BIA PRESIDENT'S
WELCOME
Welcome to the Sydney International Boat Show, Australia’s largest celebration of boating. This year’s event is the 53rd edition and has great significance following the extraordinary disruptions the global pandemic caused over the past two years.
For many, the 2022 show is a welcome opportunity to once again, see first-hand the latest in boats, boating equipment and accessories, and to immerse themselves in the boating lifestyle. The show is also a wonderful time to catch up with family and friends who share a passion for all things boating.
Boating has boomed since 2020, proving to be the standout choice of leisure activity for people across Australia. During a time when we had to stay close to home, thousands discovered what many of us have always known, that boating offers an escape like no other.
One where you have the freedom to choose the destination, when to go, and who to spend time with. Socialising in popular anchorages or experiencing the beauty of quiet seclusion, far away from the crowds. Being in and around water has long been recognised as being good for the mind and the body.
People of all ages, genders and abilities can participate in boating, with options available in all sorts of craft suitable for leisure and sport. Best of all, there's a boat for all budgets, ranging from small paddle and sail craft, to runabouts, fishing boats, tow-sports, right through to yachts and cruisers of all sizes. Alternatively, if you’re time-poor and want a ‘step-on, step-off’ option, you can simply join in a boat share program, or even just hire one for the day.
Providing this opportunity for people to attend and experience a diverse and interesting range of marine products in this stunning location would not be possible without our valued industry members. Their commitment helps to keep boating at the forefront and promote this fabulous lifestyle; I sincerely thank them for their continued support. I would also like to make special mention of our event partner in safety, Transport for NSW, for its role in our ongoing efforts to promote safe, responsible, and enjoyable boating. The BIA wants everyone to have a fantastic time on the water, to return home safely to their families, and to share their great experiences. Our partnership in educating waterways users helps to deliver this.
I wish you all a wonderful time at this world-class event and look forward to seeing you out on the water soon.
