Examination Board: EDEXCEL GCSE Business Studies 2BS01 OR GCSE Business Studies and Economics 2BE01 Course Description and Organisation All students will study two Business Studies units. Unit 1 – Introduction to Small Business (25%) This unit considers: spotting a business opportunity, showing enterprise, putting a business idea into practice, making the start-up effective and understanding the economic context. Assessment is by examination. Unit 2 – Investigating Small Business (25%) This is a controlled assessment which involves an investigation of a business. Following unit 1 and unit 2 students will either complete a third Business Studies unit (Unit 3) and obtain a full GCSE in Business Studies, or study an Economics unit (Unit 5) and obtain a full GCSE in Business Studies and Economics. Unit 3 – Building a Business (50%) An externally assessed unit which considers: marketing, meeting customer needs, effective financial management, effective people management and the wider world affecting business. Unit 5 - Introduction to Economic Understanding (50%) An externally assessed unit which covers the following topic areas: how can I start to think like an economist? risk or certainty, big or small, is growth good? is the world fair? Career Opportunities Everyone will work in a business of some description in later life and so Business Studies gives a useful introduction to the world of work, as well as providing a solid academic foundation for study in the Sixth Form. Exam Board Link
