7 July Time: 7.30pm Venue: Central Park Tickets: £7 (£5 students/juniors) The Revellers perform Ben Jonson's classic satire of greed, opportunism and gullibility. The play demonstrates that human weaknesses and foibles are just as relevant in today's world as they were when it was first performed in 1610. The outrageous schemes of the various con-men founder in a comic way as jealousy, vanity and bickering put paid to their dubious endeavors. Central Park provides the perfect back drop to this hilarious play that has stood the test of time.
