STRONG OPTIONS

Emporia’s fitness opportunities make getting and staying in shape fun and easy.

We get it – life can be busy, challenging, and overwhelming. That’s why it’s so important to prioritize your health and wellbeing. In Emporia, you’ll find a wide range of options, both traditional and unconventional, to help you and your family stay active, healthy, and full of life. Pair that with outdoor activities like cycling and disc golf, and it won’t be long before you’re feeling great.

Let's explore the strong options out there for you.

The Emporia Recreation Center provides healthy activities for all generations in a safe, friendly community to help achieve better wellness outcomes. Established in 1953, ERC is the only such entity in the state that is jointly operated by the city and the local school district.

The Rec Center has a pool for lap swimming and fitness classes, and a viewing room where many birthday parties are held. The full-size basketball court is used for pickleball, indoor soccer, volleyball, and more, in addition to youth and adult basketball. Fifteen laps on the walking track above the gym equals one mile. Also upstairs, a fitness studio offers yoga and fitness classes. The only racquetball court in Lyon County is here.

The fitness room features equipment similar to what’s found in a hospital cardiac rehab center. Many who complete medical rehab programs stop exercising because of no access to specialized equipment–but not in Emporia! Another popular attraction is the state-of-the-art indoor golf room and golf simulator. The community room is home to weekly table tennis and hosts numerous local organization meetings plus anniversary and birthday parties and showers.
