FRI 31 MAR, 7.30PM • MAIN HOUSE
In an interrogation room in an unnamed totalitarian dictatorship, Katurian Katurian, a writer, is being interrogated by two detectives. Next door, Katurian’s mentally disabled brother Michal waits. The detectives want to know why Katurian’s stories feature gruesome plots about child murder and torture, and in particular, why they seem to mirror a string of recent child murders in the area. Drawing on inspiration as diverse as Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Kafka, and Antonin Artaud, The Pillowman is a dark, twisty, and utterly unforgettable masterpiece from one of Ireland’s most treasured writers.
This fizzy and frisky, glittering gem of a show remains the best entertainment in town as Chris Dean and The Syd Lawrence Orchestra deliver another full-throttle performance. Offering the bubbly verve and energy of that glorious music with a hearty helping of nostalgia, you can hear the music of the swing era bought back to life. Featuring the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Quincy Jones, Billy May, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many more.
