MENTOR SPOTLIGHT Ahaspora Changing Mindsets Mentoring Program Q: What inspired you to give back through the Ahaspora mentoring program?
A: “I have been an active member of Ahaspora since 2012 and I sit at the feet of outstanding people and professionals who continue to mentor and guide me. The 2013 Mentorship event at the World Bank was a great opportunity to give back and engage with aspirational students especially as I am a product of phenomenal mentorship programs since my days in high school.” Mentee Kwamena and E. Gamor
Q: What has been your most memorable moment with your mentee?
A: Attending his mentee’s matriculation ceremony at the University of Ghana Legon, “a lot happens in our lives (mine included) and though we hope and wish and pray for the best, nothing beats sharing a personal and professional milestone with your mentee. Seeing them as high school students, graduates, then to matriculated college students is a blessing.” Q: What would you say to aspiring mentors?
A: Be a mentor. My college head of department and long-time mentor once shared with me that there you won't always be a perfect mentor, however, we can always pass it forward and share the little we've learned with someone. “A lot of the students in the country need a lot more than just casual advice, there are financial, aspirational and institutional support needs… Ahaspora introduces the mentorship relationship and it is up to both parties to engage and make the most of it.”
