Part 1 After I had some semblance of a final logo, I went on to brand applications. I went through many rounds in order to create my brand identity. I started with the business cards first but as I kept working I soon learned that the ads would be the most important aspect in creating the Coach’s identity. All my other applications would branch off and relate to the ads in some way. Ads for retail companies are how they get their brand identity out into the world. I needed to show the product and logo in a cohesive frame. Creating this identity was just as hard as creating the logo. I learned that I could not just place a logo on a product and say that I was done. It needed to be manipulated in ways and added with other images in order for a distinctive brand identity to appear. In the end I choose to have a brand identity that shows off Coach’s node to its historic heritage in New York but at the same time shows that they have fashion credibility through the use of hip, grungy images in the ads.

As I look back on this branding process there are things that I would like to change and others I would not. I am still struggling as to whether or not my logo perfectly matches my brand’s identity. But I believe that I was able to make a quality logo and brand identity. I learned alot about how to create quality mockups and how to use photoshop in an effective way. I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I liked how I was able to mix business with design. Designers when creating a brand identity can not just start from scratch. They need to know the history and positioning of the company in order to create a quality logo and brand identiy for the company. All designers need to have their designs grounded in thought and research. I think that this class really made me actually ground my design decisions in research.
