Italian Week The First Italian Week at Eastern Mediterranean University concluded on Friday, October 25th after five intensive days, which saw different EMU Faculties and Departments and four Italian Universities gathering under the auspices of the Italian Embassy. The week opened on Tuesday 22 October with a lectio magistralis held by His excellence the Italian Ambassador in Cyprus, Dr. Guido Cerboni who, in his speech, effectively summarized the importance and historical origins of the role Italy has been playing in the creation and development of the European Union. The program was diverse and included academic events (like the lecture of Prof. Raffaella Simonelli of the Polytechnic University of Milan delivered at the Faculty of Architecture), cultural gatherings (like the exhibition of Carlo Carnevali held at the Faculty of Visual Arts) and two movie projections. However, the high point of the week was, beyond any doubt, the seminar on the exchange opportunities with Italian universities, which boasted the participation of the representatives of the Polytechnic University of Milan (Prof. Raffaella Simonelli), University of Venice (Prof. Michela Agazzi and Prof. Martina Frank), Academy of Arts of Perugia (Prof. Carlo Carnevali) and University of Genoa (Prof. Michele Marsonet). The seminar stirred the interest of almost 100 post and undergraduate students some of whom, we hope, will spend time as visiting students in Italy. After several weeks of hard work and determination, especially on the part of the staff of the EMU International Office, the Italian Week was a great success, which bodes well both for the future collaborations between EMU and the Italian academic institutions and for the next edition to be held in 2014. 3 INTERNATIONAL OFFICE NEWSLETTER
