We are moved by the outpouring of support for our Infinite Horizon campaign and have experienced such joy in being part of this transformational fundraising effort. We see the impact of every gift on our beloved Emma community.

b Our students are thriving with growth and anticipating the opening of the Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts at the heart of the campus. Save the date to join us for a spectacular grand opening on April 25–26, 2025!

b Gifts to the campaign have afforded access to an Emma Willard education to more students from around the country and the world, and philanthropy has facilitated much-needed preservation of our buildings.

b Our community is being strengthened through expanded student wellness programs and counselors. The Starzinger Writing Center is overflowing with writing opportunities. And our athletic fields are now adorned with new scoreboards.

Leadership Giving— The 1814 Association

Named for the school’s founding year, The 1814 Association recognizes philanthropic leadership across every constituency—alums, parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, students, and friends of the school. Members provided 90 percent of all money raised through The Emma Fund in 2023–2024, in addition to funding specific projects and areas of need such as financial aid and student opportunities, campus renewal, faculty support, academic technology, and student programming. In the third year of our Infinite Horizon campaign, many members of The 1814 Association made inspiring leadership gifts to support priorities in the campaign in addition to their annual giving. These members are recognized with an IH notation following their names.

Reunion ’24 Giving Highlights

REUNION GIVING IMPACTS STUDENTS

The Emma Fund—and therefore every aspect of the Emma Willard experience— benefited greatly from individual reunion class giving efforts.

The 4s and 9s gathered to reconnect with each other and to share in learning about today’s Emma Willard School and her amazing students.

The Class of 1974 celebrated their 50th reunion with gifts to The Emma Fund and an additional push to fund sustainability initiatives in the Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts, including high-efficiency LED lights, native plants, rainwater management efforts, and modern mechanical, electrical, and ventilations systems. Their total reunion gift of $1.3 million included several significant planned gifts to secure the future excellence of the Emma Willard experience.

The 60th Reunion Class of 1964 also reached new heights in giving with the inclusion of magnificent planned gifts.

The Class of 1969 really impressed with an amazing class giving participation

rate of 58%, tops among the 4s and 9s this year. Classmates also contributed to the Class of 1969 Endowed Scholarship, established five years ago, which now totals more than $100,000 and provides a steady stream of income to the school’s financial aid budget each year.

The “Power of ’79 Sisterhood” brought forth a class reunion gift totaling $79,000+ as a generous anonymous classmate offered a special challenge for new and increased giving as Reunion approached. Eight new donors made gifts to The Emma Fund, a sign of continuing engagement through the reunion efforts 45 years on.

The Class of 2004 came together to purchase seating in the Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts in memory of a classmate who passed away just months before reunion.

Emma Willard School celebrates a long tradition of parents supporting our community, both philanthropically and by sharing their expertise and goodwill. Their commitment helps provide a transformational experience for all students.

This past year, parents engaged with student affinity groups and with Practicum and Signature projects, as expert speakers, and as members of the Board of Trustees. They cheered for Jester athletes, musicians, artists, and student groups, and gathered with each other through campus events and an active book group. And they provided $272,068 in support through The Parents Fund to strengthen every aspect of the Emma experience for our students. We are grateful for our continuing partnership with Parents Fund Co-chairs Fred and Laura Galt P’18 ’25 and all of our generous parents!

Semper Fidelis Always Faithful

Two very special class events took place at Emma Willard this year. In October, the Class of 1961 celebrated their 80th birthdays with back-to-school days full of exploring Mount Ida, experiencing today’s classrooms, and toasting their collective history. Attendees also met Head of School Jenny Rao and other school leaders, and with their Class of 1961 Scholar. And they enjoyed cake and champagne along the way.

That ’61 celebration set the stage for members of the Class of 1960, who came to campus for their own specially designed “Spring Fling” in May. Classmates heard from student leaders, the Revels costumers, and enjoyed a hard hat tour of the Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts, and a Gilded Age tour of downtown Troy guided by an EWS History instructor. Student musicians serenaded the class as well.

“To learn what the girls are like in class and out was a great gift,” notes Kate Deane Schubart ’60. “These young minds from all over the world give hope.” Margery “Kala” Fleigh ’60 remarks, “You filled our schedule with such interesting and relevant information. All our interactions gave us a lovely sense of being a valued part of the Emma Willard community.”

I’m so thankful this school has given me the opportunity to grow and develop my interests as I become a wellrounded citizen of the world. There is such an incredible community of people here that is always ready to support you and help you on your journey.

My favorite class is Modernism with Dr. Dettmar. This class has pushed me so much and I feel very prepared for studying literature in college. I am grateful for the confidence I have developed here among my friends and within the women’s environment, with teachers who believe in me and are interested in what I have to say.

I love the performing arts and music has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve been singing since I could talk, and I consider it less a hobby and more who I am. I have made lots of incredible memories already. This school will always hold a special place in my heart.

My dream is to go into environmental engineering. I am especially passionate about pollutants in drinking water and the disparities in access to clean water among communities. I am grateful for all that Emma has given me. I have learned so much about myself while I have been here.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the great variety of experiences I’ve had because of attending this school. I’ve met people from so many different countries which makes for so many different experiences and talents and interests. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this community and to be able to call myself an Emma girl.

Emma has been transformative for me in so many ways. My friends and I just completed the 200-mile New England Ragnar relay race. I’ve explored my academic passions and completed a two-year Signature project in computational chemistry. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who made this story of my life possible.
