Letter From the Editor This issue is very close to me. Everything in it is a reflection of myself as well as my amazing staff. A huge thanks to them, especially Kara Gonchar and Taylor Becnel. Thanks for sticking with me, this has been such a fun new adventure. We learned a lot these past couple of months, or at least I did. I’m sure we all learned the fine line between business relationships and friendship. Personally, I’ve also learned that fashion really is a world with no limits; yet I had to set so many boundaries in terms of what message we sent out, and what image the magazine should portray. I’ve come to find that this industry can make you feel the need to conform to society’s rules and clichés. As you’ve probably discovered, we can’t control the rest of the industry; we can only control how we react. Fashion can bring up your spirits or breakdown your ideals. It’s up to you to choose how it affects you. Choose wisely. Seeing as to all aspects of this industry can influence the way you live your life. All the Best,

Morena GonzalesGonzales-Yap Morena Gonzales-Yap P.S. Make sure you check our blog! blog And stay tuned for our purely editorial Summer Issue! REVAMPED Are we the only ones who’ve noticed the Vampire rage? If you have been to movie in last month, you are familiar with the shrill, non-ending screams for a one and a half minute trailer. If you have opened a magazine in the last month, the pages are covered in one word that has dropped on the American public like an atomic bomb. Vampires. It all started about a year ago when the hype about Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight was coming to theaters, starring a somewhat unknown (at the time) Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Even though the movie only opened at about $70.5 million in its opening weekend, the aftermath was, well, like being bitten by a vicious and merciless vampire. At the time, you could walk into any bookstore and see a complete spread of the Twilight Saga, including boxed books sets, posters, and even a locket to match the one owned by Edward Cullen’s displeased sister, Rosalie (played by Nikki Reed). Twilight magnets covered the front of teens’ lockers, a bumper stickers covered cars stating “Warning: I Drive Like A Cullen.” The book series has four books in the saga; Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, where Edward eventually turns the heroine Bella into a vampire, something she wants through the whole book series. The Southern Vampire Mysteries, (informally known as The Sookie Stackhouse Novels or True Blood) was first published in 2001, four years before the Twilight Saga hit shelves. Written by Charlaine Harris, it features a twenty-something motley crew that consists of vampires, shapeshifters, maenads, werewolves and other supernatural beings. The TV show, True Blood, came out on September 7, 2008 on HBO. True Blood is “loosely” based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries, and has the same characters. The show is critically acclaimed and has won a Golden Globe. The show, starring Academy Award wining Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, has just been renewed for a third season and has already started filming. Recently, they have released the CW show The Vampire Diaries, cast with some more beautiful unknowns and will most definitely have a cult following, like most CW shows (see Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill). Mix that with the enormous fan base of the undead, and you’ve got yourself a classic in the making. The show has brought the CW over 4.9 million in just its series premier. From books to TV to the movies, from lockers to cars to spiral notebooks, it's easy to say that the undead aren't dying off anytime soon. –e.m

MENDING DESTRUCTION Gorgeous Girl Gorgeous Clothes, Keiko Lynn has captivated us with her Revamped vintage clothing line. (seen on: Postlapsaria.com)

The 24-Year old s online clothing boutique, Postlapsaria, features twirling pastel skirts, colorful ruffled shirts, and sparkling sequined headbands. Not bad for a young woman who was taught howto sewby her ex-boyfriend. Six years ago, the attractive brunette was a musical theater major in college, struggling to make ends meet. To save money she started revamping clothes for herself and liked the results so much, she made some for sale. "The sense of accomplishment, when you complete a garment, is thrilling," Keiko says. After moving from her hometown in Florida to NewYork City, she made the life-changing decision to put her entire career into fashion; starting her website while just a teenager in 2003. Her young age gave her a lot of leeway, because although she may not have known all the ropes of the business, she was given a lot of recognition for trying. There were others, however, who weren't so

keen to give Keiko the proper credit. "The thing is, I am selftaught, so not everyone takes me seriously," she said. "That's okay, because I don't quite take myself very seriously, either. Fashion should be fun, and there is a place for all sorts of backgrounds, in this niche." "It's such a nice feeling to have an idea in your head and be able to translate it into something tangible. Like most of her customers, Keiko's own closet is comprised of quirky finds ranging from

the early 1900s to the most moder n design ers. "I keep a mixtur e of vintag e, storebough t and hand made, " she said. "I have a little bit of everything in my closet." As her success continues to grow, Keiko's designs have gotten more creative and more inspirational. When she's feeling reserved, she keeps in mind style icon Iris Apfel, who was known for her eccentric, but not overthe-top unabashed sense of style; she is also inspired by the character Chuck, from the now-cancelled show, Pushing Daisies. For more information about Keiko Lynn, visit her blog and check out Postlapsaria!

Park. Neutral. Drive. Though dark romance is a significant theme for Fall 2010, it's hard to quite understand the stigma around pairing dark neutrals. Piling on the black, brown, grey, and navy hues in warmer months tends to look a little ghoulish. But December is right around the corner, giving you all the liberty to wear your favorite dark colors together. However, the line between looking winter-nally chic and looking like something that has been decomposing in mud is a very fine one indeed. First of all, be very aware of your volumes. Black harem pants and an oversized sweater might be great pieces separately, but when worn together, can make you look like a Hefty garbage bag. For a look that is perfectly lined, pair some billowy trousers with a fitted tank. Top off your skinny jeans with a peasant blouse. Also, it’s worth mentioning that there is

definitely a fine line between oversized and just too big. and this becomes an even finer line when you’re dealing with dark colors. A huge knitted sweater that might be cute and flattering in pale pink, but is actually dark brown, will just make you look like a pile of something icky. Since we’re heading into chillier months, you’ll definitely want to be keeping warm and cozy in your dark colors, but there’s no reason to look bulky! Overloading on deep neutrals and heavy layers will generally result in unflattering and uncomfortable outfits. Instead, look for thin fabrics that drape smoothly. For inspiration, try a dark gray whisperthin long-sleeved cotton shirt under a light grey slouchy tee under a soft black cardigan. This will give you the opportunity to show off several different colors and silhouettes while still keeping warm.

The idea of using contrasting fabrics will keep your look flexible. Even if your color palette is mainly dark, you can still have shape with your clothes if draped properly. A brown silk top will lend the perfect dose of shine to navy linen shorts, and soft dark grey leggings will tone down a little black sequined dress. If your fabrics are too matchy-matchy, the outfit becomes overkill, which is a fashion no-no. Ladies and gents, accessories are your friends! Seriously, this is a point that cannot be stressed enough. Pair your cozy charcoal dress with a pretty necklace of big taupe beads. Cinch your pale brown sweater dress with a red patent leather belt. Add some glitter to any dark outfit with a tangle of gold chain necklaces or a gemstonefestooned headband. When you’re working with a muted color palette, don't forget to stand out. -E.M

A Tongue-in-Chic Peek When it comes to independence, fashion, freshness, individuality, and natural beauty, Elizabeth Victoria of the amazing Chic Heroin.com blog inhabits this all.

The Fashion Blog frenzy started when aspiring fashionistas from all over the world wanted an outlet to showcase their style and express their individuality to people outside of their inside world. Elizabeth was one who jumped on the blog bandwagon while everyone watched her blog take off. It never came back down. Her blog was one that became well known quickly, and is now one of the most followed fashion blogs on the web today. “I never expected to meet such awesome people.” She said, “I started the blog because I read other fashion blogs, and it seemed like a great way to get inspired and keep track of your style.” However, do not think it takes true effort to look like her, “I usually put my looks together on the spot,” she adds, “Most times, my favorite outfits are the ones I throw on in a hurry after I roll out of bed.” This definitely explains the amazing combinations of androgynous yet chic pieces that give her a unique style.

trousers from her!” she makes sure she doesn’t forget someone else very important, “My Dad is my best friend in the whole world. Ever since I was very little he was my shopping partner. He used to pick out my mother's clothes, and nowhe helps me with mine.” Now, if you are an avid reader of this Chic Heroin, then you would notice that many blog titles are lyrics to songs, “I listen to music and dance around when I get dressed, it sets the mood and vibe of the outfit I put on.”

“When I was a toddler, I only let my parents dress me in dresses, never pants or shorts.”

Most young fashion lovers develop their love for fashion over time, but Elizabeth says it was different for her, “When I was a toddler, I only let my parents dress me in dresses never pants or shorts. I was sure of my style at a young age,” she tells us, “But my love for fashion was sparked when I did summer school in London and Paris at 16. I met a kindred spirit in a girl named Lo and the two of us went on ridiculous shopping sprees all over Europe. The more I travel, the more my style evolves.” Inspiration is something that everyone needs, not only for fashion, but for life experiences as well. Elizabeth says that a lot of her inspiration comes from her mother. “My Mum is definitely an inspiration to me… She was the master of sleek, tailored looks, and I seem to have inherited my love for blazers and tailored

As much of a risk taker as we thought she was, she says, “I actually radically changed my hair this past year.” She says, “I would love to try a straight edged bob, but I know I would regret cutting my hair instantly.” Unfortunately, our time is up and the interview is coming to a close and she leaves us with some advice, “Wear what you love,” talking to everyone who draws inspiration from her, “Nothing looks worse than when you're uncomfortable in your own clothes.” –E.M
