This year the English language program included a variety of
different courses and activities. Intensive English courses were taught by native speaker teachers from England and the USA. English Clubs meanwhile allowed students to choose from areas of personal interest to develop their reading, writing and speaking skills. There was also an IELTS preparation

Sea Turtle Protection & Monitoring Project on the Famagusta & Iskele Coastline The sea turtles of the Mediterranean are frequent visitors to our hot, sandy beaches. These sweet and charming creatures have been visiting us for centuries. Our summer participants had the chance to observe them throughout their hatching period. The EMU Underwater Research Center and Imaging Center (EMU URIC) and Society of Nature & Culture conduct a joint project on the Famagusta and Iskele coastlines to protect and monitor the loggerhead and green turtles. The Project activities are conducted by volunteer university students from Cyprus and abroad who patrol the coastline zone everyday and night to determine the location
of nests and cage them against dogs, foxes & other negative impacts until the hatchlings emerge. In addition, statistical data is recorded and other scientific measures are taken by the volunteers. Summer participants in the International Summer School visited these coastlines at nights to experience the energy of nature and explore the Mediterranean mysteries. Our dedicated assistants and members of EMU URIC accompanied them on all of their trips.
