EXTRA TIME

Purpose

Extratime provide tailored personal support programmes and activities for pupils and students to bring about the change that will enable them to attend school regularly, be motivated, be engaged and achieve their full academic potential. We provide solutions, using one-to-one interventions and group work as a vehicle to enhance personal, social and educational development for young people. Our aim is to: • Develop programmes that support young people to achieve their personal, social and academic potential to enable them to meet the challenges of a competitive and dynamic adult world. • Provide tailor-made interventions and programmes that meet the personal, social, emotional and educational needs of a diverse group of young people in schools and other youth service providers. • Provide effective, practical, engaging and motivational solutions that meet the needs of young people and empower them to develop strategies that will enable them find the solutions to their educational, social and emotional needs. • Develop vibrant partnerships that work alongside and on behalf of organisations to provide a range of programmes to support existing youth and school provision. • Provide young people with an opportunity to maximise their potential through identifying and overcoming barriers to achievement and progression. • Equip young people with transferable skills and experiences in order to support their educational, social and career and employability needs.

Why Extratime?

Bringing in external expertise can provide you with just the support you need and can add value and complement your work. Our expertise and specialism as an external provider allows us to target our support on those young people who need it most. Whether working one-to one to increase motivation, improve behaviour or support their transition or by working with groups to improve approaches to study or their performance, our interventions are solution based and have a high impact, results based outcomes.

How We Work

Based upon over 25 years of experience and knowledge of working within education and young peoples’ services, we have an acute understanding of the pressures, demands and motivations of school pupils and young people in general. We also recognise that each young person is an individual with specific motivations, pressures and needs and our wide experience and track record of supporting a diverse range of young people gives us the ‘know-how’ to provide successful support programmes for them. The main objective of our provision is to provide a safe learning environment where all young people are able to express themselves openly and honestly and in an environment which supports cultural, personal, physical and emotional diversity. A key feature of our work is to develop opportunities for learning that addresses barriers to social, educational and personal development and provides strategies and solutions for each individual or group.

Who Are We

Owner/Director, Emy Onuora has almost 30 years of experience of working with children and young people in order to improve education and personal performance. He is a qualified Life Coach, Careers Adviser, Youth Worker, Foster Carer and Lecturer and Researcher.

SUPPORT SERVICES FOR SCHOOLS AND YOUNG PEOPLE

About Our Programmes

All programmes are flexible in design to ensure they meet target group, organisational and logistical requirements. We are able to discuss your specific requirements in more detail as required. Our provision is targeted at individual young people or single gender or mixed groups, as required. For group work we provide 1 - 6 day programmes that can be delivered on one or consecutive days or on a weekly basis. We also design and deliver longer term provision for young people where appropriate. Our specialised one-to-one work can be delivered depending on the specific needs of the young person involved, but typically would involve 6 sessions to be delivered as required. We also specialise in providing intensive face-to-face interventions with individual young people in order to bring about transformational change. These long term programmes are usually delivered in 6 week or 6 session blocks after which a review is undertaken before we agree to continue. In this way, organisations do not need to commit to the long term intervention of a young person without the opportunity to review progress at periodic intervals to assess the impact of the programme on the young person themselves. We also develop tailor made training solutions for organisations to enable programmes to be delivered within the organisation itself. We provide training, materials and resources and methods to assess quality and impact, and ongoing and periodic support for the programme. We typically deliver all our programmes within the young persons’ organisation but we are happy to adopt a flexible approach depending on the specific programme or intervention required. Because we tailor programmes for each young person or group to enable their specific needs to be met, we tailor our work to individual circumstances. Please contact us to discuss your needs in more detail. Our approach to working with young people individually or in groups however, would typically involve 4 stages. STAGE

Our Values

We believe in developing open, honest, trustworthy, compassionate and professional relationships with children and young people and to value their ideas, and values as a critical step in their empowerment. Experience and research has taught us that these principles are necessary to enable us to undertake our work with young people successfully and to enable them to take responsibility and achieve the successful outcomes they need. We have a comprehensive Code of Conduct, which is available upon request.

What Our Programmes Achieve

All our programmes are geared towards providing the right kind of support that will enhance young people’s chances of fulfilling their academic, social and personal potential. Whether it’s to ensure that young people are able to identify goals and ambitions and set targets, are motivated and attending regularly and punctually, or providing support that enables pupils to deal with the pressures of sitting GCSE’s and A levels, our goal is to provide support for pupils that gives them the best chance of success.

Quality Assurance

As part of Extratime’s commitment to the provision of a professional service that meets the needs of young people’s educational and personal development needs, each programme is thoroughly evaluated and includes feedback and information from young people and key personnel within organisations themselves. We provide a report upon completion of the programme that includes the overall aims and objectives, how they have been met, other unforeseen outcomes and the elements of the programme that have most contributed to making a difference or bringing about change. Our provision is independently assessed by external verifiers to ensure high quality provision. A good indicator of an effective youth work training programme is the retention of the young people involved. It is our responsibility to engage all of our participants and deliver courses that best suit their learning styles and needs. Feedback will be constantly sought through discussions, evaluation forms and regular review meetings. We also encourage the continual professional and personal development of all our staff. All programmes are designed for groups of up to 12 people to encourages inclusion and participation. The age range of participants can be flexible, although we would recommend no more than a two year age gap between participants.

Primary School Programmes

We also provide a specific Primary School programme, which meets the needs of both primary schools and primary school pupils. All Primary School programmes can be easily modified from the Secondary School list to support pupils in KS1 and 2. Our programmes are geared to specifically engage and support primary pupils, so for example we may employ more visual and sensory aids and we also develop resources and materials that are age appropriate in order to best support pupils from Reception to Year 6.
