Ks4 Examination Board: AQA Syllabus Number: 9145 Course Description and Organisation Three units are studied: Unit 1 International Relations 1945-200 This is an overview unit that looks at key events of the Cold War 1945-2000. The key themes for this unit are: Unit 2 20th Century depth Studies This unit is made of three in-depth studies from twentieth century History Weimar Germany 1919-1929 Hitler’s Germany 1929-1945 The war in Vietnam 1954-1975 Unit 3 Historical Enquiry This is controlled assessment completed in lesson time focused on Britain in the First and Second World Wars. The focus of the controlled assessment will be evaluating a variety of historical sources related to the two World Wars. Assessment Arrangements Unit 1 : International Relations 37.5 % Assessed by an external examination lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. The exam paper consists of 3 compulsory topics with questions that test knowledge, source evaluation and extended writing. Unit 2 : 20th Century Depth Studies 37.5% Assessed by an external examination lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. The exam paper consists of 3 compulsory topics with questions that test knowledge, source evaluation and extended writing. Unit 3 : Historical Enquiry 25% Assessed by students completing two questions on sources based around Britain in the First and Second World Wars. The questions are set by AQA by marked internally with AQA moderating the department marks in May of Year 11. Project/Coursework Details and Deadlines Students will be expected to submit two pieces of work covering topics in the First World and Second World Wars. These will cover the skill of The Use of Historical Sources. The questions will be set by AQA and completed in school. These two pieces will be submitted during Year 10.
