The International Office family wish you a wonderful experience ....

DANIELLE PEPPER

KATHERINE GALEZOWSKI

My name is Danielle and I am an exchange student at EMU. I am from the United States and I study in North Dakota State University. My best friend from home and I planned to meet in London over the mid term break so we could see the Harry Potter movie together since we've known each other since high school and we have always gone to the opening HP movies and we had been planning this rendezvous all summer for London. While there, we went to see Buckingham Palace, After getting lost we got there in time for Prince Williams' and Kate's engagement announcement. We also went to see the town of Windsor and the Castle there. After flying back to North Cyprus, I flew to Egypt with a couple of friends that same day, making me extremely exhausted. We spent a few days in Cairo to see the Pyramids, Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum and to go on a Nile cruise for Thanksgiving Day dinner.North Cyprus is a central hub for flying out to many other countries so when a person has some free time or a long weekend you can take a quick trip to a variety of places, like Egypt to see the pyramids, or Istanbul or Athens. Just make sure not to travel alone as this is not always a safe venture, travel with others and have fun! This is just one of the benefits of being an exchange student at EMU.

I am a senior at Central Connecticut State University where I am majoring in Geographic Information Systems. I will be here at EMU until the end of Fall 2010. I have visited most parts of North Cyprus with the trips the International Office organized for the exchange and international students. I recently came back from Egypt where we did a lot of site seeing and exploring of the land and culture. It was an amazing, educational and entertaining experience.I look forward to traveling to many more great places!

BEGAIYM ORMUSHEVA I appreciate the support and help of my home university (International Ataturk Alatoo University) and Eastern Mediterranean University for providing me with such a great opportunity to develop myself. With the “exchange student program I acquired some life experience. Living abroad made me more independent and self-confident. It was a good chance to improve my communication skills while living in place which is full of different cultures. Fortunately, the education system in my home university and Eastern Mediterranean University is almost the same and this helped me to adapt quickly to the study process. Finally, I got lots of unforgettable impressions by seeing all the amusing nature of North Cyprus. Discovering new places helps to discover and find yourself in this big world, so I strongly advise everyone to try it!

EMU EXCHANGE STUDENTS Our students have been on exchange and some are still on exchange which is an adventure for them all. EMU students who were in Ukraine and Germany shared their experiences with us. Ali Cihan Dikici VSHQW KLV 6SULQJ 6HPHVWHU DW 7ULHU $SSOLHG 8QLYHUVLW\ LQ *HUPDQ\ DQG 6DOLK <DOÕQFD MRLQHG WKH 6XPPHU Program of Ukrainian Academy of Banking.

ALI CIHAN DIKICI My name is Ali Cihan Dikici, and I’m from Turkey. I went to Germany for one semester to study Principles of Sustainable Business in Umwelt (Environmental in German) in Birkenfeld. This campus was just a small part of Trier University of Applied Sciences. Firstly, I would like to give you some information and details about the campus. As you will understand from the name of the campus, it is totally environmentally friendly. They have developed really impressive sustainable technologies at the campus, such as producing all the electricity needed for the campus by using solar panels and geothermal energy. Also, they sell this energy to the other companies nearby which are producing biogases. Therefore, the entire atmosphere is extremely educational. You can learn really amazing stuff everyday in your classes. When you finish your exchange at Trier, I guarantee that you will be well equipped and informed about the topics of the program. Secondly, studying abroad is also fun. You will meet a lot of people who are from all around the world. For example, I met German, Chinese, American, South Korean, Colombian, French people and more. I am proud of myself for learning so much about other people and cultures. In particular, Germany has a really wonderful culture itself. All my German friends, Professors, Assistants, and my coordinator wanted to do everything to help me. Actually, I was positively surprised with the staff and students at the Umwelt Campus who went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Another fun part of studying abroad is that you can travel in your free time, either in Germany or other countries in Europe. To sum up, I enjoyed every minute of my studies in Germany. I think every student who wants to improve him/herself should go abroad for at least one semester. If I had the chance to select again, I would choose Germany for sure.

SALIH YALINCA

At the beginning when I arrived in the Ukraine there was a teacher waiting for me at airport from the Ukrainian Academy of Banking, whose name was Konstantin. He took me and we went to the city of Sumi together. It took four hours from the airport to get to Sumi. When we arrived in Sumi, I met my friend Yaroslav. He was waiting for me at the bus stop at night around three o’clock and he brought me to a hotel to stay in. Then every morning he brought me from the hotel to school and lunch. I went to the Ukraine alone but I didn’t remain alone because Yaroslav, Kathya and Anna, my friends, were with me all the time. They showed me Sumi and also Kiev. Sumi, where I stayed, is good for nature and Kiev is a perfect city that is developing and improving its standard of living. Generally, I spent my time in the city centre of Sumi because there was a pedestrian street which is the main street in city. There were cafés and restaurants there and I went to each of them. I tried Ukrainian food and it was different than Turkish cooking but it was nice. In the Ukraine there is famous food such as sushi and Chinese food. Ukrainian people like these restaurants and I went to one of these restaurants in Sumi but it wasn’t tasty for me. Outside of the city there were beautiful forests and one weekend we went to a horse farm to ride horses and have a picnic. Another day we went to find mushrooms. These were very good days far away from stress. During the week I went to the Academy and it had excellent classes for studying. My classmates were good people and my teachers helped me with everything and always made sure I understood and if not they explained again. It was a very good education system with seminars like group discussions which I liked. The Ukraine is a good country that I would advise my friends to visit.

CURRENTLY ON EXCHANGE There are more than fifteen students on exchange at the moment. They are spending their Fall Semester in America or Canada. Sara is one of them. She is from Iran and she is already applying to continue her graduate studies in America. We as International Office are helping her to apply so when she comes back next semester and graduates in June, she will have a high chance of going back to America for her masters degree. We look forward to having you back Sara!

SARA AFSHAR The Competitive nature of my undergraduate studies, and my passion for learning about other cultures encouraged me to find an institution to acquire deeper knowledge of architecture and other cultures in the world. So I came to NDSU as an exchange student, which has students from more than 80 countries around the world and from all 50 states of the United States, now it’s been about three and half months that I’m living here in Fargo, North Dakota. I found many different friends with completely different cultures, even North Dakota’s cold weather and the heavy snow was an amazing and new experience for me, I went to some other cities around here and plan to go to the other states for the rest of the time I have. I really enjoyed my life here and tried to make the most of the American education system which is really unique and different. This semester is going to finish soon and I’m coming back to Cyprus with lots of experiences and the best memories I ever had.

EXCHANGE STUDENT BECAME AN EMU STUDENT We had seven exchange students from Ukrainian Academy of Banking in the summer of 2010. Alexandr Polisciuc was one of them. along with his summer course for exchange, the department also offered them workshops with other exchange partner university students such as students from Zhejiang Gongshang University. We are sure that he will graduate with a degree that will open the doors for an international career for him in the future. All the best Alex.

The Exchange Seminar then took place to inform the students who were seriously interested in fulfilling the requirements to become and exchange student.
