Ks4 Examination Board: AQA Syllabus Number: Religious Studies Specification A Religious Beliefs and Lifestyles 4050 Course Description and Organisation The GCSE in Religious Studies is made up of 2 units of study: Unit 2 Christianity: Ethics (405002) Students consider how Christianity affects the way people behave and how they live. 1. The Right to Life 2. The Use of Medical Technology 3. Personal Responsibility 4. Social Responsibility 5. Global Concerns 6. Conflict Unit 5 St Mark’s Gospel (405005) Students look at Mark's Gospel and what it says about who Jesus was, what he taught and what relevance this has for today. 1. Background to Mark’s Gospel 2. Jesus’ Ministry 3. Jesus’ Suffering, Death and Resurrection 4. The Person of Jesus 5. Jesus’ Relationships with Others 6. Discipleship

Assessment Arrangements The GCSE is assessed through 2 exams at the end of the course: Unit 2 Christianity: Ethics and Unit 5 St Mark’s Gospel. Each unit accounts for 50% of the total marks.

Project/ Coursework Details and Deadlines There is no coursework in GCSE Religious Studies.

Career Opportunities Religious Studies will develop a variety of skills. You will analyse, interpret and evaluate information as well as learn to think clearly and logically. Such skills are useful in all careers especially education, journalism, medicine and law. It will also be of value to specific religious callings.
