RATIONALE Clutch magazine is targeted towards high c lass adults over the age of 50 who are passionate about the beauty in vintage collectible cars. The overall designs reflects a c lassic and timeless theme and is visually sophisticated through its simplistic layout. Bodoni Book Italic was chosen for “c lutch� as it is visually sleek and elegant. The thick bold downward strokes contrast the light weight cursive-like accents. The issue number design remains consistent throughout the covers, with a simple line divider framing the information. The issue number and nameplate will be displayed in a limited selection of colours — white, grey or black. These colours will be used according to the background image to bring attention to the information, but never take away from the photography.
A mix of Adobe Garamond Pro Regular and italic was chosen for the secondar y type. It will be used in the banner and applied to the front cover in var ying locations according to the image and white space. The mixture of book and italic were used to contrast one another, as well as create a sense of balance between the straight framing lines. Each cover page must maintain its image of appealing to an elite demographic by using high resolution, professional grade photography. The vehic les photographed must reflect a luxurious lifestyle and the composition of the subject matter has to provide enough white space for the name plate. Emmalisa Grella
