Process Note Shelby Morrow Professor Isaacs

Prior to this class, my paper writing process was not particularly extensive. Aside from the fact that most of my life was comprised of five paragraph essays, I pretty much just wrote the paper once and that was that. I was fixed on the idea of introduction, three body paragraphs, and conclusion. This idea has shifted greatly in this class. Not only did I write more than one draft, but I also made somewhat of an outline. In preparation of writing this paper I made a list of all the points I wanted to hit as well as the type of sources I wanted to research. Between drafts I tried to identify more supporting details. I also needed to work extensively on citations. That was also something new this paper; previously I would have used APA, but this time around I was able to dabble with MLA. After writing my paper, I learned that I am an informative writer. My writing does not have much “pizzazz” and my papers tend to be strictly informational. I think this derives from my scientific mind- we are conditioned to never make a claim that cannot be validated by a credible source. This arises something that I can work on as a writer. Next go around I should try to channel my creative side and put some “pizzazz” in my paper to spice it up. Although being an informative writer is not always a bad thing, I feel like this class is the perfect opportunity to find my voice as a writer- which I will challenge myself with for the remainder of this course.
