Ks3 About The Modern Foreign Languages department seeks to stimulate students’ curiosity and interest in language learning which lasts a lifetime. It aims to enable all students across the ability range to realise their potential and develop competency in one or more foreign languages. Our students are taught the importance of giving their personal best in a learning environment which is both challenging and very rewarding. In addition to acquiring language for the purposes of practical communication, pupils are also taught the importance of grammatical knowledge to allow them to manipulate language and communicate with an increasing degree of accuracy and sophistication. Wider qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative and independence are also fostered through the study of foreign languages. In addition, pupils are given an invaluable insight into the people of the countries whose languages are being studied, thereby developing positive attitudes to foreign cultures and societies. Assessment Arrangements In French, over the course of a term, pupils sit a major assessment in speaking, writing, reading and listening. Understanding of grammar and vocabulary is also assessed on a regular basis. Students track their progress in their Progress Records and set personal targets for their ongoing development and understanding. The annual examination assesses students’ confidence in the skills outlined below:
