societies Joining a Society is one of the ‘mustdo’ elements of University life. Whether you are pursuing a long-standing hobby or trying something new, there loads for you to get involved with. As well as doing something you enjoy, Societies are all about friendship and developing your social life with likeminded people.
With over 80 different groups, and new groups setting up all the time, there really is something for everyone at NSU. Check out www.mynsu.co.uk/ studentactivities/societies/ for up to date info and details of meetings and contacts

COURSE REPS For every year of every programme, course reps speak up on behalf of students and meet with their programme leaders to ensure that courses are the best they can be. Course Reps can make a huge difference to every student’s experience at Northumbria, and in doing so they can practice key skills around communication and negotiation.
If there’s something you’d like to change on your course, if you’re at the heart of your course community, or if you’re interested in getting involved and finding out a bit about how the University is run, this could be a great role for you.
Ask your program me leader when reps w ill be recruited for your course, or email su.coursereps@no rthumbria.ac.uk to find out more.

STARs support the Students’ Union advice service, by going along to meetings with students facing academic misconduct allegations or disciplinary proceedings. They provide reassurance and help students to be heard during difficult circumstances, and they use the knowledge they gain through these processes to negotiate and inform the development of the University’s regulations and policies. STARs play a key role in shaping what we offer to students in terms of advice and advocacy, and as a relatively new role their involvement is constantly developing as new opportunities arise.

"OE JG ZPV EPO U CFMJFWF VT BCPVU IPX awesome it is, here’s what previous volunteers have said; “First time I did welcome week was as a team member and met some class people in the process. Last year, I was a team leader, got the call late but it was mint, met so many good people, had a laugh and am still getting stopped around campus by freshers who had me or my team move them in to halls or host events etc. If someone had said several years ago that I would be doing something like that, I would of laughed thinking I was “too cool but would advise anyone to get involved these days. You learn a lot about yourself, interacting with others, gain some experience in many fields and realise that pushing through the hangover pays dividends Doug Hunter, Welcome Team Member 2012 & Welcome Team Leader 2013
